Official 2011 Princess Half Thread Part II!!!

Just finished my last long run before the Half. I set out to do 12 miles and I did 13.25. Furthest I have ever ran. I feel great. I am officially tapering, yay!:woohoo:

I'm glad I'm not the only one who suffers through the first couple of miles! It takes me a little bit to get into my groove, and then I feel like I could run forever. I'm nervous about this race though because I plan to start out faster and ease up once I get close to MK. I'm hoping to get ahead of some of the longer lines for characters and still finish under 2:30 hours which is 10 minutes slower than my first 1/2 marathon time.

I keep picking up throw away zip up hoodie type sweatshirts on sale when I see them for less than $5, but have yet to figure out bottoms. I might do the blanket idea if I can find one cheap on clearance somewhere.

My ankles always hurt for the first 2 miles, then suddenly at mile three I feel fine. I'm guessing I don't warm up properly (or at all...:rolleyes1)

I like the robe idea. I just usually take a long coat i don't wear anymore to toss but not bringing to Fl. I am going to my sisters near Sarasota 2/20 and plan to visit a thrift store for throwaway coat... Unless i see a big fluffy robe in Walmart.

We've been iced and then snowed in since last Tuesday (I'm not complaining. STAYCATION!!), so the LR on Saturday was dreadmill-bound. 9 miles. I was really...uh, dreading...it, but I made it through. (Previous TM best was 6 miles.)

Stupid TM has an auto cut-off at 60 minutes--thankfully Hubby warned me--so I had to chop the run into two 4.5m segments to make sure it didn't lurch to a halt beneath me.

Ran the first and last 2 miles at training pace and the the "middle" 5 at a higher pace. Stuck to my intervals, manually--what a pain! Raise the speed. 4minutes. Lower the speed. 1 minute. And repeat. And repeat.

I was pleased that I didn't have any cardio or muscle issues with the higher pace. The TM was very bouncy, felt unstable, though, so I was ping-ponging between the side rails a bit and my knees enjoyed the TM less than they do ashpalt or concrete. Odd, no?

This was more of a mental struggle than physical, though. No change of scenery. The gym was hot. Having to manage my intervals manually meant I was constantly clock-watching and so could never just lose myself in the run.

I've really been quite underwhelmed by this facility and staff in these last few visits. Contemplating a change. Hallelujah I can run outside most of the year.

All in all, I was pleased. Felt strong.

Hubby and I have been discussing things we want to do and see on this trip. Love the planning and anticipation!

Chime in, pls: Hubby and I are trying to decide if we should get an annual pass or just 7 day tickets.

Has anyone purchased the specially priced tickets through the runDisney site? Would you share the rate info? (We'd be looking at 7-day park Hoppers.)

My email was entered incorrectly from my registration form :headache: so I've never received emails re: the race, and I can't find the email to Hubby with the event code, so I can't even check prices tonight. (Hubby is out and about. There' something big sports event today...something called "Super Bowl"? ;) )

Thanks for any help!

Only 2 weekends between me and the Mouse! :stitch:

I too am hoping to just finish with a smile, but I don't have the excuse of a bad toe with a great disney nickname.

I just printed out my waiver, and am way back (in the 13,000s), so save some powrade and gu for me, all you in the front and middle of the pack. I guess it wouldn;t be a Disney race if i didn't get to wade through the discarded wrappers, cups, banana peels, etc. at the stops along the way.

So happy to see that I'm not the only 13,000er on this thread. I was beginning to think that I was in the wrong place. Oh well, as long as they don't run out of medals. :)

Have not purchased them but the quote price for 7 days with park hopper for 2 is $509.

My bib # is in the 8000s. So excited. Got it at work and just kept telling everyone how happy I was to not be in the last corrale. No one seemed impressed. :sad2: It's weird how much of my life has revolved around "wogging" and training for the last couple of months. I'm afraid that is all I talk about lately. All my coworkers will be happy when this is over. (Little do they know the next step will be training for a full in fall.)

This week was a complete waste. I did not get in any runs at all. I had to work extra. So last run was my LR last Sun. Guess that was my taper week :rotfl2:

I feel like it's all I talk about also. Between my training and begging people for donations, I'm sure people are sick of me. But no one realizes what a huge accomplishment this is for me. When I started training, I couldn't run for a minute straight. Yesterday I ran 10 miles. 10 freaking miles!!!

Congratulations on running the 10 miles!!!! That's fantastic!! Now you know for sure you can run 13!
What's your # ban26ana? I'm #7,609 My 21 yr.old son tells me to stop talking about running etc. & listen to his problems. Lol I do, but tell him it's give and take.

Tried out my new Nike compression underwear? under my jogging pants. I hated them! They were annoying and uncomfortable. My friend ran Disney Princess and said she was cold. She wore compression pants, and two layers on top. She runs 8 minute miles. So that wind she created, was tough. She wished she had worn a long sweatshirt.

I am wearing nike running pants the whole way
Nike v-neck tech shirt,
pink turtleneck warm shirt over that,
windbreaker,
men's polar tech throw-away zip up.
plastic poncho over all of that in case of rain.
fleece throw away blanket too.

I am always cold at a 40-45 degree mark. I need at least three layers to be comfortable. The windbreaker will come off and on during the race. I just tie it around my waist.
Geez, Maybe I better put my bib# on my leg! Ha Ha Ha

I have a hard time starting out too. My music lifts my spirits and I think of positive things when I run. I start with the song "Whip it" by Devo. It's really fast paced and funny!

Big sigh of relief! I got my race number!!! I'm #3011 :woohoo: It seems the problem was my date of birth...evidently I was so nervous when registering, I put the day as the 20th rather than the 10th...DUH! But, it was an easy fix and I'm so thrilled! The lady I spoke with was really nice...she said she expects to get alot of panicky phone calls today because it happens all the time.

About 10 minutes ago I did sort of a yawning stretch while sitting at my desk and I think I have strained something in my neck and shoulder area...:headache: Great. Oh well, that only means that I really HAVE to go get a massage, right? :thumbsup2

Well, it definitely looks like I will be bringing up the rear, as I just found out that I'm bib # 14863!:scared1:

But in happier news, I got my 10 miles in yesterday, and it turned out to be my fastest time yet. It's so weird how I'm faster outside than on the treadmill, but hey I'll take it!!

Congrats to all who are beginning to taper. I’m following Galloway from the website, and have a 13 mile run planned for this weekend. Then I’ll take it easy until race day! Woo Hoo!

Have to agree that I always run spastically for the first 2 miles of any run. My breathing is crazy and my pace is probably all over the place. Then magically around mile 3 I start to settle in and get my rhythm.

Thanks for the idea of the blankets from Garden Ridge. I have one near my house, so I’m going to go there to look for a blanket. For those of you looking for cheap throw away hoodies or jackets, I found some Danskin fitted windbreakers in the Activewear section of Walmart on clearance for $2.00. I bought 3 of them at that price. I also got a fuchsia zip up hoodie for $5. I can wear that under the windbreaker if it is really cold. I’m also going to go buy a poncho… hadn’t even thought of that!:thumbsup2

Question: What do you do about wearing your number when you have all of those layers on top? Do you just leave your jackets unzipped until you get into your corral and then zip up?

I actually just ordered some add-on race number clips that will go on my hydration belt so my race number will not be on my shirt, but hang down from my waist. I wear an Amphipod single bottle belt and they make add-ons for their belts...but they come in a couple of different sizes so they would probably be compatible with alot of different hydration or other type of race day belts. I haven't used them yet, but they seem to solve the problem of layering on the top half of your body.

WOW how cold do you all think it will be on race day?
I know last year was really cold but I wasn't thinking this year would be.
I can't run fast in alot of clothes and I was just thinking of wearing a running skirt and tank top as soon as the race starts, probably will have my sleeves. I will have pants and a hoodie to throw away but as soon as its a few minutes to start they all come off.

I also always talk about running and most of my friends have no interest or understand he lingo, too bad ;)

I'm 7462. We're in the same corral!

It sure would be fun to start with you!!
I'm bringing a cell phone along with me as usual. It makes my husband happy. He thinks he will be able to stand near me, at the start, just outside the corral I am in. He did it in the Detroit 1/2. How does that all work at Disney?

I find that I run faster outside too. All the excitement and fast runners makes me run faster too.

Unfortunately only runners can go down to the corrals. It is a long walk...like 15 minutes I think - you definitely feel like cattle as you wind down there in the dark. So, your hubby will have to say his goodbye's at the family area before you leave to go down around 4:45.

I'm encouraged by those of you that are saying they run faster outside than on the TM. I haven't been able to run outside since Christmas because of bad roads and have been able to settle into a nice faster pace (for me) on the TM. I hope I can at least stick with that outside.

Have a great Monday!

Thank you so much for telling me!! It relieves stress to know what's going to happen! He was going to loan me his coat! Do you really have to get in line one hour before the race???? That's horrible. Can I leave and use the restroom and get back in line?
