Official 2011 Wine & Dine Half and Relay Thread

Got my third 5K in yesterday. My son and I even placed, woo hoo. We both beat our previous times by over 5 minutes so that was awesome. I still can't imagine doing that run 3 more times, but I'm getting there!

That is awesome!! congratulations :thumbsup2

I like pink, that is a good point thought about the guys not liking pink. Wont hurt to see how many gentleman are interested first before we decide? (I look good in pink though, just sayin :))

Thank you for all the quick replies. :goodvibes:goodvibes I think the W&D rate at the BWI is $100+ per night more than Dolphin. But I would love to stay there someday. It really is close when you take the bridge over to BWI. A great way to get to the Expo buses too. I have a nurse rate at the Dolphin, so it is a pretty good deal.
I love to have a Disney trip to look forward too. Best wishes to everyone as they work thru their training programs.

Not sure about hot pink, but a pink is good with me, i like all shades really, just hot pink may not look as good on me and I may not wear it outside the race if it were hot pink, but loving the pink idea, just share your ideas or plans, i will probably like it considering pink and blue are my favorite colors respectively. But don't get too concerned about the shirt that you forget to train. ;)

Congratulations. That first age group award feels pretty good and so does a PR.

Keep in mind that when you start a longer distance race both your mindset and your pace will be different. I felt the same way after finishing my first half, I can't imagine turning around and running this again. But when you start the race expecting to do 26.2 instead of 13.1 it doesn't feel the same. I think it is the same going from a 5K to a 10K or a 10K to a half. It is mentally hard to expect to run 3 miles and then envisioning running longer.

I'm not sure if that made any sense, it is hard to get that thought into words let along writing.

I was planning on driving up Saturday morning for the Expo that day, but then today I read this:

Is Packet Pick-Up available the morning of the race?
No, all race packets must be picked up at the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Expo.

Anyone with any info about this? Why have a Saturday morning Expo if I cannot pick up my packet then?

I would think that you can pick-it up at the Expo on Saturday, but not at the start line that day. Since the Expo runs for two days I would assume you can pick up your packet either day.

What they mean is you can't get your 5K packet Saturday morning, you have to get it ahead of time. You can get your half marathon packet Saturday morning as the race isn't until the evening.

The same is true for marathon weekend. There is an expo Friday and Saturday but if you are running the 5K you can't go Friday to get the packet, you have to go Thursday and if you are running the half you can't go Saturday to get the packet, you have to go Thursday or Friday.

That is so true. When you're a beginner it's hard to understand but once you do the longer race you get it.

I think is was even simpler... it's a cut and paste error! You can pick your packet for the W&D half as late as 4 PM AT the expo. For the longer races you must pick up your packet at the expo and not at the race.

It occurs to me that since PINK is a chick color, it is perfectly reasonable to have a BLUE or GREEN or some other boy color for the gents running. Thoughts from you males?

I hope to have a concept picture with colors soon.

Seems to me that the original green of the WISH shirt is in order. WISH has its race color that is recognizable from a distance. You are looking to be seen and recognized by folks from a crowd. It's not too different from Team in Training's purple or the Joints in Motions (not so bright) green. Changing colors for a one race shirt does differentiate the shirt from the regular shirt, but it also dilutes the brand. Look at folks in a race and you spot the WISH and TNT shirts from a distance. Look closely at the TNT jersey and you see that there are differing designs for each chapter. I would vote for preserving the brand and keeping the one off race shirt the same color.

I have no problem with a pink shirt, i actually would like one. As i said before pink is my favorite color, though not sure about other guys. I do think it should be one color so seeing or recognizing someone can be easier as its the color, plus being a night race, you want a shirt that is seen easier. But I vote yes for the pink shirt, looking forward to the design.

Another guy that has no issues with a pink shirt; heck, I've already got some shirts that make a bottle of pepto-bismol look pale. :)

That being said, I'm to the point where cotton is a no-go for any shirt I wear while running. If its a Dri-FIT/Under Armour style material, I'd be game...otherwise, I'll take a pass.

I agree, I would love to see a performance material vs. a cotton.

Corral Question
I am running the 1/2 with my sister. My husband and brother in law will do the relay. Does anyone know if there are separate corrals for the relay runners? Can anyone share their experience for the relay hand off- I am wondering how you find your relay partner quickly. Thanks for any info you can share :)

Same corrals.

Hi all -

So regarding this shirt issue... I've given it some thought and I think that:

a) It will definitely be a Dri-FIT style running shirt, probably short or sleeveless. NO t-shirts. Ew.

b) It will be pink. Hot pink. Neon Pink. Blazing Pink! Ok, not that pink, but a noticeable pink.

c) I don't want a shirt that has anything to do with WISH. Rephrase: I want a WISH shirt. I also want a W&D shirt. MY W&D shirt, designed by MY honey. The two are separate from each other. Plus, I want to identify YOU lovely thread peeps that also decide to order and wear said W&D shirt so that I may crush each of you with a hug prior to the race. If I see some random WISH shirt worn by a stranger, I might offer a thumbs up, but not a hug. That would just be weird. So no WISH logos and no lime green.

d) I want to incorporate Mickey ears, but I don't want to get sued, tackled, or otherwise in trouble with the Mouse. Think I should chance it? Or stay away from any possible Disney-esq graphics whatsoever?

OK, now a COMPLETELY different question - I read somewhere from someone who ran some other Disney race that you could shed your outer clothing (say, a warm but unwanted sweatshirt) just prior to the race and leave it in your corral and Disney donates all those clothes to charity. And I don't mean they 'clean up' after the idiots that decide to strip down and have no place to put clothes and don't care - I mean that Disney specifically encourages shedding your outer clothes because they LIKE to donate and this is a fun little way to do it. Does anyone have any experience with this? Am I talking crazy or is there some truth to this? I ask because if I am nervous (which I anticipate), and thus get the shivers (which I also anticipate), I could combat this by wearing a sweatshirt just prior to the race which I then remove and toss into the ether never to be seen again (i.e. donate it), OR I work out some way to wear a jacket or something that I actually like and IF I shed it, am then able to get it back later. Does this make sense? Anyone have any thoughts on this?
