Official 2011 Wine & Dine Half and Relay Thread

IMO DTD is the most convenient for a meet. Otherwise people staying at resorts need to go to DTD or a theme park to get to the second resort if they didn't rent/have their own car.

Hi all!

I am also staying at Port Orleans French Quarter. I am pretty sure I am going to drag my hubby to MNSSHP Friday night, but I would be up for a meet anytime, anywhere on Friday or Saturday. At the expo, or maybe Downtown Disney?

Take care of yourself . DH and I are staying at POFQ also. We aren't going to MNSSHP as I went last year and we won't have any little people with us.

Anyone else running in a race this weekend in honor of 9/11? I'm running the Believe in Heroes 8K Sunday in Jacksonville FL. Hopefully the cool temps we've had this week minus the smoke from the forest fires will continue until Sunday:)

Massage therapy is a powerful tool in helping to prevent injuries and prepare you for long runs. I usually have one a day or two prior to any race. In training for the 1/2, my body revolted in going much further than 7 miles. For the past few weeks, I've had one the day prior to my long runs. It seems like a luxury, but considering the cost of an injury...

At night - yes. In the morning... NO! They only run buses to DTD in the morning. Regular bus service FROM there doesn't start until 11:00 AM.

Which is a pain because Wolfgang Puck Express is my favorite quick serve breakfast on property.

How early were you planning a meet? With the timing of the 5K and ½ it makes it somewhat difficult to get a time that works for everyone.

Sorry.. I wasn't trying to say a time. I was only try to share information.

I'm solo for the weekend so my schedule is pretty free. (although I do hate eating by myself in Disney.. so if it was set up around food...)

Last year I recall a couple of meets. One was at Boma for dinner. That's the one I went to. But Boma's quality has been slipping with each visit. (And that defeats the purpose of DTD.)

Friday might be a better day, too. With the 5K in the morning and the ½ at night, people's regular dining patterns will be out of whack. As you said, your dinner on Saturday will be around 3:30. I'm aiming for mine around 5:30. Saturday is also the 40th anniversary of WDW's MK and some folks might be planning on attending that.

Hi all!

There IS Photopass during the run, is there not? I will probably take advantage of that if so.

In other news, I think I have injured a groin muscle, and based on some reading I have done and what a physical therapist has said, I might be in some trouble for the W&D. I am still totally doing it, but my training between now and then might be limited and that sucks. I am now officially concerned, and a little upset. :sad1:

There were no photographers at the character spots. They had them at the finish line, Osborne Lights and probably a few other places that I didn't see.

I highly recommend to go get a deep tissue massage for your groin injury. I have had groin muscle issues before and the last time I went to get a Pfrimmer deep muscle massage and I was able to get back to running so much faster. I think it will help speed up your heeling. I will warn you that it may not be the most comfortable massage when it is being done, but the effects afterward are much greater than a normal massage.

It seems like a few people are going to MNSSH that night. I would be up for monorail resort area meet before they have to go in. Maybe a dinner. I went to O'hanna's last year and got a walk up. I think because the food and wine has a lot of people in EPCOT.

Wolf Gang Puck Express is my favorite too. BTW. i think i will have to look for a place to stay out from the disney resort area. I think it may be cheaper that way.

Staying off property is most certainly less expensive, at least at first glance. You don't have as a reliable form of transportation (unless you rent a car) off property.

The food at the All stars is so bad compared even to Pop. It's a shame they are the only value with transportation.

when I was there for Marathon weekend in January I saw the Food Court at POFQ had a special "runner's meal" the night before the race. I was hoping Sports would have something like that too. I'll admit......i'm not usually a disciplined eater when it comes to races, since I only run 3-5 miles. so if all i can find is a chicken breast and rice....i'll be good with that.

Hey everyone,

So exciting to read this thread and here some of these last minute planning details... race day will be here before we know it!

We are staying at AllStar Music... my plan for dinner right now is to have their Chicken with pasta, I've been eating it at home each night before my long walk and so far, so good... just hoping they don't make it too grease-laden. Definitely makes it a challenge to follow the 'don't do anything different on race day' rule...

Carey - So sorry to read about your injury, I hope it doesn't impact you too much and you're able to push through. Will definitely be thinking of you!

So I did my longest walk to date last night - 10 miles.... pace was good, but my heel issues flare up like crazy after them. They resolve within the next day, so I'm hoping I'm not doing any long term damage. So if you see a goofball walking around after the race with a cane, that will be me! Probably will be the only way I'll make it around the party after!

Keep it up everyone! :cheer2:

I'm #8277... even more WAY in the back. :)

Speaking of which, anyone know how many people they allowed in the half? I'm assuming my corral is the last?

I'm #8853, and this is my first time running any kind of race! I'm getting very nervous about the whole thing now, especially since my training has slacked for various health/injury/flood issues over the past few weeks

I've been lurking on this board for a while, and would love to know if anyone is running alone all the way in the back (like me)...

I'm a bit confused on where exactly the race finishes. It seems to finish inside Epcot so only people with the Finish Line Party are able to be there. So that means my hubby and DD can't see me finish, is that correct?

I could care less about the after party, so I will just want to find my family.

Where is the best place for them to be to see me as close to the finish as possible? Also where should I tell them to meet me? I really did not want to carry my iphone since I will be carrying a small camera (need those photo ops....LOL).

Can someone help, this is freaking me out a bit. At the Princess they were there right at the finish line, it was so nice!

8668 here. Will be in the back of the pack for sure. Actually wondering if I will finish. Will be 13 weeks pregnant. I know I could do it if it weren't for fear of being swept! My DH is also running and he's having knee problems. He's normally way faster than me, but I have gotten the mileage in and he hasn't. We may end up together! We can't train together b/c of kids. . .

We were gonna do dinner in DTD Friday night, so curious as to whether a meet will develop.

According to the Offical Race Program on the Disney website, the finish is at the taxi lot in the front of EPCOT. That would lead me to believe it is outside the gates of the park itself. If you do a quick look on Google Maps, it makes a perfect place for them to set up the finish line, distribute medals, have the bag check, etc.

So I *think* anyone will be able to see you finish and will not need a park ticket.

The race will finish in the parking lot, not inside the park. I've ever heard of actually finishes inside one of the parks. They might have in the past but no longer.

Anybody know any information on the Finish Line Party Tickets? My wife wants to maybe go and we will have our 3 1/2 year old daughter with her. Does she need a ticket or what?
