Yesterday I ran 7.1 miles, my farthest distance yet! :cool1: Half way there to 13.1! I started running 5 months ago and can't believe how far I've come! Bring on the half marathon!!!

Just think - by 7.1 you are already through the MK and on your way back to Epcot! :cool1::thumbsup2

Is anyone else totally in love with their compression socks? I bought a pair of Zoots when I got my new shoes, and I can't get enough of them!
I'd had trouble with shin splints and calf cramps in the past, but these socks really seem to do the trick.

I'm thinking I might want some arm warmers for the half in February - does anyone know if they sell anything like that for the race specifically? When I was in Chicago a month ago, Fleet Feet had Chicago Marathon arm warmers that looked cool, and I wondered if Disney have something like that at the expo.

:scared1: Could youse some encouragement! I'm scheduled to run a 10k in Huntersville, NC tomorrow (Charlotte suburb) for my corral timing. It's a two hour trip for me and the weather is calling for 38 degrees and 90% chance of rain at the start! Not to mention they have posted on their website that anyone failing to complete the 10k in 1:15 will not have an official time! (insert cuss words here!) I called organizers and they said they would still honor my time, regardless of where I finish. I was shooting for 1:20--but in clear conditions in about 60 degrees!!
Why would they post something so hurtful?!! LOL

I hate getting my feet wet so running in the rain will be a nightmare for me.

On another note--I wanna send my DH some good vibes as he boards his plane to DC to participate in his first marathon, the MCM!!! Semper Fi baby! I salute you! (Hes 9 yrs in the USMC).

Wow - good luck with the weather and your 10K! Here's hoping you get the 10% good weather, at least long enough to do the 10K. Hopefully your feet will at least be dry long enough to get through the experience and you'll have an honored time! :cheer2:

Good luck to your DH too! That's a long, long distance. :goodvibes

I have NEVER heard of that short of a window! Wow - I wonder why they have such a tight time-frame. Well, good luck! Look at it this way - if you have to get the run done in the rain, you will already have been through it and know you can handle it! And it might make you run faster!:rotfl:

I'm a little nervous myself - I have a half tomorrow and since my 3 mi run Wednesday my leg has been bothering me. The words "STRESS FRACTURE" keep blinking in my head, but I am hoping it's just my shins getting a little touchy. After this race, I am starting over again at the beginning of the Galloway plan, so that should be enough of a break. The weather is supposed to be clear but cold - 40 pretty much through the race, which could be good, I suppose! One thing kinda freaks me out - no headphones allowed! I'm hoping that boredom will not lead to fatigue! I have to drive about 40 min. to get there, so am glad for a 7:45am start time! Send out good thoughts! I'm inspired by Heather and will try to take pics during to post on my blog as a race report!

Good luck to all racers and runners covering new distances this weekend!!!

First, Thanks to your DH for all he is doing for our freedom. And hope his race goes well.
Next, I live n Huntersville. It doesn't say on the website, but I suppose the time limit has to do with the course. I would hope that the roads will be closed (a reason for the time limit) for runners as that is not a place you would find me running. Yes, it will be cold and may be raining...they have called for rain this afternoon and we have only seen a few sprinkles.
Lastly, have you already paid for this event? If not I wouldn't do it.

I was in Huntersville for the Warrior Dash over the summer. It is a cute little town and not too hilly (is that a word?). My first 10K was horrible with tons of hills and I finished in 1:18 (in Raleigh):bride:. You have got this! It will be a piece of cake!

I've never run a race where all the runners follow the no headphones rules. I'm the person who is too scared to bring them because I'm a super rule follower, but usually regret it later.

Good luck! You get out there and run your best race....if you are miserable, hey maybe it will make you faster. ;-)

Have a great race Amy.....take the headphones, every race says no headphones, even the Peachtree...which I am a rule breaker on that one...generally I am a rule follower. Even the princess says no headphones.

I hit 6 miles today! First time ever!

I strayed a little bit from the training schedule for the Princess. Last week I was in WDW so only got one run in before I left. I have a 10k on the 12th so wanted to be able to hit my peak this week and taper next week. I planned for the 6 today (to get some reconfirmation for myself that I could do the distance!) but I am not sure what to do next week (the week before the race).

What do you guys do? The Princess plan calls for 2 miles...but I want to be in the best groove possible for the 10k!

Thanks for any help :)

I'll have to take a good look at the route so I can think of that when I'm running.

Tomorrow I have a 5K and it's going to be cold and rainy here tomorrow. There's even talk of snow! :scared1: Snow in October in NJ is just plain NUTZ!

I just found this thread, I will be running/walking the Princess half in Feb :yay:. I am so excited, it will be my first half marathon! I did the 5K in Disney last year, the energy was amazing. I have run more then 14 - 5K/8K's since then with a 10K 2 weeks, and none have had the same energy and Disney does. I will be doing the half alone, but I have more then 15 family and friends doing the 5K with me the day before!!!!:banana:

We will be staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, maybe we could arrange a quick meet and greet then, with luck i will find a running/walking partner!!

10k run is done! PBR at 1:14:16 at the finish, so official should be a tad quicker as I started in the back. Thanks all for the good vibes! You warded off the rain! :-) 40 degrees is very chilly!
Good luck to all who are running this weekend! Amy hope you are running sans stroller!!

Woo-woo! 1st non-Dis half is on the books!! 2:22-ish. (I accidentally paused my app for 4 minutes, so I'll have to wait until official results are posted to know the exact!) Wow - that was somethin'! REALLY cold at start, but not unbearable. Good run, but on a biking / running trail so kinda skinny at the start for all those people - a little hard to dodge around, even though they did have us line up by pace groups which probably helped a lot. I didn't take the headphones (Heather, I am also a rule-follower!) and I DID regret it. But, I made it through and there will be a MOST interesting race report on the blog, hopefully by tomorrow. There were some pieces of work out there!!!:rotfl2: But all the eavesdropping helped distract me!

So glad it's done and, no, I cannot ever see myself doing a full marathon! However, it did hit me somewhere along mile 7 that this very weekend last year, I was doing my first 5K - and now I've run my 2nd half-marathon. Go, me!
