I'm new to DIS and to running Disney. Wondering if anyone is staying at Windsor Hills? Any thoughts on staying off site? We are doing a girls weekend (well okay 5 nights we are from Canada!)

Any thoughts are welcome :)
princess:

Also, from Ontario. Are you planning on any pre races? I am worry enough about the run, so we are staying at SSR, our home DVC resort.

Got some new shoes today....yay! I have been in the Asics 2150's which and decided to get a 2160 which will soon be discontinued. Hey it was on sale and I had a 25% off coupon $59 can't beat that....but the only weird thing. They felt tight....even the 1/2 size bigger than my normal size and not much toe room, so I went up a full size. Hoping that is not a mistake, but I felt like my toes were bunch in the 2160's. I ran around the store for a while....big box store not running store and they felt fine. Hoping they work. I will try them out tomorrow...

1st official training run for the Galloway "Finish Upright" Program. Who else is on this one?

Ready to get started. Is it sad I got shoes with yellow since I am considering dressing like Belle for the race.

Changing to run/walk intervals really helped. 2 miles is 30 minutes for me, and that was my limit of straight running. I now love my Galloway intervals (2:1 on monday 1:1 on wed and friday).

I totally agree about the intervals. I do 4/1 and I have paced myself with the run /walk and running straight (2 to 3 miles) and for me the walk breaks were totally worth the 15 to 20 seconds a mile difference in the pace. I have been using that combo for about 5 to 6 months and my body is so use to it it is very comfortable for me.

:rotfl: About the yellow shoes for Belle. I have briefly thought about my shoes not matching, but then I get over it. :thumbsup2

Yay for new shoes!! I really want to get some but it will probably be another week or two before that happens. I plan to switch it up so I want to go get fitted and an analysis again.

i ran my "practice" marathon yesterday! the St. Louis Rock n Roll 1/2 marathon....it was so much fun! i even ended up with a faster time than I was going for......i finished in 2:57:49. I'd only gone the 13.1 mile distance once before, and it took me well over 3 hours, so i was thrilled with my time!

next big race is the princess half......i just need to stay in shape 'till then! :goodvibes

Congrats :goodvibes Great job!

Can someone post the link to where runDisney calculates your half-marathon finish time from a 10K time (that you would submit)?

We're looking to improve our corral placement by submitting a time, and I want to know what we would need to run to improve above the 2:45 start time.

For those Boston-area folks, we are looking at the Lexington 10K Sun Nov 6 or the Lowell 10K on Thurs Nov 24, if you have any thoughts or would be interested in joining us!

TIA!

Great job! I ran RNR St. Louis as well, and I can tell you that Disney will be a piece of cake compared to that course! I'm not sure if the marathon and 1/2 courses had the same hilly ending, but the hills were killer in the 2nd half of the marathon. I'm running Goofy in January, so this was a glorified training run, but I have one other smallish local race before then to keep me motivated to run. I'd scope out a few smaller races locally to keep yourself motivated to train, and keep improving on your time before Disney!

Heather- Is the Goofy the half on one day and the full the next, or 39.3 all at once?

Not Heather, but the Goofy is the half on Saturday, followed by the full on Sunday. (If you do the 5k on Friday, it is unofficially known as the Dopey.

Yep, Goofy is the 1/2 Saturday followed the by the full Sunday. I guess I'm officially training for Dopey since the 3 caballeros 5k theme themed suckered me into signing up for that as well, but after training for a full marathon a 5k seems like a walk in the park (pun intended.;)) After running Princess this year I decided that the race was so much fun that I wouldn't mind going another 26.2 miles the next day. :goodvibes

Thanks so much for the advice. I figuered it would give me better time if I started the walk/run in the beginning but I'm just hoping to finish the princess, lol ;) I would be extremely happy if I finished it under 3 hours! I don't necessarily run for time but I'm running for the challenge for my body for my 30th birthday but wanting to enjoy the stress free run at the same time. Does any of that make sense? lol

Totally makes sense. You could always try a workout where you do run/walk the entire time and just see how you like it. Be sure and let us know how it goes!! :goodvibes

I don't know if this has been discussed at all but i just can't seem to get over the hump of running 2 miles. I start to get tired and bored running in my neighborhood and I was wondering if anyone had any tips for how you keep yourself motivated during the longer runs. I was supposed to just do my 4 4miler from last week as i had a bust weekend but I wold love advice on getting motivated to run further as really that is pretty essential seeing as we will be running 13.1 miles in 125 days. :cheer2:

The only way I ran 5 miles the first time was to run 2.5 miles away from my car - the only way home was to run back - I was a little grumpy and alot tired -I think I walked the last mile but I made it. I had to. The great thing was my next long run was 4 miles - I was dreading it but it seemed so easy was able to walk/run the entire way. The distance I am currently worried about is 7 miles but that is weeks away so I will just stick to the plan.

Also, a little worried if I have to increase my mileage on the treadmill - I think I would just quit.

Cami,

I am not sure about how long you need to train for a full marathon, but I can tell you what happened recently to my sister for the 1/2 marathon at Disneyland. She had a severe stress fracture in her foot Memorial Day weekend and was sidelined from running the rest of the summer. She trained only swimming and biking 4-5 times per week. She was going to "walk" the race and decided on the day to "jog". She never walked a step and finished in 2:33 and is 61 years young. So....depending on your expectations, you can accomplish the race, but perhaps not the time you would like. By the way, her Princess time was 1:54, first in her age group! :yay:
Happy Running!
Pam

That's actually a really good idea...it would likely work out a lot better if I went somewhere outside my neighborhood and had to get away from my car on November 5th for my five miles...

After my crappy 30 minute run earlier in the week, I had a fantastic "long" run on the weekend. It was supposed to be 4 miles, but by the time I'd cooled down it was 4.5 and I felt so strong I knew I could have easily done 5.

I downloaded Jeff Galloway's 10K training app on my iphone and I figured I'd use that for the next couple of months to ramp up to getting ready for longer distances and the half in February.

Downside is the ship is always rocking a lot on the sail back to Boston, so my conditioning runs are going to be interesting. Looking forward to repositioning to Miami and the Caribbean next week - fewer sea days = much easier to find running times/days where we're not at sea!

Hello ladies

An odd question perhaps?

Has anyone tried the running skirts from Team Sparkle?

Has anyone tried the running skirts from SparkleSkirts?

Do you have a preference one over the other?

Ive read that the skirts from Team Sparkle are see through? Are the SparkleSkirts the same way?

Hi all! Need some advice about running headphones. The ones that come with my ipod/iphone just pop out of my ears. Any recommendations for a good pair?

I have a Sony pair I got at Target for $10. It sits in your ear and has a piece that goes around behind your ear. I must have small ears because the ear buds that come witht the iPod don't fit in my ear. Before these I had were the kind that have rubber and fit in your ear cannal, but add a little sweat and they popped right out. Love the new ones I got.

This is the one I use to predict, I don't really like the answers so far, :) http://www.jeffgalloway.com/resources/gallracepredict.html

:rotfl: Me either. I am hoping for 2:30-ish and that is saying 2:42, which would still be a PR, but not as much as an improvement as I would like it to be.

I have some that are similar but the part that went over my ear had this sliding part so I could adjust them tighter. I think Target clearanced them out though :(
