I registered today!!! :yay:
This is my first half and I am so nervous. I started training this week and knew it would be too easy for me to quit if I waited any longer to enter.

I want to go all out and run in costume (not a full dress but a cute tutu or sparkle skirt). Can anyone tell me where I should shop for such race attire? I have heard of Team Sparkle but I would love to hear other suggestions as well.

Just finished a 5K with my PR of 14:11 pace. Won my age division (old ladies)! Now, if I could just do that sort of pace for the Princess, I would be set!

It must be late because I read this and thought you did the whole 5k in 14 minutes and was awestruck, lol. Still impressed by a 14:11 mile, though! :) congrats!

Long run done! All my run trackers went wonky, but estimated 8.75km 1:23:xx 9:32/km, and best of all, I think I would have been go to go at least a little further. ran/walked on both halves, not much in the middle (got distracted my tech stuff, sigh...) I also wore my Sparkle Tech Skirt (with the Running of the Ears logo) for the 1st time, love it!!!!!

I can't wait to work on my "dress" for the race with Leah. I am going with peasant Belle, so simple blue "dress", apron and blue hair bow. The sketch she did was perfect.

I know we aren't official Princess runners (doing the Royal Family 5k) but I just wanted to update where we are staying: AK Kidani. :)

In other news, my mom and I started C25k yesterday and enjoyed it!

I booked my flight to Orlando :goodvibes I'm hoping Southwest ends up with prices under "want to get away" for my return leg, but I'll worry about leaving Disney later. I'm home from my business trip and can get back on my training schedule. Next weekend is 7.5 miles.

Are there a good amount of people who mostly walk the half marathons? I really want to do the princess 1/2 but I am just not a runner. I just don't want to be the only slow poke walking/jogging the whole thing.

I would venture to say more people walk/run or walk than run this event. I remember the course being fairly empty for me when I was running a bit over the 2 hour mark...but my mom, who was a complete walker, was complaining about how crowded it was for her. As long as you can maintain the 16 min/mile pace...you'll be totally fine!

I know that this is going to sound super crazy. I'm 29yo and Im overweight and not in a great physical shape. I love Disney and I always wanted to participate in the Princess half marathon. I had been in a diet and training for the past 21 days and will keep going until I get in shape to do the marathon. I had never run that long but this is my goal. Im working hard and getting ready because I want to do the marathon son bad!! I will work my butt off so I can go a participate with all of you. :cutie:
By now I lost 12 lbs and can run for 30 minutes straight. I hope I can run this year!

That doesn't sound crazy at all - it sounds incredibly smart! You've got a plan, you've gotten started and you have a goal - all keys to success! We'd love to have you with us!

Okay - am in awe and I had to share for some perspective. A high school friend is doing the Ironman Wisconsin today. She's still on the run but within the last 4 miles - there's a site where you can track a participant's time splits. As I said, she is on the last bit of her 26.2 mile run and has clocked an average of 10.42 min miles. This is after swimming for 2.4 miles and biking for 112!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As I was getting to the end of my 6.5 yesterday, my pace totally started tanking b/c I was completely losing steam. Um, hello, whiney!!!

But big picture, I'm glad I can be so happy for her while still being proud of myself for doing what I can do. I love this sport b/c there is so much encouragement. This particular friend is one who was one of my biggest supports when I was starting out - she could have easily blown off my measly efforts but she was SUCH a cheerleader. Yay for runner chicks!

Definitely not crazy! You are taking the initiative to do something healthy and fun for yourself! It sounds like you are already doing great, and having a race as motivation to stay on track with your diet and exercise plans is great motivation. I hope you'll be there to join us in February!

Congrats on your progress! Sounds like you have a solid plan. I was about where you are now with running last year and I finished! You have plenty of time.

WELCOME! And please continue to inspire us with your progress!

This thread is full of amazing support. It moves really fast, and there is so much wisdom here. Keep up the good work, mama! :goodvibes

That's amazing! Do you have any idea what her pace is for just a marathon? so many tri folks i know are in the 7-8 min/mile range for distance races....and that's so just incredibly intimating to me. Not that I have any plans on doing an ironman any time soon (um I haven't even done a tri yet) but it's comforting to hear of more "average" runners having enough time to finish, too!

and yes...be happy for what you can do....and you can always dream of going longer and faster :)

This is kind of a random question, but with halloween costumes in store now I was looking around at different wings to wear during the race. I'm about 90% sure I'll wear a tink theme for princess, since I'm planning it for January and don't want to buy parts for a completely different costume a month later. I'm planning a lime green team sparkle skirt with my WISH shirt and WISH princess band.

I think some wings would be cute and would tie it all together. Has anyone worn wings during a race? What is the best style? Did you have to alter them at all so they wouldn't bounce? I'm thinking the little girl styles would be better than the adult ones since I think smaller would be better. I don't know what I'll do to keep them from bouncing around the whole time though...

When I was at the Disneyland Marathon expo I asked one of the vendors (who was wearing wings) if they didnt bother her when she ran. She said the trick was to tie the elastic loops (that you put your arms through) around the back of her sports bra then pin the wings to each shoulder of her top. I think she had on a racer back shirt... It made sense when she explained it. Hope this helps.

Thanks, that does make sense. I'm wondering how it would work if I'm not wearing a tank top. I could still pin the wings though...

Another option that I'm considering for "wings" for the Tinkerbell in Jan. is just getting some form of an iron-on (decal or rhinestone transfer) wings made and just putting those on the back of a shirt. I agree though if you're going for actual wings, I would stick with the child-sized ones. I'm also hoping to find some sort of ponytail holder with wings, but having no luck so far. I'm considering buying a Tinkerbell doll/figure and trying to take the wings off of that and attach them to a ponytail holder myself, although that sounds like it could be a disaster  I guess I could try to get the doll on Black Friday so at least I hopefully won't waste too much $$ on it if it doesn't work.
