Official 2011 Wine & Dine Half and Relay Thread

For anyone that did this race last year, did they give a mesh drawstring backpack as the goody bag at the expo...like the one we got at the Princess?

Nope they were plastic like the ones for marathon weekend. I wish they would have those mesh ones at something other than the princess. They make handy bags at the farmers market.

The vast majority of the time all you get are the plastic bags. Usually it is because the bad doubles as a gear check bag and they consider those throw-away items.

The only time I got anything else was the Pittsburgh half where you got specific bag check bags along with your goody bag.

Thanks! My BF got one at the WDW half...I think it was 2 years ago now??...the year it was icy...and then since I got one at Princess we thought maybe it was a WDW thing, since we didn't get one at DL.

Are there a decent amount of photo ops with characters and such at this race too...with enough light set up around for a good pic? My BF is going to run this one with me and we're making it a point to stop for as many pics as we can and not worry about time. It'll be the first time either one of us has stopped for any pics on the course!

Last year there were a fair number of photo ops. Not all characters, though. If I recall correctly I remember the lighting situation was hit and miss. Looking through my photos it looks like a lot of them relied on the flash of the camera--at least the ones outside the parks.

As you can see in one of my favorite photos from the race (so much so that I used it on my holiday cards last year.)

:lmao: LOVE IT! :lmao:

Another Question i have is that what kind of camera are you guys taking along the run? I find it very cumbersome if i bring along a point and shoot camera. I am taking my iphone with me but that would be strapped on my arm. I don't feel like taking my phone out and disconnecting the earphone just to take a pic. Any recommendations?

I always read about people using those SPI belts for their cameras and other things they may be carrying along. I haven't used one myself but my BF and I thought about picking one up for this race to hold the camera. We both like to wear our own hydration belts too so I'm not sure how well that will work with one of us having to wear two belts though. We also thought about just carrying the camera and switching off who carries it every mile to give our hand a break.

I have run all my Disney races with my point and shoot in hand, literally. Sometimes I do let it swing from the strap while waiting for a photo and I do switch up hands so one doesn't cramp. I will also be sporting my iPhone on my belt as I did during the DL ½. It was great for instant Facebooking and texting photos.

i bought a spibelt but have not tested it out with my camera yet..it is going to be a tight fit i think...starting to wonder if i will be able to bring my camera which is really unfortunate....

I'm not bringing one. Don't intend to stop for pictures. If I change my mind, I'll have the camera in my Droid to shoot as I go.

Currently trying to decide what I'm wearing. Debating between representing my alma mater (Iowa State Cyclones) or my favorite charity (Wounded Warrior Project).

Hi all!

Well, first regarding the camera - I have a Nikon CoolPix that I would like to bring with me... but I got a very cool Runners World belt that just barely holds my Droid and not much else. I can fit money, ID, key, and probably some beans or gel along with my droid, but not a camera. So now I am thinking I might just have to use my Droid for photos.

There IS Photopass during the run, is there not? I will probably take advantage of that if so.

I am also staying at Port Orleans French Quarter. I am pretty sure I am going to drag my hubby to MNSSHP Friday night, but I would be up for a meet anytime, anywhere on Friday or Saturday. At the expo, or maybe Downtown Disney?

In other news, I think I have injured a groin muscle, and based on some reading I have done and what a physical therapist has said, I might be in some trouble for the W&D. I am still totally doing it, but my training between now and then might be limited and that sucks. I am now officially concerned, and a little upset. :sad1:

Oh also, thanks for the information regarding Advil prior to running! I am now re-thinking my strategy.

Hey there everyone. Hope you all had a great holiday weekend. I appreciate the continued encouragement and support - it definitely keeps me going :)

I got in 8.9 miles today (yay!), averaged 14 minutes 14 seconds phttp://www.wdwinfo.com/images/smilies/cool1.gifer mile so I feel pretty good about that all things considered. I am pretty sure that I won't be able to walk tomorrow, but feel a little better about my ability to at least finish the half next month.

I really started enjoying my run around mile 3-4 and then by mile 7, I couldn't wait for it to be over. My right foot started getting numb and my left hip started to REALLY bother me.

Enjoy the week :)

Great job:thumbsup2

I'm in the same boat, somewhere between mile 6 and 7 I get a pain in my toes, so weird. Right where the toes meet the foot it just really starts to hurt. I can usually walk it out, but then its so hard to start running again. Seems like whenever one pain goes away, another pops up. I just get slower and slower :sad2:

I did a 12.5 mile walk the other day and finished in 3:18 so if I have to walk to finish, I will

I don't recall seeing Photopass photographers at the character stops. The only official-looking camera people I saw were the race photographers. (ASI I think is the name of the company?)

Oregon Girl i hope you get well soon. I guess i have to take my canon point and shoot camera which i am not too enthusiastic about. I recently hurt my left rest, but does't bother my jogging ability. I think this whole 1/2 marathon is all about having fun and enjoying so dont stress yourself out.

All,

I am down with downtown disney on friday night cause first of all its free and it is also a great central place to meet up.

I just did 3 miles in 10:01 today. Will be doing 10miles this sunday. For some reason i am pump up when the days i dont train but when the day comes i am not looking forward to it, especially when i have to wake up at 6:30 am to get ready for a 7:30am run before the heat and humidity kicks in.

goodluck training all.

Do we have to take the bus to the expo or can we park there Sat morning to pick up our gear?

So sorry to hear about your injury! Look at it this way though, it kind of forces you to slow down and enjoy being at the race, right? I'm saying that to convince myself as much as you that its ok to not go out to break any speed records for this race :rotfl:

I'm feeling more and more nervous about this race. Normally I can't wait for a Disney trip to get here but I'm finding that I wouldn't mind an extra week or two to get another long run in just to feel more prepared. To say I'm worried is a huge understatement! Any little ache or twinge has me thinking about what I could have possibly injured and I've been feeling a little under the weather this week so I haven't put as many miles in as I would have liked. Tomorrow we have our longest run yet planned, 13-14 miles! It will be about 20 degrees cooler than when we attempted this last weekend so hopefully we'll make it this time

i would love to meet with everyone, since i don't know anyone else running, and my relay partner will be at AK before the race. but my family won't go for anything that takes away from park touring. :rotfl: i'm trying to figure out how to squeeze in the quick trip to the expo to get my packet before we head to Blizzard Beach on Saturday!

If anyone staying at All Star Sports, or any of the All Star resorts, wants to meet for dinner and ride the bus to WWOS together, i'm up for that.

Last year each all star had there own bus going to the start. I am also staying at All Star Sports. My wife and daughter are down at Disney now... So I am going solo for the marathon weekend. I would be up for meeting for dinner on Saturday.. But,.. To back up from a normal race start time my last meal will be about 3:00 PM on Saturday. With only a snack around 7:00 PM.

The food at the All stars is so bad compared even to Pop. It's a shame they are the only value with transportation.
