Official 2011 Princess Half Thread Part II!!!

11 miles in the books today and I'm officially in taper mode...and I plan to celebrate tapering with a nice long nap in front of the fire because I am exhausted!!!! (but I think I'll go finish up the front of my race day shirt while I still have a little adrenaline running.) Good luck with Super Bowl pots today!!! I bought a few "shared" squares at work...would be nice to have some extra Disney money :)

So exciting to see everyone's bib #'s. It's so close I can almost taste it. :goodvibes

It sucks, but I finally caught the "crud" that's been going around at work. Despite lots of hand washing and hand sanitizer, that nasty cough/sore throat stuff has set in. It started Friday afternoon, so this will be a lost weekend of sorts for me. I should be working on my tutu, but bending over to cut the tulle and trying to focus on cutting/building the tutu is too much for my sick head. :guilty:

Since I'm feeling so yucky and it's still pretty cold, I'm skipping the 3-mile this weekend. If I can make it up mid-week, I will so I'm better prepared for the 14 mile next weekend. Then it's tapering to the Princess!!!!!:cheer2:

I'll look on the positive side, at least I got sick now and not a couple of days before the race. It would really suck to be sick on a long flight and during a long race.

3 weeks now we will have finished....woohoo:cool1::cool1: and we will be wearing our medals....woohoo :cool1::cool1:

That's exciting. Can't believe it's so close now.

It's almost 30º and I want to run outside today. My Garmin and ipod are charging, then it's off for my final long run.:yay:

Have you seen those Yaktrax on Amazon.com ??? A friend of mine runs marathons and she likes hers. She buys the velcro kind, so it's easier to fit every shoe.

I have Yak Trax Pro. They are awesome! They velcro over the top of the shoe for running (they also make a walker version without the velcro). I did a 6 miler yesterday on the snow and ice and they relieve alot of the stress about falling and slipping.

Ditto to what she said. LOVE my Yaktrax!

:cheer2: Hello to all the WISHer Princesses!

Not sure if there is a bib roster but, I am bib number #5755. I am thinking I might be in the third corral this year and booted from the second corral. Race gets bigger and people get moved around. Third Princess for me and maybe thinking they are being generous with the bib number, maybe a should be a higher number. This is the last Half Marathon race for be before surgery on Cruella deToe, so I am looking to really just enjoy myself and finish with a smile.

This morning I did my longest run yet. 10 miles!! Until now the longest I went was 6 miles. It was tough because of some foot pain, and I didn't follow my intervals. But I did it. Still averaging a 15 minute mile. I definitely needed this run for peace of mind. I just kept smiling and thinking that soon I'd be looking at the castle as I'm running!!

That is great! Way to go. Now rest your feet!

Just finished ordering the shirts for our team!! We will have 8 at the race, in differing corrals, and all from different states. All of us met through WISH.

They are royal blue tech shirts, ordered from custom ink, with Team Goddess on the front, and the back reads, "It's not about winning, it's about finishing with a little help from my friends!"

Custom ink did a custom designed tech shirt with 1-color art, free shipping for a minimum order of 6, with a 2 week turnaround. Plus they have a great design lab with lots of stock art. Assuming the shirts come looking awesome (I'm hopeful), I will be highly pleased with them.

So, if you see one of them on a tall chubby girl with long brown hair and a black visor struggling mightily, that's me!

So I haven't planned any ADR's for this trip:sad2:. I thought, Its just me so it should be easy to get a table in most places.. yeah right. My husband said I should a least book a few to make sure I have my favs down. so i planned for a pasta carb up night before the race and it seems all Italian places a booked up:scared1: No I'm owrried I may be grasping at straws for meals. Have any of you made this mistake in the past? Did it work out?

We have not made any ADR's yet, either!!! I need to sit down and get this done!

I am debating on what to wear prior to the race start to keep warm. I think it was on this thread that I read people wear robes. Is this true? i think it is a GREAT idea but I would feel funny if I was the ONLY one wearing a fluffy robe to keep warm! Any race veterans out there who can enlighten me?

Oh, I also had my longest run to date yesterday - 9.5 miles. I felt great and am still feeling great today. Knees held up well :) I kept a 13.9 pace, which is just fine for me! Next weekend is 10.5 or 11 miles.

I ran 12 today averaging 15 minutes per mile. I had a twinge in my ankle, but after walking it went away. I had a pain in my lower back at mile 10, but walking eased it away also. No foot pain!! WooHoo I am happy about that.

Well, I'm not a veteran of the race, but you won't be the only one wearing a robe to stay warm...that's what I'm planning on doing as well. I found a really fluffy one, but made sure it was on clearance since I'll be tossing it. I liked the idea of a robe rather than sweats because you don't have to worry about getting the pants off over your shoes or taking a shirt off over your head and messing with your hair or any bands you might be wearing on your head...it just seemed like the least fussy way to go.

I knew the Disney restaurants would be packed before the race so we are eating offsite that day!

I'm not the robe kind of person ;) I always wear throw away hoodies that have a zipper, easy to take off and if its really cold I wear sweatpants that have very wide legs so it comes off easy with the shoes on!

I too am hoping to just finish with a smile, but I don't have the excuse of a bad toe with a great disney nickname.

I just printed out my waiver, and am way back (in the 13,000s), so save some powrade and gu for me, all you in the front and middle of the pack. I guess it wouldn;t be a Disney race if i didn't get to wade through the discarded wrappers, cups, banana peels, etc. at the stops along the way.

Glad to hear she finally reached out to you to apologize. Sounds like her life is a mess and she could use a friend. You are a good person to call her, even though I can only imagine how disappointed you are with the situation.

I know you are going to have a wonderful experience! Only 3 more weeks!:yay:

i can't believe the race is only three weeks away

i called her yesterday for her birthday and she didn't answer. i left a message but she didn't call back. hmm..whatever.

i ran 6 miles today and i gotta say, it sucked. i felt TERRIBLE! granted, i ate everything in sight last night and drank a little so maybe that's why. still, it bummed me out that i felt so crappy.

i've been running now since the summer and the first 2-3 miles i ALWAYS feel like i want to stop. i never feel good. i was hoping that i'd feel good running. usually by 4 or so miles i feel a little better. still, it's depressing when you start out and feel like...ew.

FWIW, this will be my 5th or 6th year of Dianey races, and I have yet to get to the point where the first few miles don't totally suck. Its totally a mental game for me at that point to keep myself moving and get through it -- especially because I feel like i am surrounded by perky, fast out of the starting gate runners blowing past me. And its dark. And sometimes cold. and just, well, ew.

Just keep reminding yourself it will get better, and you'll hit your groove. and when you are finally hitting that groove, others will be losing theirs, so it all balances out sort of.

Feel free to borrow my "mantra" for the first mile or 3 -- left, right, left, right.:lmao:

I bought some fleece blankets for 2.99 at a place called Garden Ridge. I thought about going to the fabric store and getting some fleece on the sale rack. It doesn't need any sewing, just a piece to cover you. Disney collects all the discarded articles and takes them to a charity. I don't know which one.

One more thought...think about rain. You can buy cheap ponchos or use a large trash bag. It won't rain if we all come prepared. :thumbsup2

I been very fortunate this year and have gotten most of my long runs outside. Last year all my running was on a TM. Today was beautiful and I finished 10 miles. My DD just texted and she just finished 10.5 and we were just about the same pace. Haven't heard form my other DD as to how her LR went this weekend.

I REFUSE to throw my cup/gel wraps on the road! I will hold onto them until I can make my way over to the side of the course and throw them in the grass (or beyond the cones anyway). I am not looking forward to wading through half eaten chomps and banana peels...

Sorry you couldn't get ahold of your friend. It gets hard when you feel like you're the only one making an effort in the friendship.

I always feel awful from about 0.5 to 1.5-2 miles. Its usually because I have a side stitch from starting too fast, so I just slow up a little and wait for it to go away. I agree about being depressed when you want to stop after mile 1.
