Thanks for all the encouragement. I have a group of about 8-10 friends who are all talking about it so it looks like I may be training for my first 1/2 Marathon. Did those words actually just come out of my mouth ?!?!?!?!?

That sounds like a blast! I saw so many groups of women running together all decked out in princess running costumes this past year. It made me want to round up a group of friends to run. Too bad none of my friends share my same passion for running...

Just finished my 3rd 5k race! I PR'ed it at an 11:49 pace. I'm super happy with that. One more 5k next month then amping up to 10K's after that! No shin problems at all. Life is good!

Hope the running/walking is going well for everyone else today.

Michele

2 things....

1. I am trying to get back into running but my lingering Plantar faciitis just won't go away. Plus my ankle is now tight and pops when I point and flex. I am going back to the doctor since this has been going on since January but wondering if anyone has an experience with Tendonitis can chime in and say, "Yep that popping ankle is a sign". I really miss my running! When I am out there doing it I feel great, but afterwards not so fun, though I will say its MUCH better than it was and usually the next day after a short run, all is well. I am doing a 10K on the 4th of july and honestly plan on walkling alot as its so hilly, but know afterwards I am also going to get someone to reevalutate my shoes.

2. POST RACE CELEBRATION
So the 180 window of reservations is approaching and wondering where everyone is thinking of doing the post race celebratory meal. Last year we did a late lunch at Akerhus which was fun with our medals and the princesses. This year thinking of trying to get into Le Cellier. What are you thinking? Yeah, my foot has me bummed so thinking of some fun things about the race like the fun meal with friends and your medals afterwards.

I have been dealing with PF on and off for two years. Stretching is the key for me. If I stretch as soon as I finish running my PF does much better. Yoga is also helpful!

Awesome job, congrats on the PR!

What kind of stretches do you do for your PF? I am suffering from it too. In fact, I am going to see an acupuncturist on Tuesday.

Just finished reading through the whole thread. I have to say all of you are the nicest and most inspirational people on the DisBoards. I am going to try the princess 1/2 this year. It has been my dream to do it and I am finally going to train for it and do it! You all have made me so excited to try. I am easily 100lbs overweight and definitely not a natural runner, but listening to you all I can't help but believe that I can do it. My DH who is a long distance runner by nature has been supportive as well and is thinking of running the race with me as well. I can be found on daily mile as Lindsay Grooms B. I think they have my location listed as Brentwood TN. Thank you all for your encouragement and advice. I am really enjoying reading this thread and getting to know you all.

Just curious, what other ways, if any, does everyone else workout?

I throw in the elliptical a couple times a week (usually when I SHOULD be running).

I've fallen in love with kettlebells and boxing lately - do each once a week for over an hour each. Boxing is so much fun! Even if I *do* get my butt kicked every week...there is NOTHING like punching the daylights out of a 60 pound bag and/or the pads!

I do ab work twice a week as well...which I do not enjoy! But have gotten better at...sort of.

I've been really bad about cross training since my mileage is getting a lot higher during my marathon training. I used to do yoga twice a week, and tried to also do elliptical twice a week.

So glad you found us!! :goodvibes I "friended" you on daily mile. I am Kathryn J.

I am a good 55-65 lbs overweight (was 70-80 but am down 15 this year), and I totally understand the slower, not natural runner thing.

What is your training plan? So cool that your hubby is supportive!

I admire people that can do yoga. I just don't 'get' it - even beginner classes were to advanced for me!

I do 4-5 Taekwondo classes a week. :)

Which Kathryn J. are you on Daily Mile? I am Taryn D. and my picture is me in a pink shirt with my son on my back. :)

I used to do Yoga, but I had abdominal surgery last September and have not been back since then. I am hoping to get back into it once school starts again.

I do DVD's at home because sometimes I can't do the poses or moves and don't feel silly if no one is watching:lmao: I really like using my body and stretching to gain strength.

Welcome! I've lost 10 pounds just in the last 12 weeks with running alone. Havent changed the way I've eaten much, which I know I need to do. But still amazed what happens when you get off your butt and move! :) You can do it and congrats on your decision!

Dig Deep!

I completed 3 Disney Half marathons at over 200 lbs. I was really afraid I would be swept the first year. I did almost everything wrong possible, and I still managed to finish. The training is really important to get you through those last 7 or so miles. Having your dh as a runner will help, he can give you great advice and encouragement. Believe in yourself, put the training miles in, and you will have that medal placed around your neck! :cheer2:

I do a few various workouts throughout the week, especially right now cause my work schedule is really random. I've been doing a lot of Jillian Michael's DVDs and I was able to discover the weight room in my new apartment complex. If you're interested about reviews or anything like that I post some in my blog in my signature.

I've running 5 times a week, so it's tough to do much else! I do take a kettleball class once a week in the evenings (and I run in the am...so how long I'll be able to keep this up for is a mystery). I just got a road bike so I'm having fun with that...I would like to ride twice a week, but it's really been once a week since I don't really have anyone to ride with during the week when it works for my sched. Spin class is a good rainy day option. I should lift weights at least a second time...but I'm struggling with that lately as my weekly mileage is getting in into the 30s.
