Ran an easy 5 today here in snowtober. Was going to head outside, but decided it was too risky with the icy roads plus all the down wires and tree branches. so happy/lucky to even have power - it sounds like most of my town does not!

Week 1 of training....check it off the list! First time I think since January when I hurt my foot I have gotten my scheduled 3 runs in a week. AND I rode my bike one day extra. Now to work on getting in my strength and core....and um, keeping up with the running. Week 2, I am ready for you! I am def out of shape, but hey, that is why we train. One run at a time!

Oh and I have been juicing - bought a juicer and I do 2 meals a day of fruit and veggie juice and happy to say, down 9 lbs! I am hoping to lose some more so I have less to carry around, but feeling good!

I love reading about everyones runs! I'm feeling motivated to get a run in tonight now. I took the week off to recover from my marathon last weekend, but I think it's time to get back at it.

Now if anyone can post something motivational to get me to stop eating all the Halloween candy I bought to hand out tomorrow, I would greatly appreciate that as well...

I decided to brave the Snowtober weather and go to my 10K race - my first 10K ever. Official time - 1:05.24:cool1:. I am so proud of myself. The last 2 weeks I have been doing my long runs on a very hilly road. I think this is really improving not only my endurance, but my speed as well. Now I have an official time to submit to Disney.:thumbsup2

Keep on training ladies! We are all going to be awesome in a few months!

(Just to add, I did the 10K as a Galloway run/walk of 4/1.)

Great report Amy...I laughed at your banter. Great race too. I think that run I would HAVE to have my music playing.....well I do have my intervals on my Ipod so I need it for that which is why I am the rule breaker. You can catch some funny stuff with the one ear in and one ear out! I can't believe that dude just let it out......so funny and talk about motivation! Thanks for sharing!

Great job Amy! Im surprised at the lack of costumes too!

Great finish time, your training is seriously showing in your results! Kudos to your little Trainer man!

Great recap. That trail looks similar to the trail I go for my long runs. I would be so bored without music, but at least you were entertained by other runners! Congrats on your second half, and a great time!

Loved the whole blog! Priceless banter, priceless moments, great experience for the rest of us to read! Congrats on doing well with the race too. :yay:

Woo!!! Congrats!!

You guys are great - thanks for the kind words. It's nice to have an outlet to share this stuff with people who "get it" so that my husband & co-workers don't have to give me the glassy-eyed stare....

Congrats to all the other weekend runners / racers! It's exciting to see so many people hitting goals they never thought they could! Keep sharing!

Woo-woo! 1st non-Dis half is on the books!! 2:22-ish. (I accidentally paused my app for 4 minutes, so I'll have to wait until official results are posted to know the exact!) Wow - that was somethin'! REALLY cold at start, but not unbearable. Good run, but on a biking / running trail so kinda skinny at the start for all those people - a little hard to dodge around, even though they did have us line up by pace groups which probably helped a lot. I didn't take the headphones (Heather, I am also a rule-follower!) and I DID regret it. But, I made it through and there will be a MOST interesting race report on the blog, hopefully by tomorrow. There were some pieces of work out there!!!:rotfl2: But all the eavesdropping helped distract me!

So glad it's done and, no, I cannot ever see myself doing a full marathon! However, it did hit me somewhere along mile 7 that this very weekend last year, I was doing my first 5K - and now I've run my 2nd half-marathon. Go, me!

I was there too! I loved your blog entry! That weather was similar to my first Tinkerbell Half and although I did not run into the farting guy, I did end up doing intervals with a lady doing her first 1/2 Marathon. The Silver Comet Race was okay but I don't know if I would do it again. I was like you following the rules with the no headphones only to see the majority of people there with them! :headache: The Thanksgiving Half is my next race followed by the Zooma.

My family and I are participating in the Royal Family 5k (mom and dad walking, my sister and I running). To remember the event, I purchased the commemorative pin -sight unseen.

The website also mentioned something about a commemorative necklace. Has there been a necklace in past years? Any idea on the design?

How are you feeling on that? I have thought of doing something similar (already been doing smoothies for breakfast) because I have started gaining weight like crazy the last few months. Everything I try to mix up what I eat seems to just be making it worse.
DH is talking about getting me a juicer for Christmas.

I know for sure they didn't do it last year. I believe this is the first year they are doing it.

I did my 9 miles yesterday. Overall the run went pretty well. I am amazed at how much better it is going this year then last. Last year 9 was a bit struggle and this time it was actually pretty easy. I do not even feel sore at all today and last year I was feeling it for sure.

You ladies are doing fabulous on all your run times, WAY TO GO!!!! I had to catch up on 5 pages cause I've been gone for that long :( I did have a 2 miler down for today but didn't get it in. I did get my 2-30 min runs during the week in. I've been SO busy and its only going to get busier with the holidays. How do you stay focused? I do have to say I wasn't home for these last 2 days at a conference. I'm hoping with the time change I'll get my runnning in during the A.M. and it will leave the rest of the day for me to do everything that needs to get done. Keep up the great work and I'll be back to post my 2 miler tomm :)

Well, we managed to get in our run today-- it was cold and windy, but the snow had melted in most spots. It was a "race-pace" 5K-- my goal was to do it in in 10 min miles, but I started a bit too fast and then the headwind was just a killer. Did finish 3.1 mi in 32 min, so that's still about 10:30 min/mi. A race can have bad weather, and you just have to work through it, right?

I found a 10K in Lexington next Sunday that I'm thinking about doing (Any MA people familiar with it?) to try to get a time to submit for the Princess. Any idea what I'd have to run to get a time that would put us in Corral B? I would hope for 1:10-ish. I think it will be good to run an "official" race between now and the Princess and get a feel for how it works. They have race-day registration, so I think I'm going to hold out a bit to make sure the weather report isn't ridiculous!

Congrats on the weight loss! I would love to lose 10-15 before the race, is there a diet plan or website you would recommend for"juicing"?

Thank you!
Michele

Now if anyone can post something motivational to get me to stop eating all the Halloween candy I bought to hand out tomorrow, I would greatly appreciate that as well...

My little princess picked our candy out this year and she picked pixie stix and smarties. I am not into eating the stix at all....which is good. I do like smarties, but they don't talk to me like M&Ms or Reeses. I decided this year I am not eating any candy....it starts the snowball of the holiday eating. Next year, buy stuff you don't want to eat!

Hoping you got a good run in today.

Check out jointhereboot.com. They have some great recipes and I am doing a modified reboot, so I am eating and juicing. I saw the movie Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead on Netflix which introduced me to the benefits of juicing. I was doing juice occasionally, but now have it daily. Love my juice! I cut back on and pretty much don't eat processed food...or eat very little, I did have 2 pumpkin pancakes I made tonight -yummy. I need to be careful though as I add mileage to make sure nutritionally I am OK. Just doing lots of googling and research. If you are on Facebook, Fat Sick and Nearly Dead has a group, very supportive and helpful ideas.

I also find when I write down what I eat everyday it keeps me in check. I learned that from Weight Watchers when I did it years ago. Its a great program.

I wish there was a candy that I didn't like. I bought the cheaper mixes of twizzlers and tootsie rolls because $10 for one bag of chocolate is crazy, especially when I need at least 2-3 for all of our trick or treaters! At least twizzlers aren't the worst candy in the world, after all they are low fat :rolleyes1 I do plan to bring the leftovers to school for rewards so they aren't tempting me at home after tomorrow.

I ran 3 miles, and felt so sluggish. We've been moving this week, so I'm not sure if I was tired from moving boxes and furniture up and down stairs, or from last weekend. At least I did it, so I don't have to feel guilty about skipping out!

Congrates to all who ran and ran in this awful weather. I had a 5K scheduled for yesterday along the boardwalk, but had to skip it. With the weather conditions I wasn't too upset. It was so windy that the sand was blowing. Any way, some how I didn't read the flier ver carefully. Thought the race started at 9 but it was the registration that started at 9, the race didn't start till 10:30 and DH had to leave for work at 10:15. I tried to scramble to find someone to stay with the kiddos, but no luck. Just the sprint back the car sucked. I have a lot of respect for those hwo stuck it out and ran it.

Going off of last year's placement that would be about right, but of course that depends on what everyone else submits.
I had friends last year who submitted times of 1:05, 1:13 and 1:16 and they were all in corral B. I didn't have a time to submit and I ended up in D. This year I submitted 1:15 so I am hoping to make it to B, but would be okay with C also.

Question for you guys:

I'm straying a little bit from the Princess training plan due to the 10k I have on the 12th. I did a 6 mile run on Friday..so how many miles do you think I should do for my long run this week?

How cool! I think the Silver Comet was a good one for first-timers - not legions of people and it was relatively low-key. But, yes, I don't know that I would do it again - the trail is just too skinny and it was frustrating trying to get around pairs of runners.

Good gracious - you're on a streak! I would love to do the ATL half, too, but the budget won't support 2 within a month. That's the "be careful what you wish for" about running - after I started doing races, my DH and oldest DS wanted to get into it, too. That's great and fun, but now those $20-25 a race fees are starting to morph into $75 for 30-60 minutes of family togetherness!!! But I do really want to encourage my son - he's very athletic and I think this is something he and I could do together. It would be nice to have something in common and a way to spend time together as we are facing the obnoxious "tween" years (he's almost 10)!
