Official 2012 Wine and Dine ½ Marathon Thread

Hoping you'll be able to make the Wine & Dine 1/2. My greatest fear right now is an injury so close to the race.

Mine too! I've been icing my calf since my 12 miles on Sunday.. .It does feel a little better today (at least I can walk on it now without wanting to cry). I've got my compression stocking on..Tomorrow starts heat and maybe massage.

I may not get in another long run between now and the race, due to this injury so I hope I can still keep pace during the race. I was pacing at about 14:30min/mile..

Another one with that fear checking in. I had to skip my long run this past weekend because my left knee hurt to even walk around. I have no idea what the issue was...I have never had a knee injury, I don't strain myself or anything like that. So I have been keeping off my feet as much as possible and it doesn't hurt anymore. I have a run this afternoon and we will see how that goes. I have been a bit worried since this knee mishap, especially since my pace is anywhere between 14-15 minutes.

Bittersweet....

Just popping in to say that I hope everyone's training is going well! It's one month until my departure date for the trip. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to run. I'm waiting to have an MRI on my back sometime this week. I had an xray last week that came back as a muscle spasm and a narrowing between the discs in my upper thoracic. So I'm not sure yet what exactly that will mean for my training and/or doing the W&D. I'm relieved that they finally know what's causing my headaches and hopefully can help them stop. On the other hand, I'm so not happy about getting this far in training and possibly having to stop and drop out.

Anyhow - I've been away from the boards for a few days because I was a bit depressed about the whole thing. But I wanted to say good luck and hopefully lend a little encouragement for anyone who's been struggling with motivation lately. Go run one for me! Run because you can! And if that doesn't work, Run for Chocolate!!! :thumbsup2

So sorry to hear this. pixiedust: that everything is okay and you are cleared to run. Hang in there!

pixiedust: to everyone else needing a bit extra. We're in the homestretch!

And speaking of being close to the race has there been any talk about a time/location for the WISH meet for this race? :teeth:

pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: To everyone with pains and fears of pain. Positive thinking! ::yes::

Ironically, I went through ALL kinds of knee, calf, hip, groin and foot pain in June-July-Aug and now of course, my legs are feeling fine but my head hurts SO much.

You can ALL DO IT!!! :cheer2:

You will be fine. 12 miles is honestly plenty. Were you able to do your long runs at 14:30/mi? Even if that was only your pace for your shorter runs, you've put in a good amount of trianing. Keep up your base with short and medium runs, do one more long run (8-10 miles, if possible) not this weekend but next weekend. Then start your taper till the race. You can do this!

I'm glad/sorry I'm not the only one wincing after Sunday's long run. My hamstring was very angry - starting less than halfway through my 13-mile run. I managed to finish without too much pain at least. But what a difference 48 hours makes! I rested, iced, did some easy walking on my lunch break, and today it feels decent. I'll do some foam rolling then icing tonight.

Thanks! I'm sorry to hear about your headaches! Any chance you'll get cleared to walk the race?

Princessbride6205 - No clue yet... i just called and I've still not been approved for the MRI and they told me to not run until those results are in. What makes it worse is that I run to keep up my quad and knee strength since coming back from a major knee injury situation two years ago. If I skip more than 3 or 4 days between runs (and PT exercises), my knee starts to feel sore. It's odd, but the truth. I might still run a little this week, maybe tomorrow just a mile. I actually feel so much better when I run and when I stand.

i'm trying to be optimistic and think that I will at least be able to complete some of it, even if i don't finish, or even if I can't run now, that they will tell me I can train for the princess or something later.

BTW - love your screenname - is it for the movie? Or just a disney twist on a wedding?

Thanks for the encouragement!! Yes, my long runs averaged 14:30/mile, sometimes a bit faster, but for the most part that is my pace. And I'm happy with that!! :)

I know most of running is mental so it is good to hear I should be OK without doing my 14 miler in 2 weeks! I'll take 8-10! :cheer2::cheer2:

Good luck to everyone in the home stretch as well!! sending lots of pixie dustpixiedust:pixiedust: to all for a safe and pain-free final 30 days!

Figment1990 - I hope you get the answers you've needed for what's been going on. Maybe everything will still work out for you to do Wine and Dine.

Thanks to those that responded about apps and iphone issues.

4 weeks to go! 12 miles this weekend.

The race is exactly one month from today, everyone!! SO excited!! I arrive in 29 days!

Does anyone know if corral placements have been released yet? It seems like the TOT placements were available a month out before the race - haven't seen anything for W&D.

So excited. This was my very first half marathon last year, and I can't wait to run it again!

The last time I ran Wine & Dine, the waivers were released 10 days before race day.

I just checked the website, and it still says that the final race instructions will be available about a month before the race. Well, it's a month...so hopefully we will see everything soon. I don't know about the half itself, but I did the Halloween 5K last year for the W&D Weekend and our waivers were up about a month before.

Guess we are all anxious to download our waivers and see our bib numbers. Can't wait....training is going well and we are ready to have some fun at WDW!

Oh dear...new issue then... what happens if we are traveling and not able to print them out? Do they have extras you can use at the expo?

Disney has computers and printers available for those who can't/didn't print them out.
