Corral question: My understanding is 2:45 is the "fastest" corral you can get into without a time submitted-- if you say you estimate a 2:45 finish, will you for sure get into the 2:45 corral?

A 2:45 finish would be 12:35 per mile, which is definitely around our target time, as we are currently training 12 mm.

I have no idea. Maybe a princess veteran will know. I'm really hoping to do a 10K to get a better idea of what coral placement I will get. I'm hoping to improve my time so I will have plenty of cushion to stop for pictures.princess:

No - because they disperse based on the amount of runners claiming a time not the amount of time...so if say the 1:45 group only has 10, but those up to 2:00 have 200 people, then they could possibly be split into a couple different corrals with other times. That is why it is important to not depend on the corral you are in as a guarantee that you will be with everyone with similar times. I am sure with Boston and all of the elite races it is much different but at Disney you really never know who you will be next to unless you are in the Wheelchair division and maybe corral A. They don't really pay attention to bibs in my experience - at least the four almost five Disney races I have been in now.

Hmmm... Can you request to be in a corral with other runners (i.e. your training partner)?

No you can't, but you can move back corrals if you are separated.

For example: If you are placed in corral C and your friend is in corral F, you can move back into her corral but she cannot move up in yours. You could potentially be in corral A and decide to be in the last corral if you had friends you wanted to run with.

Exactly what I'm going for! I have no idea who or what I will need to be photographed with, but I can only hope Tarzan will be out there in his little outfit yelling my name, jumping up and down! :rotfl:

Good run this am. Nice lightning show and dopler never showed rain anywhere! 90% humidity this AM in South Carolina. Cool breeze helped! Happy Tuesday!!

But if you sign up as a team, will they put you both in the same corral?

It depends on whether you had to submit more than one proof of time. I know for Wine and Dine doing the relay portion, Disney only cared about 1 proof of time for the 2 of us. If they only asked for one proof of time then you will be together. If they wanted a proof of time for both of you then you'll either be in the slower of the corrals that your proof of time indicates or be separated. As someone else mentioned, you can always drop back to the slower corral.

I've wondered this too-- because I don't know what the benefit of signing up as a team is, otherwise. It's not a relay--you both run the whole race. And the cost is the same.

Anyone signed up as a team or have some insight?

10 minutes a mile is not good, that's GREAT!!! WTG!

You can definitely do it - I do a combination of jogging and walking and will be doing my first 1/2 on Saturday (Wine and Dine 1/2 marathon). I am very nervous and excited at the same time. I have been sketchy on my training between vacation and school starting have only been able to get in maybe two runs per week and I have been able to maintain right at a 13:50/mile pace for 10 miles. So if I can do it, you can definitely do it :)

And as JCH said, you still have 5 months to go!!!

Way to go on your first 1/2 this weekend!:cheer2: Please let us all know how it goes. Wooohooo!!!!! Keep up the good work!:woohoo:

Hi gang...I just registered today to run the Princess Half Marathon. I've only been running since October, and only regularly for the past 4 months or so. I run about 3 to 4 times/week and my longest run so far has been about 7.25 miles. I printed out the training schedule and will start Oct. 24 after my Disney Cruise.
My DD is a CM at the Boardwalk so we'll probably book a room there.

Good luck with your training everyone.

Where did you get the training schedule that you will be using? Would you mind posting a link if you have one?:flower3:

I am hoping to do a 10K sometime by December. As of right now I put that I planned to finish in 2:45. Although I just calculatd my pace for my 5 mile run and it was actually an average of 14:04, not 12:30 . I just ordered a garmin watch. Hopefully that will help me pace myself better. I would love to run the Princess at a 13 mm.

I don't have a garmin but I've been using the Log My Run app on my iPhone with a built in GPS. So far it's been really accurate but i'd really prefer to have something smaller on my wrist as opposed to wearing an arm band. I'll have to check it out . . .yay, one more thing to buy;)

I submitted my time last week via email and I got a response saying it was entered. It took about 4-5 days before I got a response.

Michele

Good to know! It's been almost a week since I emailed so I will wait a few more days and see.

Thanks

I've had fun catching up on everyone's posts. Got a long run in this past Sat., 7 miles and I have a hilly 10k race this weekend, hoping to beat my last year's time for this race. I'm getting really excited about the princess, just wish the airfare would come down so I could book flights.

Happy running everyone:)

We ended up pushing our return flight 1 day later, but it saved us $200 in airfare and will only cost us food.

But if you sign up as a team, will they put you both in the same corral?

Yes, you will be in the same corral - if you have different times, they will place you in the corral based on the slower time. I would suggest moving to the front of the corral you are assigned to so that you are one of the first people to cross the start line. Not only does it give you more of a threshold with that 16 min. per mile requirement (so it is much longer) but you get away from the crowds.

Run Disney will take a bit longer to respond these days because of the Wine & Dine Half Marathon being this weekend. This race is in February so don't worry - they will change your time one you submit proof of time well before the race. I would wait to submit proof of time information until November 15th - two weeks before the bib deadline (to get your name on it) or wait until the Expo.

So since we're parsing the corral placement stuff here, I have a question. Is there any point in submitting a time that would not equate to a 2:45 finish? I put down 3:15 when I first registered in July, and I'm now training at a speed where I think I can finish in 3:00. I'm running a 10K in October and I'm shooting for a time that would equate to that (can't type it because I don't want to jinx it--it's a reach for me). Would it be worth my while to submit the time so that I can move up to the 3:00 corral(s) if I reach my goal, or is it 2:45 or nothing?

So for my update, I ran my longest run to date on Sunday--8.5 miles. The route included a "little extra loop" (cue ominous music) that turned out to be a BIG hill (200 ft in 3/4 mile; 600 ft climb total on the run). But I did it and included a couple of miles at tempo pace in the middle (erm, AFTER the big hill).

I'm simultaneously feeling strong and confident, but also realizing that as the mileage gets longer, every increase in mileage becomes a bigger deal. Getting up to 10K was pretty easy, but I really feel the difference between 7 and 8.5 miles.

I'm also trying to figure out where I should "hang out" in my training for long runs until we're closer to the race. Any advice welcome!
