Official 2011 Princess Half Thread Part II!!!

All of this costume talk has me curious - anyone else here not planning on wearing a costume of some sort? I'm all about comfort over style when I run (just ask my running buddies...I'm surprised they're even seen with me and my clashing colors...I'll at least try to be all matchy for the Princess Half!)

No costume here. I will likely be wearing a shirt that matches some of the girls in my group, and maybe coordinate the rest with the shirt, but overall my "outfit" will also be comfort over style as well.

My big costume decsion is sparkleskirts vs team sparkle. :-) I think it looks simple enough to throw over whatever and I will either glue a red bow to my had ala Snow White or a tiara....still deciding.

SO, yellow sprarkle for the snow white thing or just go with purty blue.... yeah and I got to get my training runs in also. :thumbsup2

My DD finished her Pocohantas outfit. She is so tickled about it. Now I will have to finish my other DD's Jasmine outfit as she has returned to college, good thing we are about the same size. I'm going to wear the minnie outfit I made for the DL 1/2. So if you see Pocohantas, Minnie and Jasmine running together say hello.

This will be the first Princess Half for me and my friend. We did the Disneyland Half last year (first Disney race) and have registered for the 2011 Disneyland Half (here we come C2C medal). We are definitely wearing matching running clothes and tiaras and have toyed with the idea of costumes or tutus. Could someone please share any instructions on how to make a tutu?

Go to youtube and type in no-sew tutu. There are some VERY easy examples/directions to follow that helped even ME!

Yes, I have the sleeves. I plan on wearing them with a short sleeve shirt, and can roll the sleeves down or take them off if it gets too hot!

Any particular brand you have/reccomend? I'm thinking that I'd like to go sleeveless and use the arm sleeves for the start.

Anyone ever use those arm sleeves? One of my running buds has them - I should ask her how she likes them. I'm almost always hot when I run, but waiting in the corral might be pretty chilly.

I thought that if it starts to look like the temp will be warm enough for a short sleeved shirt during the race, I would just bring an inexpensive fluffy robe with me to wear while waiting in the corral...then toss it right before start. I also thought about getting a "snuggie" for the same reason, but I'm only 5' tall and the snuggie would be dragging the ground everywhere...but might be a good option for someone less vertically challenged. An inexpensive fleece throw might do the trick too...and this way you won't have to worry about having to remove a shirt during the race...it might mess up your hair!!! :scared1: These are the things i worry about!

I just saw on the disney store site that they have vinalmations commemorating the 2011 Marathon and Half Marathon. Think they'll have princess ones?

Problem solved...before leaving for race weekend, cut a slit in the front of the tshirt big enough to get off over your tiara or what ever on your head. Another idea is a long sleeve button up shirt..an old from of your DH or DBF. Don't forget, it won't rain , but if it does bring a large trash bag and an old towel is nice to sit on.

Doubt it! We got snubbed on the "Princess in Training" merchandise this year too, which I will be forever mad about!!! But there's still a chance that they may have princess vinylmations at the Expo I suppose.

Good thought, I'll have to watch the weather...I've been looking at the Orlando temps when I get up the last few days. I like the snuggie idea - fake knockoffs are as low as $5. Although, I'm also 5'...actually 5'1" :rotfl:, so I totally hear you on the dragging thing! I've been known to put a belt around mine if I want to walk around my house with it :lmao: On second thought, maybe just a fleece throw would be a tad bit more classy for me, or a fleece zip-up since tossed articles get donated.

I'm doing a Team Sparkle skirt! My friend and running partner from last year had one and she got a ton of compliments. So, I decided to try one for this year. They are too cute! I can't wait to wear it!:)

I found some nice (fake) down jackets at walmart for $12. I figure I can wear it in the corral and toss it right before the race and it will get donated to someone who needs it (since it will be basically brand new). I'm also going to wear sweat pants that will get tossed right before the start. I am very cold natured, but fortunately I warm up very quickly once I start running. My biggest worry is my feet freezing before the start and swelling/hurting once they warm up during the race. I'll probably use hand warmers, but in my experience, they don't do well inside shoes because they don't get enough air (for the chemical reaction that makes it warm). Can you tell I'm an over-thinker lol!

To Keep Feet Warm..
You can get some of the hand warmers and put them in your shoes. Take them out shortly before race starts.

I used the foot warmers last year, they warmed up fine in my shoes (I think I shook them up before putting them on). I also left them in for the whole race.

For throw-away clothes I'm thinking of getting a hooded zip-up sweater at goodwill or kmart and a blanket or large towel to wrap around my legs

I ran through a wicked sinus infection last year. The ENT said he couldn't believe I was walking around, much less running. The CAT scan showed 100% blocked & I almost had to have surgery.

Anywho--oddly, running in the cold felt almost better than anything else. Sure I wasn't breaking any time or distance records and sure I was breathing through my nose, coughing and spitting out nastiness the whole time, but I would feel so much better and sinus were so much clearer for several hours after. The cold air shrinks the nasal passages and allows the infection to loosen, I guess.

Rest, get better, & don't give up!!!

You ladies rock like Gibralter! I have never "met" such a determined bunch!:worship::thumbsup2

just finally signing on after a few day. thanks for this! i got to the doctor today and he gave me a prescription for an antibiotic b/c i have a sinus infection. dummy me didn't ask him what he thought about going out running. BUT, i'm going to do it. i ran on tuesday and felt horrible wednesday and today (thursday) i went to the doctor. maybe i'll see if i can get out tomorrow and then do a slightly longer run this weekend. i should be up to 9 miles but i'm not going to push it that far just yet.

no costume for me. i love the idea of a woman-focused race but i'm not really into the princesses. plus, i'm just trying to finish the darn thing, i don't want anything on me that's too different. and dressing princess-y is definitely very different than my usual black running pants and t-shirt!
