Official 2011 Wine & Dine Half and Relay Thread

I also just registered for the half. I will register later for the 5k. It will be interesting to run that late at night since I am a morning runner.
Now the airplane tickets are bought (I must say it is a lot cheaper flying from the United States than Canada) hotel is booked, what else is there to do.
Oups training for the race :upsidedow.

Can anyone tell me if it would be huge hassle to stay at Saratoga Springs? All other DVC resorts are booked. I'm thinking I'll have to take a cab back after the race, but are there any other obstacles to staying there that anyone can think of?

Thanks! :)

We stayed at OKW last year. We rented a car, parked at Epcot and took the bus from the Boardwalk (host hotel) to the start. It was not an issue. As long as you are okay with taking a cab back, you should be okay.

I'm officially registered. Got my time off at the store approved and registered yesterday. I'm booked at BWV!!! I'm considering the 5K too, but after last year, I'm going to try to rest as much as possible during the day before the race.

We're staying at a non-host as well and will not have a rental car. We'll probably take our resort's normal bus to Epcot and walk to the busses from there that are taking runners to the start...then get a cab after the race & after party. That was the suggested plan by a couple of others here so I'm sure it's a good one!
I haven't registered yet! Had a few unexpected things come up in the last couple of weeks, so I think I'm going to have to register after the first price increase. At least it's just $10....oh well! :sad2:

Yeah, me too. :(

I haven't registered either....my husband says I have to wait until I run my 5K, which is 6/4!! Will the race fill up by then?

I'd say probably not...the last time I checked the page, they weren't even showing a percentage full number yet, which I think they start when it's 50% full. I read and heard alot of complaints about last year's race, so that may have an effect on this year's attendance...also heard that runDisney seems to be making an effort to fix the 1st year's problems though...here's hoping! Your 5k isn't too far off, so you should be ok...if you're really worried about it, you could just try to check back every couple of weeks or so and keep and eye on the % full number if it's showing. Maybe there will be a little registration surge this weekend because of the price increase on monday.

Does anyone know if you can change who your relay partner is? My cousin is feeling some anxiety about committing to run (she's never left her kids before, for more than one night) and join our Girls Weekend...

But I want to sign up today before the price goes up.. If I found another partner later, could I change her name on our sign up?

Thanks in advance for any help on this!

PS: I am at work and don't have time to read the whole thread, I did do a quick search of it, 'change partner' but got no response...so please excuse me if its answered two pages before now!!

I don't think I've read anything that spcifically addresses that, but my guess would be no. I know when registering for the half there's always the non-refundable, non-transferable stuff, so I would assume it would be the same for the relay. There is sort of a way around it though. If your cousin registers, drops out, and you get a replacement, that person can run under your cousin's name. Now, I know you're not "supposed" to do it, but I've done it for a 5k before at DL. Before you leave for your trip, print your cousin's waiver and the separate release form that gives you permission to pick up her race packet for her...have her sign them and give you a copy of her photo i.d....then you pick up her stuff at the expo and your replacement runner can run with her number and d-tag....as long as he/she doesn't mind having someone else's name on their bib. I ran as "Jake" at the DL 5k last year :) Another thing to consider is that this person would not be able to use this race as proof of time for another race in the future since they are running as someone else. Again, Disney doesn't condone this, but there's really not a way for them to police it that I know of...and it's done all the time...especially when races sell out. I found tons of boards last year with "wanted" and "for sale" posts for races that are non-transferable.

On the race's website, under the registration tab (here's the link) about halfway down the page there is a heading for info about changing your team. You would have to fill out a request form but it looks like they make it pretty easy.

Butiflfleet - Thank you so much, I looked there and my eyes must have gone right over it!

Cripey - Thank you, that is good to know for the future... I hope you did "Jake" proud! :)

I'll be doing the half and staying at OKW. The great thing is I'll be running the race with friends and a large group of cheer friends. I'm looking forward to the new friends I will be making.

Does anyone know how many tickets you get to the after race party? My brother is running and I will have his three kids, just wondering how many of us will be able to get in to the party with him. There are 13 in our Grand Gathering, but I am thinking about six of us would be up for the party. Thanks!

It is my understanding that admission to the after party is in included for those people who are participating in either the marathon, relay marathon or half marathon. Any additional tickets to the after party will have to be purchased. No word on when these tickets will be released or the cost of each ticket.

I think it was $35 last year.

Hi all! I'm thinking about signing up for the 1/2 marathon on October 1st. Not only is it my 26th birthday, but I would be in the race to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

So my question is this: is it too late for me to start training? I'm not a runner at all, and I'm more looking to walk the race than anything else? Am I crazy or can I really do this? Is this a possibility? Thanks!

I think most of the training programs have a 20 week training span. Last year's Wine & Dine was my first race. I did not train as much as I should have and ended up walk/jogging more than running. Finished with a time of 3:17.

We're what, about 23 weeks out? To be completely honest, I'm not looking to have a fantastic finishing time, I'm looking to just finish without being picked up by the "you're too slow!" people. I feel like, if I stay motivated and train really well, I'll be able to do this? Again, am I crazy?

Not crazy at all. You can do it. And the great folks here on the WISH board can help you stay motivated and help with any questions or concerns you may have. Also helps you get through the bad days, too.

You can do it!!!!
