Official 2011 Princess Half Thread Part II!!!

Got my yellow team sparkle skirt ordered! Snow White it is. going to wear that over whatever leggings I have on. Got a couple blue tech shirts today (on sale!), one long sleeve and one short sleeved. All I need now is to get a red headband/bow on a black hat....costume done! Simple and in theme with my running bib princess. Maybe I should get a red blanket or snuggie to use like Snow White's cape before the race.:goodvibes

Here a question for you guys....I have about 200 miles on my current shoes. My new shoes showed up today - same style. How soon should I break them in or rotate them into my running? Do you think I should incorporate them into my weekly shorter runs first? I think my old ones are still fine, just thought around race time it might be time for me to have on my new shoes so wanted to be prepared .... AND they were marked way down. THANKS!

That sounds really cute...good ideas!!

All of this costume talk has me curious - anyone else here not planning on wearing a costume of some sort? I'm all about comfort over style when I run (just ask my running buddies...I'm surprised they're even seen with me and my clashing colors...I'll at least try to be all matchy for the Princess Half!)

No costume for me! Just happy to finish!!

I started my training late this year--as I did last year! This weekend will be my 5 mile run. I just registered Tuesday and the race was at 88%! I ran with my sister last year but she won't be running this year--for good reason ;) but I can't tell just yet (if you know what I mean!).

The last few posts have been about what to wear at the start. All I can say is I FROZE last year. It was so darn cold at the start. Worst part was hanging around before the race for what felt like forever! I had a sweatshirt and running pants on but it didn't cut it at all! This year, I'll wear a sweatshirt, hat, gloves and a blanket for sure. I think Walmart has some decent fleece blankets for $5.

Good luck with your continued training!

Hey now... she can still run! The cool kids are doing it. I'll be running for two- hoping they will cut my time in half or give me two medals. princess:princess: Either way works for me! LOL I'm actually walking it though. Congrats!

I am waddling through 11 tomorrow- I think. I was feeling crappy today, so hoping that means tomorrow is a good one!

For the shoe question- I would work them in the short runs to break them in. And then use the old ones on the long runs until you are pretty comfortable in them. I lucked out- I got new shoes, and went right into them. Put about 3 short walks on them, then hit the long ones and had NO issues with them. They feel GREAT! I love new shoes!

I am a cold freak. So when yall see the prego-fat girl in a parka, gloves, hat, blanket, and hauling a personal heater to the corral, you will know you found me. ;) I can't handle cold- and waiting in it is what is giving me the most angst right now. Praying it won't be as bad as last year. I can manage anything 45 and up- 50s is better for me.

Are the Asics Gel 2150's fit for a large frame (o.k. overweight :))?

Yes. I am also overweight by a good 60-70 lbs, and I took them into my sports med doc said they had as much cushioning as the orthotic she would have prescribed.

If you are ordering online, I would definitely recommend runningwarehouse.com (with the 15% WISHD discount they are $50!). Also, order one 1/2 size bigger than your normal shoe size. Although the nice thing about runningwarehouse is free return shipping. :)

What is a team sparkle skirt?
Sorry if this has been covered and I missed it.

I pulled this off the Team sparkle skirt blog...not sure I can put a URL here. Basically its just a short skirt to wear over your shorts/leggings/tights/capris..whatever. Its a material with some sparkle to it. I figured this looked the right length and seems like its light enough to not bother me when I run. Cute too! These pics are from the Disneyland 1/2

Thought I knew exactly what I was going to wear. Even made the tutu...now I'm so excited, that I'm obsessed with the outfit for this race! UGH! Keep changing my mind.

I would like a sparkle skirt, but the yellowish color from team sparkle looks so sheer! And it doesn't look like sparkleskirts.com makes a yellow color.

hey guys! it's been a LOOOONG time since i've been on here. the last i posted was that i couldn't do the princess half due to the ortho surgeon telling me i can't run anymore because of my congenital hip dysplasia :sad1: ANYWAY...through much consideration and changing of my goals...i am now registered and training for the Royal Family 5k :woohoo: i've been walking every week...2 miles twice a week and 3.1 once a week. it is not what i wanted to do (the disney princess) but it is an adjusted goal and i'm really starting to get excited. i told my trainer that i know i'm not suppose to, but i will run across that finish line :yay: who knows, maybe if i work up to it for next year i can walk the disney princess, but i do think that if i tried this year, i would get swept cause i'm not crazy fast and the distance does get to me. i wish all of you luck in this next month or so of training, and i wish i could be joining you all that sunday morning! just think of me on saturday, doing my little 5k! :cheer2:

welcome back and SO glad to hear you'll be with us that weekend! woot! it sounds like a pretty good compromise since i know how badly you wanted to do the princess. just don't push yourself! oh, and i totally would be running across the finish too! if anything, it makes a good pic, right??? :)

I'll be there cheering on my DH! To be honest, I got a little jealous when I saw the race route - who doesn't want to run all around Epcot??? Great route and you'll have a blast. Taking care of your body is more important than any race. :) Sounds like you've got a great plan!

Ok, let's see if this works. I will try to post a photo from the DL 1/2 and Princess.

alrighty...have to finally say hi to y'all!

My sister, my friend and I are going. My sister isn't running but is a member of the "Cheer Squad". We've been prepping since Oct, with various pulled muscles, foot injuries, juggling kids and deployed husbands, etc. We cannot believe it's coming up so quickly!!! With the month of Dec pretty much coming up as a wash, lol, we are back on track and started training again this week. I just wanted to say hi and I've been enjoying reading everyone's plans and ideas!

It sounds like you have a wonderful girls weekend planned!

quick question... what is the code for the WISH discount at runningwarehouse? I need to order some new shoes, and I would love to get a discount (more money to spend on a costume - yeah!);)
