Official 2011 Princess Half Thread Part II!!!

I've been doing a lot of my training on the treadmill so far as well. I don't mind the cold, but I hate running at night, and won't run if there is ice or snow on the road. Since I ran a 1/2 a couple months ago, I'm not too worried about running so much on the treadmill. I know I can finish the distance, and this race for me is more about having fun than getting a PR. I'm still hoping for some nicer days to run outside. I don't think I could do 12 miles on the treadmill in a few weeks!

I just registered, I am a male though, but I'm running for my girlfriend. I am going to be dressed in a pink princess dress with a tiara to add a little flare and fun. I want to have fun, I'm not there to compete, it is a female event, they can compete, I just want to finish and have fun.

Thank you for just being a man who is willing to run .... of course dressing up is wonderful as it provides entertainment for us woman :) Not because of what you look like, but because you truly love the person you are with regardless of the shade of pink you are wearing!!

I wish my husband would join me in just one race, I am not fast but I would love to share it with him.

Many many hugs to you and the special woman in your life!!!

After 20 years and 4 children you are providing many with a heart smile :love:

Hey guys!
5 of us are over here in South Korea training for this race in 6 weeks!!! (Well, we leave in 6 weeks anyway). Here's my question. We have had a really nice mild fall and early winter and have managed to keep doing all of our runs outside. Then we all went somewhere warm for the Holidays and kept running. Now we're back and winter has finally hit - it's FREEZING out there with epic winds. Since I got back from Christmas we have managed to do 2 out of 6 runs outside and we've done the rest on a treadmill. We even did an 11 miler on the treadmill!! (4 "Amazing race episodes" on my iPad was the only thing that got me through it..) Is it OK to train for a race on a treadmill or are we cheating? If we can still get one or 2 runs in outdoors on the warmest days of the week, will we be setting ourselves back doing the other 2 indoors?
I'm asking because I feel like running on the treadmill left me less sore and achy and I am definitely not feeling as "mindful" about my runnning just picking a speed and making like a hamster for 2 hours. What do you guys think?
Thanks!!
-Melissa

I too trained all last year for this half and another half on my TM!! Personally I love it, because I am in the comforts of my home. I do not think it holds you back or makes you faster ..... it just allows for better planing if you need to use the bathroom, talk on the phone and/or watch a movie is my favorite :)

It does not matter how you train, its all about putting one foot in front of the other :)

Has anyone had difficulty getting their confirmation for the race? I registered back on Dec. 20th, and never got the confirmation e-mail. I re-requested it last week and still nothing. I have sent Active.com an e-mail a few days ago and heard nothing. The e-mail address they have is correct, I tripled checked it. I also checked the spam filter and nothing. I'm at a loss...

try calling 407 WDW-IRUN and see if they can find you. i called them yesterday to pay the remaining balance on my ASMo room and had them make sure i was listed and all set to run. CM just said, "yep, you're there!"

well we got another 9 inches of snow today. that means yet another training day missed! i wish i had a treadmill! i do have an elliptical that i should get on today during my son's naptime. the last week or so i have been eating everything in sight and gained like 3 or 4 pounds. that time of the month has been so tough for me lately! i just want to chow down and lay around!

hopefully tomorrow the streets will be cleared enough that i can run outside. trying to avoid the ice really sucks but i just sort of pretend it's like trying to weave in and out of people on race day!

on and the question about bringing music? i plan on having my iphone with me in an arm band. it's how i run all my training runs anyway. i need music because when i just listen to my breathing i tend to psyche myself out. i will keep it low or run with just one ear piece in during the race so i can hear what's going around me too.

one thing i'm worried about at the race that i experienced when i did a 5k in central park is the whole weaving around people thing. with so many runners and walkers, it's hard to get around people, especially if people run in a row together. is it better to stay to one side or the other or try to run up the middle??

I mananged to get in 3 miles before the snow stared here last night. My knee felt great; I am so happy.

I have also gotten a shirt the 1/2 and I haved located a skirt that might work. Well 2 actually; bu5 the one from skirt sports is $60...no way am I paying that much!

I case anyone is interested Target has some nice shirts for pretty cheap. Women's for 9.99 and girls for 4.50; I got a large girls and it fits pretty loose (the girls are in the back with the stock up sale stuff)

Is anyone doing the ChEAR packages (or has done them in the past) for their spectators? It's my bf's first Disney trip ever and while I want him to have a good cheering spot, he idea of sending him into the MK alone to watch for me... it just doesn't seem like the best way for him to first see the park... I'm thinking we oculd skip the ChEAR package but then he will be so lost in figuring out where to go. Anyone have any feedback on the packages, good or bad, that they can share?

I didn't have the cheer package when I went to see my BF run the WDW half last year, and I was bummed because there was no space for me to see him cross the finish line...all the "public" bleachers were jam packed and fences lined 2 or 3 rows deep with people near the finish...and I'm only 5' tall so couldn't see over anyone! I wish I would have had the package if only for the reserved finish line seating. Everyone that is coming to see me run the Princess has signed up for the Gold Package...for just that reason. Totally understand what you mean about not wanting him to see the park that way alone for the first time...I'd want to be there with him to see him experience it so that's a tough one! But it still gets him finish line seating, so might be worth it to get the Gold Package just for that.

Your post reminds me of my BF's first time to Disney...I was on the monorail next to him (we weren't dating at the time, just friends, but I defintiely already had a crush!) The monorail was coming in front of the MK, and he was getting his first ever glimpse of the castle, and he TOTALLY got goose bumps on his arm...I'll never forget it...totally fell in love at that moment! We actually started dating about a month after that, back in 2008. had to share :)

Ugh - 23.5 inches of the white stuff here...and it's still coming down! I guess it is the dreadmill for me today, although my hip feels a little twingey after yoga yesterday so I may have pushed something too far. Hmm...not sure if I should run or just accept my snow removal cross training as my workout for today.

Speaking of the Cheer Squad - If I anticipate being towards the back of the pack will that make it easier for my hubby to see me finish without having to buy the special seating?

Also - anyone have advice about that morning? I posted the other day asking what is better - to drive yourself or take the host hotel bus? Any advice for that morning is welcome!

Thanks so much!

I drove last year and will likely do so again. I like having the vehicle and being more in control of my own timeline. I left BWV around 4 for a 6AM start, and it took 20 min or so with traffic. I wouldn't leave any later that that, as it does back up.

We took coffee and breakfast and stayed in the warm car.

It takes about 30 min from the parking lot to the corral, maybe a bit longer with port-a-potty stops. Add 10 min for gear check.

Saylan I have had NO experience with the chEAR thing, but if he has never been to Disney (and the fact that it's a guy ;), you know that whole guys don't ask for direction thing) I would say he might like to try it if he wants to see you. My DD didn't run last year, but she saw me run through the MK...when I came up Main Street and again as I came through the castle, and at the finish line. She HAS been to Disney many times and ran the Princess in 2009 so she knew her way around.

AFM...I did 6 miles of speed work. The sun was beating down on me and there was snow/ice all over and I was on the TM with the shades up pretending to be outside.

All of you treadmill trainers - I salute you!!! :worship::worship::worship:

I decided to give it a go with my twinge in my hip (which feels fine now, btw) and was able to eek out 3 miles on the "dreadmill" Man alive, that felt so much harder than my 11 mile run in 23 degrees last weekend! So those of you who do all of your training on the treadmill - I take my hat off to you.

Hoping to be back outside tomorrow!

Been sidelined for a couple of days with a sinus infection and bronchitis. I am hoping to get in some miles tomorrow. I miss not be able to exercise . . . never thought I would say that. When I went to the doctor, I had lost 4 more pounds in the month of December. Not too bad with the holidays and all.

Great job everyone, getting your runs in despite the snow and cold. It snowed here in MI too, so I think it will be the treadmill until maybe this weekend.

I am so impressed by all of you dealing with this crazy weather. I will not complain about the fact that it was in the 30's in Houston after listening to what you all are going through.

I have been dealing with nagging pains for the past week- my foot, my knee and now my back keeps spasming for some reason. It's not a terrible pain but comes and goes and I am afraid to run with the pains because I don't want to make it worse. I think I need to up the stretching a little.

After reading the boards, I went and ordered a sparkle skirt-- in pink naturally. Boy is that thing bright and shiny :rotfl: My DD4 loves it-- she spent the entire evening trying to convince me it didn't look good on me so I would give it to her.

Hope everyone warms up!

Got the same skirt....you are right! It is a 4 year old's dream!

despite the snow i dropped my son at a friend's and ran 4 miles. it was by far the toughest run yet. i run around maritime college which is right on the water and under the Throgs Neck Bridge. the wind was HOWLING. it seemed like it was snowing again because the strong gusts were throwing the snow all around! there was a tarp that fell off of something flying around like crazy. at one point i felt like i was SPRINTING and yet i wasn't actually moving! there were something like 40 mph gusts down there! it was crazy! the snot was flying out of my nose and i looked like a mad-woman in that weather.

but hey, it's done! and it's just one more run getting me closer to this race. i hope to do a 10 miler tomorrow. hoping my friend can watch my little guy for the 2+ hours it'll take me to run it. looks like a high of only 27 tomorrow. ew.

i'm flying down to NC on saturday and staying til sunday night for a friend's baby shower so i need to get my long run in tomorrow.

we leave the following sunday for DISNEY! woot! this time my hubby will be there along with my aunt, uncle and their three kids (11, 9, and almost 8 years old!) i will plan on a long run the day before we leave and be sure to schedule two runs during the week down there. we'll return saturday so i'll get out again at home the next day.
