Official 2011 Wine & Dine Half and Relay Thread

It's official; the wife has made a liar out of me. ;) I always said that I'd never run more than 5 miles...and even then only if I was running from the cops or hit men. pirate:

That is, until we registered yesterday. Guess I'm really pot committed now. :) Time to start the training.

I'm in the same boat!!!

Welcome to the world of running...it's been friendly so far.

I apologize, but I have another question (can you tell I'm a newbie with this????) I had been thinking of joining Team in Training, but then I changed my mind. Can I still join the race without being a member of a team that's raising money for a charity? Or do I have to join a team?

Thanks!

As long as the registration is open, you can run on your own--without benefiting a charity.

G'day all.
I'm coming to play. I am entered in the Half Marathon and a fun filled vacation in celebration of my "noughty" birthday this year. I have a scary one coming up and I wanted to celebrate in a big way.
We are travelling all the way from Melbourne, Australia:cheer2:
I'm having so much fun planning that I'm almost forgetting to train:yay:
My goal for the race.....smile the whole way and have a blast:mickeyjum

Signed up Saturday for the relay with my husband! Glad not to have to do the whole 13 miles and have enough energy for the after party. I started the galloway half walk/run plan a few weeks ago and have a 5k this weekend. Should I try using the 1 min walk/run though I am only up to 26 min on the plan? Or just do my own thing and walk/run when I feel like I can?

A friendly heads up from a friend scoping airfare for the trip:

Don't know if anyone still needs airfare for the trip. JetBlue is having a promotion today only (Thursday April 21st).

Take 20% off your next flight with promo code FALL2011

You must book today for travel between September 7 and October 29.

Unfortunately, Jet Blue doesn't fly out of my area. Hope it helps someone though!

This actually sealed the deal for me this morning. I saw the JetBlue sale and booked for September 30-October 3 for just the hubby and I. Our 10th anniversary is on October 6, so this will be our present to each other. I am definitely running, but now I am trying to convince my DH (who hates running) to do it with me for my birthday present (Oct 8) I offered him the relay option too, but I am really hoping he just opts to do it all with me. I told him I would do minimal running and just go slow for him. I am REALLY excited!

::waves shyly::

Hi everyone!

This is my first marathon - signed up, no backing out now. :rotfl: I've always wanted to run a Disney marathon and now that I've lost 108 pounds I figured it was time to get this party started!

How often do each of you run during the week?

Right now I'm just running twice a week, but I also attend a fitness bootcamp class twice a week that mixes strength and cardio training. Once my 16 week training plan starts for the race, I drop down to 1 bootcamp per week and run 3 times per week. The last 4 weeks of training I drop the bootcamp class, still run 3 times per week, and get as much rest as possible!

DH agreed to do the whole half marathon with me! I am over the moon excited. I never thought I would see the day I could get him to run. So now I have to get him trained! I cannot wait!

I wonder if I could get a run of T-shirts that simply state 'My Wife Made Me Do This'.

Hrm... :rolleyes1

I signed up (for the relay)! Hooray :cool1:

But I got a receipt from Active, but not a link to buy the discounted tickets? I read the past pages and saw some people had a link at the bottom of their email? I definitely do not...I have a link to view my receipt, but that is it.

I may not even buy them that way, I am hoping free dining will come available for that weekend... but I want to at least check out all my options..

Does anyone have any insight on the ticket thing...

Thank you!

He all. I'm signed up for the Disneyland Half marathon and was looking at the RunDisney.com I found some information that may be of use to the people over here. The training plans for Both the Disneyland half, and the W&D half are online. If you're thinking about doing Galloway, I would look at both sets of plans. The W&D plan is slightly different from his standard plan to allow running the Disneyland half.

I noticed that the Wine & Dine hit the 50% full mark this weekend. Our rooms are booked, but we haven't registered yet...guess I better get to that!

Has anyone heard anything with regards to the after party tickets? On the website it says that friends and family will be able to buy them for a limited time in April...well, it's almost May.
Just want to make sure that window wasn't open and I missed it!

I'd like to know too :confused3

I don't think we missed it. At least I hope not! I haven't seen anything else about it so I'm assuming they're just really putting a lot of thought into how many tickets they want to make available :confused3
