YOGAMAMA: I take regular walk breaks and they actually help my overall time! Some people take a walk break every few minutes but I didn't like all the stopping / starting, so I walk for one minute at the end of each mile. It really helps me mentally since I know I only have to go for one more mile before I get to break again. AND - even though I ran my farthest distance yet last time, I also ran just under my regular pace! Convinced it was because I didn't force myself to run the whole thing straight.![]()
I run this way as well...normally count my steps at the end of each mile up to 100 and then start again...sometimes let myself go to 125 or 150 if I'm particularly tired though. Most of the time 100 steps gets me close to 1 minute. But you're right, it does wonders to your mental state to know you always have less than a mile to go until your next breather. Great tip!!!
