Official 2011 Wine & Dine Half and Relay Thread

Talk to me about what you are bringing/wearing to the marathon. I see that there will be drink and snack stations, but I am thinking of getting a fuel belt to wear to carry stuff with me. Thoughts??

I think it just depends on what you are comfortable with, what your body needs, and when it needs it. Personally, I wear a belt. I train with it on every run so I don't even notice it's there anymore. I like to take a few sips at each mile marker and since there aren't that many water stops during the race, I will always wear my belt at the race so I can hydrate the way my body has become accustomed too. I also like to carry Jelly Belly sport beans in my belt's pouch in case I need a little boost in the second half. If you are thinking that you may need a belt for the race, I would suggest getting it now and training with it...don't wear one for the first time at the race!

I noticed that the Wine & Dine hit the 50% full mark this weekend. Our rooms are booked, but we haven't registered yet...guess I better get to that!

I imagine all the guys that were waiting to hear what the new race would be realized it wasn't for them and signed up for the W&D.

It's showing 55% now...I'll probably register next week. Also, for those that were wondering about it as well, I just sent an email inquiring about the after party spectator tickets that were supposed to be available to purchase this month. I'll let everyone know what I find out if I get a response.

Thank you!!!! :)

I don't think we missed it. At least I hope not! I haven't seen anything else about it so I'm assuming they're just really putting a lot of thought into how many tickets they want to make available :confused3
Didn't they say in April? If so, we should know in a few days.

Good news, we haven't missed the after-party ticket sale. Here's the response I reveived from my email to RunDisney:

They have not gone on sale at this time, we hope to have them up in the next week or two. Once they are on sale the information about the party will be available on the website.
Thanks,
Run Disney

I'm sure we'll all be keeping and eye out and can report back here if anyone gets notice that they are on sale.

I have not carried my own water with me for a race. I felt like Disney had enough water stops for me. I do wear a tiny belt with some sport beans. It really depends on what you're used to and if you think the race organizers will have enough stops for your comfort level.

For anyone that did the Wine & Dine last year, do you remember how much after-party tickets were then...just to get a ball park of what they might cost this year?

I want to say they were $35 each.

I've been waiting for Disney to begin the after party ticket sales. They claim April is when sales will begin but nothing yet.

We've secured our sitter for DD, since DH and I are both doing the race. (Thanks to my folks for planning a WDW trip with us!) :grouphug:
The training plan is up, I started making ADRs - I'm getting really excited for this race!

Hi everyone!

I thought I would jump in and say hello, as I have officially decided to run the half! I am really looking forward to it - I have been training for a running event for over a year now, but haven't actually done any races so I am excited for this to my first experience.

In April of 2010 I started walk/jogging with no athletic experience, really. A two mile course at about a 15 minute mile every few days was challanging for me. I am now up to a 7 mile run every other day with a 10 to 11 minute average mile, with a 3-4 mile easy jog (at about a 12-13 minute mile) occasionally in between on my 'non-run' days. I have lost 75 lbs, have gone from a size 18 to a size 6 (I just bought a size XS shirt and it fits!!), and my heart beats 20 beats per minute less than it used to. I have also maintained a diet of between 1200 and 1600 caleries a day for the last year, if anyone is interested. I LOVE RUNNING!!!

I hope to lose another 20 lbs total (which I suspect I will accomplish by October) and I am REALLY EXCITED about the Wine & Dine Half. I am also a little nervous. I will be running by myself but would love to 'virtually meet' some of you through disboards so we can cheer each other on leading up to the event.

YAY!!

Congratulations on all your success, Carey!! And good for you, signing up for this race. I'm sure it will be a fun one for you. :D

Hi Everybody -
I registered for the Half Relay today...Running leg 1 through ESPN WWoS and AK. I might sign up for the morning 5K run, but not sure about that yet. See you all in October!
