Official 2012 Wine and Dine ½ Marathon Thread

Well, I went to the doctor - and weirdly, it's not a blood blister, but a bad bruise deep under the surface of the skin on my toe. Because it's in a spot where I walk on it daily, it could take awhile to heal - not what I wanted to hear at ALL!

Gah!

Oh, and you'd think I would have known to test out the socks at least a week or so before the race. I just got excited to find purple socks to match my shirt. Stupid. ;)

I'm going patriotic. Check out http://www.team-sparkle.com/. They're all about looking glam while running and they have a ton of ideas for Disney characters.:jumping1:

I actually posted the costume I am doing which is their DIY Belle. I am getting the golden yellow skirt from them. My costume is near identical to what they pictured, minus the yellow shoes. :thumbsup2

Out of curiosity... is anyone doing a costume?

Not a costume but I will be sporting the WISH green and The Black Pearl sparkleskirt. pirate:

Yes, My daughter and I are dressing up like Minnie Mouse with pink dotted sparkle tech skirts and white tanks with a Minnie head. Please say hi if you see us! We will probably be in Corral A or B. Looking forward to the race....the countdown is on!

Lisah - love love love your sparkle skirt! http://www.wdwinfo.com/images/smilies/pirate.gif

And Qltrgrl2 - love your blog! I've been reading it for a few weeks now.

My plan is to order the red sparkle tech Minnie Mouse skirt this weekend. I've promised my daughters that I would wear the skirt and my matching ears (headband) although I'm not sure I can last with the headband on through the whole race. I tested it out on the treadmill for 5k and it was ok but a little warm.

I finally bought some honey stingers! I bought two packs of the fruit smoothie fruit chews, and one honey waffle. I am going to have the waffle before my run tomorrow and use the fruit chews during my run. We will see how this goes! :)

I used honey Stingers this morning for the first time. So very good. Hope you enjoy!

Would love to know your thoughts on them. How's the waffle and did they give you an energy boost? I've heard to use them with water and not to mix with gatorade/powerade.

Hey, I have a couple of questions for everybody else:

1. Galloway Peeps - Are you using the App on race day or another timer? I've been using the app all along during training. I'm worried about technical glitches. One time I lost all audio, but the timer still worked on the screen. Worried about battery life too. Otherwise, it's been fantastic and I've loved it.
2. Has anybody used the Galloway 1/2 App yet on a race day? If so, how did you like it?
3. How many runners are projected for the W&D 1/2?

As this race is now only about a month away, I am trying to figure out what exactly my race dine dining should look like.

We are eating at Via Napoli on Friday night, and then heading to the Expo first thing Saturday morning.

What are some recommendations on what we should have for breakfast, lunch, and even a light dinner on race day? With this being a night race, I know things are going to be different, but I want to make sure I do not fill myself up too much on Saturday.

We're staying at the Beach Club Resort, so I know there are various food options around the boardwalk area.

Good call on staying at the Beach Club. At the Tower of Terror race I was exhausted when leaving Hollywood Studios. It will be nice to be able to walk right to the hotel at the end of the after party. (I'm staying at BoardWalk for the Wine & Dine.)

I had breakfast on race morning at the Cape May Cafe in Beach Club - it was a good way to fill up to fuel me through the day. I definitely recommend it for race morning!

At Boardwalk too! Cape May is great choice, we're doing Boma for breakfast. I just took my regular schedule and bumped it up 12 hrs. Will start light carbing Fri morning then eat a good sized (but not stuff myself) breakfast Saturday.

Glad to hear the Cape May recommended - I've got breakfast reservations there too. I thought I'd bring a banana & honey stinger waffle & maybe some crackers/cheese to snack on before the start.

Not sure what to do food-wise for the rest of the day though. Hope some people have some recommendations about a light supper. What kind of food do you consider a "light supper"? I'm at the Caribbean Beach Club so I thought I would check out the food court in advance. Boardwalk area resorts certainly have more options though.

Slight topic switch here. How does baggage check work for this race? I've never bothered with it for the Disneyland 1/2, but I think I may need to deal with it for the Wine & Dine 1/2 since I may want to change for the afterparty.

Sleepless Knight, we have always used bag check for the Disney Half and have found that it runs smoothly. You will check it at the start, they place your bag on buses, and you retrieve it at the end. If it works as it has in the past, you will use your bag from the pick up packet as the checked bag. We have even found that the lines move swiftly.

With regard to pre-run dining, we have always had dinner at Cape May on the evening before the Disney Half. There is a good mix of protein and carb, with enough variety to keep everyone happy.

I think that our food plan for this event will be a fairly good size dinner the night before. We will probably eat lightly the day of, breakfast and a light and late lunch (maybe a turkey sandwich and fruit type of thing). We will have a car, so we might even go off property for the lunch, although, I have found that the food courts at the resorts often have a pretty good turkey sandwich.

I will have my usual half of an almond butter / jelly sandwich about 1 hour ( no less than 45 minutes) before the race. I almost always eat half of a banana as well. I will probably have these last items just before entering the corral. I always stop taking in fluids about that time as well.

As far as race day meals, we have a late breakfast reservation for Tusker House on Saturday. We plan to bring our pre-race comfort foods with us.

The bag that you get your race shirt and safety pins and whatnot doubles as your check bag.

When you get your bib, you will also be given a sticker with the first letter of your last name and your bib number. This sticker is to be affixed to the large clear plastic bag prior to dropping it off at bag check before the race. This is how they can sort the bags and verify you are the correct person to pick up the bag at the end of the race.

The first Wine & Dine ½ bag check was a nightmare. Last year's went extremely smoothly, which is more often than not the case. I anticipate easy going with bag check.

This is what I am planning on checking next month:
-Baby wipes (great tip from the WISH boards I have used many times over)
-Sponge (if warm/hot during the day)
-Undergarments
-Comfy shorts
-Loose shirt
-Car keys

Because I am leary of stuff falling out, I will put my things in a small bag/pouch and then that inside the check bag.

What are y'all planning on checking in your bag?
