Official 2011 Wine & Dine Half and Relay Thread

I haven't gotten anything via snail mail, but I did get an email on July 15th that included a link to the "2011 Race Program". You should check this out, the link is on the right side of the email. If you click on it, a pdf file will open. It was a very detailed explanation of the race and I found it very helpful since this will be my first time participating. It had a lot of tips from Jeff Galloway about how to plan your weekend, including race day itself. Also included a map of the route and lots of details on getting to and from the race, dropping off your bag, etc.

I haven't received any waivers yet, but the July 15th email says to watch for them in the next email they send. The email is from this sender: "Disney Sports Attractions" rundisney @ email.mydisneyparks.com

I hope this helps!

We are getting so close! If anyone needs a partner for the 1/2 Relay let me know! My training for the princess has been going great and I would love to try it. :thumbsup2

Um...i think it's 29apr00 there too.

I'm not seeing you on the website. Have you ever looked at you history on the runkeeper website? Once you save your activity, the website keeps track of your history. The fitness reports alone are worth the trouble of setting up your profile.

Hmmm.... I'm kind of peeved that we won't be getting the official program in a hardcopy... after spending $$$$. I found the pdf file, and like you mentioned lazyowl, I loved the great info, particularly the training tips and handling a night race. Really great tips! One of those was about doing at least two training runs in the last few months after 10 pm.... happy to report that I made it out tonight, starting at 10:30p, and put in a 6 miler. Only 7.1 to go... LOL

I'm still behind with my training bcs of an heel pain issue that sidelined me this summer, but I'm now hopeful that I might actually be able to catch up. :thumbsup2

You won't get one mailed to you but there are hard copies at the expo. I've gotten one for every race I've done down there.

Of course this can be stopped at any time but so far so good.

I really want to do a night run too to prepare. I'm quite nervous about running in the evening because I feel like my runs in the early morning are way better, I just seem to have more energy and my body hurts less, even though I am NOT a morning person at all...I'm also unsure about how much or how little I'll need to eat on race day to avoid having crampy issues during the race, or feeling light headed and getting low blood sugar.

I'm just not sure when I'll be able to get a night run in, and I'm sort of paranoid running by myself that late. My husband told me he'd come out with me for my night time practice long run, but I don't really think he'll be able to go for that long of a distance with me haha. Is it worth if I just do like a 6 mile or so night run as practice or is that not a good enough simulation of the real thing?

Got my 8 mile long run done on Saturday. Long runs to go: 9, 10, 11, 12, 8, W&D. Less than 6 weeks left!

When I trained for last years W&D I did my two longest training runs at night. Those were great runs!! I thought I'd feel tired and awful but yeah, they were awesome. I'm definitely doing some long runs outside at night this time too.

Doing nighttime training runs will help with deciding how to fuel, too. I had a hard time with this last year. Last year I ate my last big meal way too early...it was around 2:30ish. This year I'm eating a few hours later than that. I have enough experience now to know that I am not typical when it comes to pre race fueling...I seem to need more right before a race than others.

So excited! Glad there is the DL 1/2 to get my fix soon though. I haven't had a race since February!

Can anyone confirm the discount on the MNSSHP tickets as a wine and dine participant? I believe that I saw a discounted price for tickets purchased at the expo, but I can't seem to find it again. I am an annual pass holder and I think those will be cheaper, but I just wanted to double check.

I called them yesterday and I was told there is NO discount on the MNSSHP tickets :sad2:

I concur - we get deals on hotels and park tickets (which my crew of 6 is taking advantage of and it is turning out WAY cheaper than any other options - and I am the only one of us running), and we get access to the after party, but we do NOT get any discounts on MSSSHP.

Still, I am thinking of doing it, but only because my specific vacation includes just Friday and Saturday in the parks because Sunday we leave for a week long cruise and I think my party wants to do AK one day and HS the other day and EPCOT for the after party which completely leaves out MK and I don't know if I can stand for that. You might wonder "with park hoppers what difference does it make?", but alas we didn't buy park hoppers because we weren't thinking straight. Especially now that I realize park hoppers are a meager $20 difference for two days. I am kicking myself.

So maybe we do MSSSHP Friday night to cover all the parks. The only question is if I can rambo that many parks/rides/miles of walking and experiencing Disney before the W&D run without collapsing, remembering that I am NOT used to the heat of Florida (60s and rain is perfect for me - I am from Oregon after all) and I don't want to kill myself before boarding a cruise ship for a week. The one thing I have in my favor is a 10 PM (ish) run start time is only 7 PM for me, which is right around when I start my runs at home anyways.

Speaking of, how is everyone doing? I've managed a few 8 milers this week already. Probably will do a short run and weights at the gym this evening since its like 90 degrees outside. Yuck.

Now, see if we could get a space between us, we could be a team!
I'll be at POR, I see you'll be at POFQ!

My training sched calls for 14k (~8.5 miles) that day, if I don't manage to fill someone's spot for the relay, I'll be looking to get some distance in at WDW around the resorts I guess!

Did a long run of 12.5 miles this week, went just ok. Found out I do much better by not eating beforehand. Did get a pain in my foot that made the last 4 miles not really fun. Hope everyone is having luck getting their training in. Not sure I'm going to be able to get a long run in at night before the race, will just hope the excitement of my first 1/2 will get me through

Jennifer

I just did my last run before the DL race, I have only had time training at night. I did 6 miles in 47 minutes, so I'm training to improve my speed right now during the humidity of the summer in Florida. My longest training run so far is 21 miles, but also getting ready for Goofy. I'm super excited for this race, not only do I get to run, but it's Food and Wine Festival returning. Only bad thing about that is that I lose about $100 every week, well more spend at F&W. I am already planning my outfit, which will probably just be a pink tech shirt I got and wore at the Princess race. I'm debating on whether to have my gf bring my medals from the previous rundisney races this year to get a picture after the race with the five medals (Donald, Princess, DL, C2C, and F&W) I think it would make a cool picture and complete my effort to do every race weekend. I also did Everest and ESPN but I feel keeping the 1/2 marathon disney circuit limit is something cool to have in a picture. Anyone else start thinking of their outfit? I felt pink is appropriate since that was the color of the shirt that was proposed.

Wow Danhockey04! If I had raced all those Disney races in a year I would absolutely want my picture taken with all the medals! I'd say you're definitely prepared for this race :thumbsup2

I have been feeling kind of achey and tired all week and I've only done a 5 mile and 6 mile run so far. I'm hoping I can get myself to do at least 5 tomorrow. Last Saturday DH and I ran 11.5 miles before going to a wedding that night and I think that took a lot out of me.

Anyone have any ideas for what to carry my iPhone in during the race? I guess I could put it in my bag with the rest of my stuff but I'd feel better about having it with me. On training runs I usually just have my garmin watch and if its a long run I carry a water bottle with a pouch for my gummies strapped around my hand. Any ideas?

I have a SpiBelt for my iPhone when I run and I LOVE it!

I just got my final race instruction email with a link to print the waiver!!!
