Official 2011 Wine & Dine Half and Relay Thread

I'm #8853, and this is my first time running any kind of race! I'm getting very nervous about the whole thing now, especially since my training has slacked for various health/injury/flood issues over the past few weeks

I've been lurking on this board for a while, and would love to know if anyone is running alone all the way in the back (like me)...

I feel for you. We are in NJ (Warren Cty) and in the same boat. DH and I just got over bronchitis, our house was underwater until yesterday (lots of damage) and now the race is just 3 weeks away. DH and I managed to go for a run yesterday. I am sure you will be ok.

I am #4584 and DH is #4578. Somehow getting a bib number always make the race feel more real and close.

Anyone know how many participants?

Hi everyone!

First, thank you all for the thoughts regarding my groin injury. I haven't been able to run for nearly a week and it is driving me crazy, but I did the Eliptical at the gym yesterday and will do the same today, and it seems to have helped. Plus I have been icing it and stretching, and I am now not so sure it IS a pulled groin muscle and instead some other swollen muscle in my pelvic area, because I can feel exactly where the pain is and it is quite a bit closer to where the thigh and core come together on the underside, deep up in my right side very near the private area (I am trying to be specific without being too graphic, and this is probably TMI anyway...) Point is, I think it might be something else.... which I am hoping translates into something not as bad. It IS a muscle injury though. That much I am pretty certain of.

Second, I also agree to a Friday night meet at DTD. It sounds like enough people are interested in that and so how about we go ahead and schedule a time/place? My thoughts - We are doing MNSSHP so like 5 PM is a good meet time for us, and I think a restaurant is a bad idea because we have to have a head count for that and I think it should be more casual, so how about meeting in that outdoor amphitheater area just across the walkway from World of Disney? Then, as a group if we want to get ice cream or something we can. I envision a casual meet where we can identify each other for Saturday, give hugs, and maybe just chat and in general meet each other. So: Friday, 5 PM, amphitheater across from World of Disney, maybe we wear some sort of PINK somewhere to help identify each other? OHHH!!! Maybe we wear our running gear and for those interested we could do an easy 5K run afterwards at the Wilderness Campgrounds or somewhere easy to get to from DTD?

Third - jhimelrick, yes your Wife and daugher will need tickets. They can be purchased through thie RunDisney site. I think they are $55 or something per person, although your daughter might be discounted given her age, maybe.

Forth - Mermaid&Cinderella, Your cheering section COULD instead cheer you on somewhere along the Boardwalk. You do not need a park ticket to access the boardwalk and if you have your own car they can park at either Boardwalk, Yacht, Beach, Swan or Doulphin and place themselves along that part of the course route. Then, you finished the race, YOU can walk through EPCOT because you are allowed into the party as a runner, and you can pop out at the International Gateway and meet up with them so that you all can head to your car. It might be less hectic then having your party cheer/meet you at the actual finish line. Unless of course you WANT a finish line cheering section / photo op, etc, in which case my suggested grand scheme is a fail.

We only have two more weekends until the event. :scared1: ACK!! I am going to run this thing even at the risk of further injury. I won't be stupid about it, but damned if I am going to allow some little muscle strain to stop my participation in my first DISNEY race!

Generally we wear some Lime Green...as it is our color. But hot pink and lime green go wonderfully together!

Don't forget you are allowed to enter the Magic Kingdom around 4pm with a MNSSHP ticket.

The Boardwalk and Yacht and Beach Clubs were rather strict with their parking last year. They actually turned cars away. Thank goodness I had a parking pass from my friend who was staying there (and riding with us).

I caved and am going to the knee doctor tomorrow  I have three symptoms which are troublesome... first and foremost, there have been many many occasions where I think there is water/liquid on my knee only to look down and find no liquid whatsoever on my knee (which likely means something is dripping on the inside, lovely). Second, when I bend my knee it feels like an over-stretched rubber band (the only analogy I can think of) and lastly I have flashes where my knee just feels "cold". Since I *was* planning on doing three more 1/2s in January and February (as well as get my C2C in 2012), I thought I had better get it checked out just on the off chance it is something more serious than I would like to admit. Anyway I go in tomorrow at 3 pm - I am hopeful it is nothing serious.

Friday night in DTD is fine with me by the way - I didn't see a time or location - I know earlier might work better for those who are going to MNSSHP.

First, who knows what time we can enter the park for the wine and dine race? I am planning to go to the expo on saturday but it closes at 4 pm...dont know what to do until 10! lol

Second, I have been having some ankle issues this week. I have a weird bruise like feeling on my left ankle right between the ball of my ankle and achilles tendon. It doesnt hurt unless i push on it or if i bend it really far sideways. My roomate said it was my achilles and to stretch it a lot...but I just want to make sure its nothing bad. It was better after I took a day off running, but right after my 5k saturday it started hurting again. But like I said its almost like a bruise that only hurts when I touch it...

Thanks guys!

how does everyone know their bib number? I don't see it on my email.

found it.....relay team # 22183

As this is a hard ticket event, I imagine they will want to pretty much clear the park. It couldn't hurt to ask some Cast Members for a more definitive answer.

10 miles today in 1:57 legs felt good and I tried a Clif Shot for the first time. I think I'm officially ready...I hope

If you are talking about entering as a spectator, according to the Official race program on the website, those with spectator party tickets can enter EPCOT starting at 7:00pm.

If you are a runner, the race starts at Wide World of Sports so you would not want to be over in EPCOT ;)

Hope this helps!

Thank you. I guess i need to print that out before i forget.

BTW. What is MNSSHP

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, a hard ticket event in the Magic Kingdom that offers a trick or treating type experience, a special parade and special fireworks as well as attractions and limited dining venues being open. The party is officially from 7pm-Midnight, but your ticket can get you entry to the park around 4pm.

Finished my race day outfit this weekend! I will not be able to make the meet since we do not get in until late friday night, so if anyone recognizes me at the race or afterparty please say hello...this is what I'll be wearing: (the pic on the right is what is on the back of my shirt) I'll also have a clip in my hair that has strands of pink LED lights attached to it!

when I was there for Marathon weekend in January I saw the Food Court at POFQ had a special "runner's meal" the night before the race. I was hoping Sports would have something like that too. I'll admit......i'm not usually a disciplined eater when it comes to races, since I only run 3-5 miles. so if all i can find is a chicken breast and rice....i'll be good with that.

I stayed at All Star Sport last year for the wine and dine... I have to admit I didn't even look at the food court. I did talk to people at the pool the next day who all complained about the food there on friday night. So I don't know if they had a "runner's meal".

I injured my leg right before the January half on my last training run. I limped the entire race... I made it to the medical tent before the magic kingdom. Thought about stopping.. said oh, I'll at least make it through the MK. By the time I was out of there.. It was mile 7. What the heck, I can finish that.. So I did.

I finished within the time limit.. just barely. As I crossed over the bridge heading into EPCOT I looked back and there were still thousands of people behind me ... as far as I could see. So being swept wasn't an issue.

But after I got the medal I wouldn't wear it. Didn't feel like I earned that right.. But I kept it!

What?? :scared1: I think limping an entire race and having the mental toughness to finish and not give up definitely earned you the right to wear the medal. You finished eventhough you thought about stopping...you should be proud of the bling!

Oh and I think putting in the time and work to train earned you the right too...I can't even imagine training for a race and injuring myself on the last run...heartbreaking!
