Official 2011 Wine & Dine Half and Relay Thread

What?? :scared1: I think limping an entire race and having the mental toughness to finish and not give up definitely earned you the right to wear the medal. You finished eventhough you thought about stopping...you should be proud of the bling!

Oh and I think putting in the time and work to train earned you the right too...I can't even imagine training for a race and injuring myself on the last run...heartbreaking!

I 100% agree... you finished, you earned it!!! Hang that medal with pride!

And Cripey - your outfit is ADORABLE!! I love it!!

I injured my leg right before the January half on my last training run. I limped the entire race... I made it to the medical tent before the magic kingdom. Thought about stopping.. said oh, I'll at least make it through the MK. By the time I was out of there.. It was mile 7. What the heck, I can finish that.. So I did.

I finished within the time limit.. just barely. As I crossed over the bridge heading into EPCOT I looked back and there were still thousands of people behind me ... as far as I could see. So being swept wasn't an issue.

But after I got the medal I wouldn't wear it. Didn't feel like I earned that right.. But I kept it!

You rightfully earned it. Be proud of yourself.

Is the MNSSHP free or you have to pay for the extra ticket along with i guess a pass from the marathon in order to get in at 4pm? Not so sure how that works.

Disney free? HA HA

No, It is a seperate event from the race weekend. It's a hard ticket event, which means the park closes and you have to get back in on the special ticket. But you can get in eariler than the event.. I think 4:00 PM.

As far as the not wearing the medal.. It's probable just a guy thing.. It was hard after doing all the training to come up injured and limp to a 3:19:29. I did enjoy congratulating everyone wearing their medals the next day. I didn't wear the medal after last year's wine and dine either... I didn't train for that one at all, other than walks with the dog.. Long walks. The time for that race was 2:56:42.

If I come close to 2:30.. I'll finally wear the medal.. :)

Haha, I'll be really, really lucky if my time is 2:56, and I've been training!! :cutie:

I am for meeting everyone at DTD on Friday night. Maybe at the Ghirardelli place or Wolfgang Puck Express. I believe there are 2 Express there.

Yesterday i jogged 10 miles around Stone Mountain. I felt good until my 4 mile when my right knee hurts. It wasn't too bad but i sucked it up and kept on going. My average time per mile is 10:13. 2 more weeks until the race, i am thinking i should go light from now on cause i dont want have an injury on race day. That would be a bummer. Does anyone know how does GU compared to Cliff energy? I took a gu at 5 miles. Good luck to all that is training.

If you jogged for 10 miles at a 10:13 pace .. That's AWESOME!

You should be good to still go long distance through this coming weekend. BUT.. Your knee pain doesn't sound good. Be careful!

I think everyone should be happy to finish the race.. Heck, I think everyone is a winner just for starting the race.

The people that amaze me are the walkers that never break pace. I started and finished last year with two women who never broke their walking pace of sub 14. I started the race beind them... and then I started my run/walk pace.. and I caught up to them on the boardwalk in front of the Beach club. I don't know where they passed me.. but they did! They were impressive!

I think what SO many runners are not aware of is the ease of walking because there is almost no harsh impact on the body that you get from running or jogging. I walked with DW at Disneyland last week and finished with a 3:36:55 and Yes I wore the C2C Medal and the 1/2 Medal with pride.

Today I got out and WALKED a 13.12 miler here in El Paso in a time of 2:19:47 which is 13 minutes slower than my best to date. Just saying that with all the hype about RUNNING I think many people are missing out on faster times with fewer injuries by walking.

Walking fast is a great workout, and sure is fun when you pass all those runners.

Good luck to all in a few weeks.

BTW, I will miss anchoring this year's W&D Relay with DW like last year but our DD will take over the 4.8 and DW will be doing the 8.3. At least one of us will be eligible for a Legacy status in the future if there is one.

Hmm...I didn't receive an e-mail with the waiver. I checked both of my e-mail addresses and spam folders...
Should I have received the half and kids race e-mails by now?
Oh wait, my DH got his, so I was able to figure it out.
My bib # is 3939. How cool is that? I like it.

As for speed, I am disappointed that I probably won't be improving on my time from my first half. While I've put in all the training, strengthened everything my physical therapist wanted stronger, and done run/walk - I still can't get rid of my hip and knee issues. :( I'd like to finish in less than 2:40, but it probably won't happen. I'm trying to focus on getting my money's worth and not worrying about time, but I'm such a numbers person that this is hard for me.
DH will be in an earlier corral and finish almost an hour before me, so maybe I should plan to meet up with others at the after party, since he'll probably be ready to leave by the time I finish!

Thank you so much - I needed this today! I must have been posting my knee pain lament at the same time. I've figured out that I'm a pretty good speed walker, so I'll be working on my walk form and sprinkling in a lot less running than I usually would so that I can make it through the 13.1 and still have a good time.

got back to training today......did an hour on the treadmill.....25 minute run, 5 minute walk, 25 minute run, 5 minute walk. what amazed me so much, rather annoyingly, was that my pace today was 11 minute mile.....which was my average for the disasterous 5k last weekend, which i finished in 34:56. when i started my 2nd running session, I was barely a 2 miles!! it seemed like i was slower, despite running the whole time. obviously i need to work on pacing myself better during the big events.

I too would like to say THANKS for this post. Considering the recommendation I received from the orthopedic doctor today, I may be doing a lot more walking than jogging for this 1/2 marathon. It's never a good thing when the doctor says "Do you really like running?".....

In any event, I am going to concentrate on finishing this dang race, even if I have to walk the entire way.... knee brace and all...

I think my time for the 10 mile was 1:42:52 according to run keeper but i dont know how accurate that is. Its the hills that is killing me during the jog.

The trainer I've been working with recommends a sports/deep tissue massage 48-24 hours before the event. Massage therapy is the only reason I've been able to continue running. Last week I was tripped and knocked down by a large dog while running. By the next day, I could hardly walk with my knee barking loudly. It was not a restful hour as she worked on the muscles in my legs an IT band , but that evening I was able to run 3 miles and yesterday ran an 8K race that include 4 bridges (Northern FL hills) with my best time.

Great time for the 10 miles.

Some pages back there was talk about how to carry a camera and a phone. I highly recommend the double pouch iFitness belt. I carry my iphone in one side (along with my id, etc, in a small inner pocket) and my camera on the other. iFitness will be at the Expo so you can check it out. I own a Spibelt and a Fuelbelt and my iFitness belt is by far my favorite. I bought mine at the January WDW Expo this year.

It was cheaper at the Expo than it is online.
