So glad you found us!! :goodvibes I "friended" you on daily mile. I am Kathryn J.

I am a good 55-65 lbs overweight (was 70-80 but am down 15 this year), and I totally understand the slower, not natural runner thing.

What is your training plan? So cool that your hubby is supportive!

So far I am following the Running for Mortals 5k plan...and then after 10 weeks will move to the 10k plan. I will see where I am from there. Barring any complications I hope to be ready for this years Princess. My husband said he would run it with me and stay with me during the race, which is very sweet because he could easily run the race very quickly. He ran a 1/2 Marathon in Nashville on a whim with barely any preparation and was fine. I wish I had those genes. In the mean time I am waddling on... :)

Im sure this was already asked in the past 85 pages, I just can't scroll through them all on my phone while I'm in the doctor's waitingroom. This race is on Sunday, correct? And is it a morning start or a night start?

Sunday and a morning start. It was at 6:45AM in 2011 (wheelchairs start first, then 5 min waves of corrals A-F). You have to be in the corral by about 6AM, so catching the bus around 4:30AM.

Just curious, what other ways, if any, does everyone else workout?

I throw in the elliptical a couple times a week (usually when I SHOULD be running).

I've fallen in love with kettlebells and boxing lately - do each once a week for over an hour each. Boxing is so much fun! Even if I *do* get my butt kicked every week...there is NOTHING like punching the daylights out of a 60 pound bag and/or the pads!

I do ab work twice a week as well...which I do not enjoy! But have gotten better at...sort of.

During the summer I am taking a Cross Fit class to augment my running. Usually I do some weight machines on non-run days. This fall when school starts again (I'm a substitute teacher so can't take day classes during the school year) the Cross Fit teacher is going to leave me the weight workouts to do, hopefully by the time school starts I'll be back to my daily 4 mile runs. (I'm trying to rehab a torn capsulary in my knee so am not running as long yet)

Thank you Kat! That's what I though but wasn't certain. My college friends are having a reunion/run at the 2012 Princess weekend...and now DH decided he and DS's should come meet up with me for the following week, so now I need to extend my hotel ressie. I don't want to tell him how great it would be to have them surprise me at the finish line...maybe he'll figure it out all on his own, lol!:rotfl:

Just received notice that I'm in ... Houston Half Marathon on my 45th birthday (January 15th, 2012). What a way to celebrate ... with my first half!! And then the Princess is the following month. I will need the rest of 2012 to recover!!

Anyone else running in the Houston Half??

Congrats, what a cool way to celebrate! My BF is running the full for his second year and I thought that I would try to get into 2012's half, but then they announced the Tinkerbell Half and I couldn't pass that up so I chose that one instead. I'll be out there cheering though! :cheer2:

Hey Princesses! So glad to see some other new folks on board and to hear how everyone's training is going!

I have a question, which may be TMI, but... I understand the need for tech fabrics and the "cotton is rotten" mantra, but what does a princess do for undergarments under her tech shorts/skort, etc? My understanding is that cotton undies are preferable to synthetics, but that sort of defeats the purpose of the tech fabric on one's bottom half...:laundy:

Any comments, suggestions, ideas, recommendations would be most appreciated!!:flower3:

This princess goes for microfiber. It's definitely more wicking than full cotton. :)

Some princesses, from what I hear, consider compression shorts to *be* undies.

I wouldn't wear cotton for sure for training or the race - I bought some microfiber just for that purpose. I usually don't wear underwear if the pant/capri/bike short has a defined crotch. Yeah I know TMI. I do usually wear a skort or shorts over my bike shorts though as the main reason I wear them is to prevent the thigh rub chafing and well in case the shorts or pants spread out a little much so you can um, see things through the fabric, I like to be covered. OK, I just put it all out there for ya.:lmao:

So who is going to sign up next week? I think I will to encourage me to work on my training slowly and if I have any issues get them handled early.

I'm going to sign up next week :cool1:

I might have some issues with work when it actually comes up, but right now I'm going to worry about it when the time comes

I'm waiting...I have another Half in early August and I'm hoping for a new PR to use for my expected total time. I'm a little concerned because this will be the warmest race I've ever run, so we'll see...

I am torn about wether or not Im signing up next week. I want to because I think it would be great motivation to keep going, but I also want to wait a bit to see how things go. UGH! So Im undecided.:confused3

I've heard they ask for your favorite princess when you register. What do they do with the information?

They use is on your race bib....the difference princesses are different colors and has the princess name under your number. Last year Snow White was purple as that was my pick.

AND for those wanting to submit a time, you can do that after you register for the race, that is what I did with my 10k time from Thanksgiving last year. I had signed up I think in October.

Yes -- you can even go to the Expo and bring proof of time if you have a faster time than you originally reported. It's a superstition thing with me -- I like to run my last Half before I sign up for the next one, if I can. ;)

As Saysay mentioned, the favorite princess question is the color of your bib. Here is a list of all the bib colors and princesses I remember seeing last year in case you want a certain color.
Blue - Cinderella
Yellow - Belle
Green - Ariel
Pink - Aurora
Purple - Snow White

Does anyone remember if the newer princesses were on the list last year? If so, please add them to the list!
