I'm doing the same thing - a half on Tksgvg and then the Princess. So I kinda made up my own thing. After the Nov. half, I will take my training schedule back to around the 10K level and follow the Galloway plan back up from that point. I adjusted the plan a little to accommodate for the # of weeks between the races. I thought dropping back down to half the distance would give my body a nice little break for a few weeks before I started hitting back into double digits again.

Hope you feel better!

Amy, thank you! That's just the kind of suggestion I was looking for, and I think your plan is excellent! That will allow for some rest and lighter work but get us back in double digit shape in time for the Princess!

Colleen, I think mine came off easy since it was months after the injury and the new nail was 90% in, it is thin and lumpy but the nail bed is covered. I looked like it was just the edges holding it on my toe. This was the first nail I have lost, finger or toes, even after locking my thumb in a car door, oh my that one hurt way more then my toe.

Pj

Oh good. When I lost the nail when it got jacked by the couch, it was only hanging on at the base. I tried to keep it pressed down to cover the nail bed and kept it bandaged. The new nail grew up under it and then it fell off. But the exposed nail bed really hurt. I'll try not to mess with this one. At least the nail is attatched all the way around.

Has anyone done the Race Retreat or Platinum ChEAR squad in past races? Dh was thinking he could do the platinum and I can get the race retreat. That way he has a place with food/drinks/kiddie corner to help entertain the boys (they are under 3 so free) while they wait on me and we have a place to meet up. Any experience? Is it super crowded or is it a limited number of people?

I've been out of the loop for a while, had about a dozen + pages to catch up on! I added a bunch of you to my Daily Mile. I'm Nikki P in Lexington SC.

Colleen - Gross! I'd say you have a very unlucky toe!!

Wendy - I understand the ChEAR zone inside the MK is packed. There is a FREE viewing station there, but this year they are requiring everyone to register so they have credentials to access the MK ChEAR zone. Of course, there are several more ChEAR areas that are not free. Check out the RunDisney site.

I too have a Garmin, a 405. I love it, especially the heart monitor. Only wish they came with a class on how to program it. LOL

Had to get my 6.2 miler in early at 5am today as DH had to work. Funny as he is a cop and is working a 10k this am. Was thinking of putting DS7 and DS4 in the back of his parked patrol car so I could participate too! Dont think that would fly! Run felt great and I should bump up my interval run time! :thumbsup2

Think we will sign up for the Pasta in the Park. Only wish there was money that grew on trees!

Am I reading the information about the Pasta in the Park party correctly - that if I arrive at 6:30, I do *NOT* need a park ticket? Trying to plan my day, and make sure I'm reading the information right!

I wondered that as well and Epcot is open late that night so would that mean we can enjoy the park all evening? My DD and I fly in Friday and will go to expo and that would be a decent price for dinner and park time.

My guess is it works like the Halloween or Christmas parties, they will let you in just before the party without taking a day off your park ticket allocation.

Ran a 5k today in just a shade over 32 minutes. Not bad for a beginner. Quite a ways to go before the Princess 1/2, but I'll take it.

Never thought I'd say this, but I think I really have caught the running bug. :yay:

Hi Joan,
http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/calendars/
Based on the calender, Epcot has Evening Magic Hours the night the Pasty party is on.
May

I read it as you can get in at 630pm without park ticket and I would think as long as you are staying on property you can get a wrist band for the extra magic hours

Great job!! I never thought I'd be a runner and now I'm totally hooked

I just registered for the Princess Half as part of the Leukemia Lymphoma Society's Team in Training. This will be my first one, and I'm excited to get started!

Hello all,

I will be running the 2012 Princess half marathon. I just started training this week. I am not a runner but I feel like it would be a great accomplishment to complete this race. I run about a 16:20 mile and a half right now...as of a month ago anyway. The most I have ever run is a 5K. I have not done that in a while but over the next few months I will be doing some here with my job. I just started the Galloway's training for beginners this week so I'm happy about that...that I got out on my own and ran by myself. Anyways, I'm so off subject!!!

I wanted to know if there is a fee for spectators to watch the race. Does anyone know? Thanks in advance AND GREAT luck to all running!!

Welcome!!! Great job getting out there! Keep up the good work - we'll be cheering for you all the way :goodvibes

AP holder discounts came out, so I am booked at All Star Sports!

Congrats on making your reservations! You're a step ahead of me there!!

Hello Princesses,

I have been training using "Marathon and Half Marathon: The Beginner's Guide" by Marnie Caron and have been enjoying it so far. This plan works you up to running 30 minutes and then walking a minute for a half marathon. I've been having problems with my foot and shins since the mileage and running times have increased and have been thinking of switching to the Galloway plan. I just don’t know where to start if I do switch over. Starting from the beginning seems like taking a giant step backwards but jumping to the middle doesn’t seem right either. Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks!

I am not an expert - I have only been running since July, but I am a big believer in listening to your body. If you're having trouble with your foot & shins, I'd say you definitely want to take it easy so that you don't hurt yourself and risk losing weeks of training due to needing to take time off. If you can dial it back a bit, you might find that your foot & shins start to feel better even while you're still able to train. Just by taking it a little easier, you know? And those who follow Galloway's run/walk method just LOVE it. So I say jump in wherever you feel most comfortable and continually adjust accordingly to what your foot/shins can tolerate.

Good Morning Princesses,
Has anyone signed up? Here's the detail from the RunDisney site:

Pasta In The Park Party

Haven't signed up, but I'm considering it! Sounds like fun to me, especially thanks to the extra magic hours.

I reached double digits for the first time since March, when I was training for my first half. DH and I ran 10 miles last Sunday! He ran the entire thing:worship: I can't do that, but stayed with a 3:1 run/walk ratio the entire way. And felt pretty decent the rest of the day, even with a sinus infection! We are running a half in mid-November, and should be ready. What I'm not sure about is what kind of program I should follow between then and the Princess that won't wear out my ancient body parts but will allow me to keep a good level of fitness and peak again at the right time. Suggestions? It's almost 3-1/2 months between races - should I take some time off and start over? In spite of a nasty cold (which I firmly believe I caught at the doc's office when I went because of the sinus infection!), I've stayed on schedule this week, but haven't eaten well. On another note, I know food is expensive at WDW - is the pasta party worth the price? The menu sounds really good. Congrats to all you ladies who have jumped into your training programs!! As far as motivation problems, it's pretty normal for them to come and go. Right now the change to cooler weather is motivating me, as well as having a race next month. The cold/sinus issue is the drag and it's hard to fight that when I wake up feeling like cr*p. What about setting some short term goals to go along with the regular mileage increases? Like knocking 10 or 20 seconds off your pace for shorter training runs, or adding that to your run intervals if you're doing Galloway? Something that is achievable and will make you feel like you've accomplished something extra?

I'm sorry this post is so long!

Congrats on a GREAT run! Short term goals are wonderful for keeping us motivated in between the larger milestones. Love your attitude!

I guess I can officially call my self a runner. I have started to develop my first black toe nail. Well really it looks very bruised. I think it was from the end of my orthotic taking up too much space in the front of my shoe. Cut that sucker right down! It's so swollen that the nail bed is raised. I'm hoping it wil go down some before I run tomorrow.

Hope your poor toe feels better soon!!

WAY TO GO!!! That's awesome! :worship:

Thanks for posting the party in the park/race retreat info! Have these been offered in the past and if so, has anyone done either of them? I'm leaning towards the race retreat but keep telling myself it's silly to pay $99 just so you can have some flip flops and a snack :)

I'm leaning toward doing the retreat, but I want the temp controlled tents :)

Flip flops are a bonus:laughing:

Has anyone started thinking about outfits for the race? I keep going back and forth whether I want to wear regular running gear or a costume/tutu of some sort.

Julie princess:

Today I ran 5k in 45 minutes. I had been running with a friend and it is a lot of fun since I have someone to talk. I finally registered today!! :rotfl: Now im looking for airline tickets. Im so excited.

Can someone give me the link for the race retreat information and the pasta diner?? I cant find it!

I'm really interested in the pasta party if we can hang out in Epcot after the party ends to enjoy EMH. Has anyone done one of the pasta parties before? Do they keep you corraled in a certain area the entire time?

I got a 5 mile run in today. The toe was ok. Swollen afterward but didn't seem any worse. It was hot hear today. Really made a difference with my pace. But felt so good to feel the sun shining on my face. Tuesday it's supposed to be cool again.

Congrats to all making travel plans. I have our hotel and ADRs made, just need to get flights.

Went out after two weeks off with a chest cold and did my longest run yet.... 8 miles today! Did it in a 13:20 pace, was hoping to be in the 12's but the last 1.5 miles killed me! But i got 'er done!

Dig deep everyone!

Michele
