Official 2011 Princess Half Thread Part II!!!

I've done 99% of my training on the treadmill... I'm too afraid to go outside when it is this cold out. Yesterday my hands froze walking from my car into work, can't imagine running outside right now! Not to mention the ice!

Good for you girls that brave this weather. I'm so glad we are only 36 days from the race, but part of me wishes it was at the end of March so that I could get in a few good runs outside.

 My husband lived in upper Michigan through his formative years and when I complain about the cold he reminds me they use to run water from the tap and then throw it out the door just to watch it freeze before it hit the ground. Here we get antzy if there is frost on the ground :lmao:

I think I will sign up for the Food and Wine in September and I'm sure that I'll be compaining about the heat in July!

Everyone is doing so well! It makes me so excited and helps me believe I can do this! :lovestruc I'm at work now but hoping to get out of here to attempt my long run today. I'm super scared but I think i'm going more for time on my feet than pushing hard for distance. I'm kinda hoping that when I'm actually there, the adrenaline will give me an extra little push..... :wizard:

It's hard to believe it's coming up so soon! My outfit should be all put together by next weekend and if i can figure out how to post a picture i will!

(no laughing please!)

Hey, ladies - just occurred to me - do we need to order park tickets through rundisney ahead of time? Or is this something we can get at the expo? If they need to be sent to me, I want to allow for enough time. Any help on how this works is appreciated!

Thanks!

Great going everyone! I got out for 11 and some change yesterday :thumbsup2 18 degrees when I was out, and actually it was pretty nice. I prefer cooler running weather, I just don't love all of the snow and ice. I have some spikes for my shoes and definitely used them yesterday in some parts of my run...stopping for the on again off again depending on the surface got old, but it helped me to know that if I want to slow down or stop for some of the festivities at the race it won't hurt my time too much.

I think I will sign up for the Food and Wine in September and I'm sure that I'll be complaining about the heat in July!

Sounds like a plan! :thumbsup2 I would love to say count me in, but
I have to figure out the funds first.

Anyone have any luck buying tickets online?
I tried and it said you needed an event code. I looked at my registration and the code they gave me doesn't work...

You have to call them to get your discounted tickets. Which reminds me I still need to do! I did call to get the price awhile back and he said you can just order them on the phone.

Well, I can now say I've completed 10 miles, but wow, it was NOT easy.

The day started out cold, so Hubby and I were all layered up. By mile 5, we were stripping off everything we could. Luckily we'd gone 2.5 out and 2.5 back to the car and were able to drop off extra clothes, gloves, etc. (For some reason, a lot of the water fountains around the lake where we do long runs are not working right now, so we planned the 10 miler as two legs, with a water refilling stop at the car.)

Hubby completed the WDW marathon 2 weeks ago and has been struggling a bit getting back into training. He had a cramp during his first 3 miler early this week and had a severe cramp at 6.5 yesterday (cramps usually aren't an issue for him till after mile 18). So I went on without him.

We both have Garmins. We'd been using his for our intervals and mine for overall pace and time, so without the interval alarms, I ran "too much" and too fast. This is consistently my problem. I have NO sense of pacing. What feels right to me is too fast for endurance running. 3 miles, yes. 10 miles, NO.

So I blew through mile 7 and into 8 and about 8.5 started sucking wind. And my right calf was threatening to cramp. I've never had that before. And I even ate during this run--I don't usually bring anything to eat, but I tried out the GU Blocks (I like 'em. I'll buy them again)--and Hubby spiked my water with Gatorade. So the near-cramp was nerve-wracking, and it didn't help that after that point the wind picked up (cold again!) and I was running into the wind after I'd pushed myself too hard. So I had a nice 1.5 mile mental whipping session back to the car. I did get a chill when I saw 10 miles on my Garmin, but it didn't come with a second wind and I just had to schlog on.

The first thing I said to Hubby when I got to the car was: "I have no business doing this." He said, "get out of the car and stretch." ;) Tough love. So I complained into the car while I stretched and he pep-talked.

The thing he said that got me was in response to me saying (wailing, really), "I don't have 3 more miles in me." He said, "in 5 weeks, you will!" AHA moment: Again, I'm pushing too hard too fast. "Training." I am in training, it is a process, not a single moment. Follow the plan. Work the plan. Don't skip steps in the plan.

Anyhoo, Hubby talked me down Later, I scrolled through each mile of the run on my Garmin and was happy to see I was under the sweeper's pace each and every mile (13-14). So that also helped.

This was a HARD run. Glad it's behind me. Hoping next week is less "eventful." Last week's 9 was a physical effort but mentally easy; there were long stretches when I wasn't aware of time passing, was just enjoying the scenery, telling myself, "keep going till you see the car."

I think the mental aspect of endurance running is hardest for me.

Today I feel pretty good. No aches or pains. The knees complained a bit yesterday afternoon/evening when we met up with friends. But they're quiet today.

Hope everyone has a happy, easy week and lots of feel-good miles!

A little bit of a happy-exhausted though...I was up throughout the night checking on my new kitty :cutie: who was a bit scared and spent most the night exploring her new home. She's an 8 month old Ragdoll and is just too cute for words. My other cat is still sniffing her out, but I think they'll both come around in the next day or two

Congrats! We added a Chihuahua/Daschund puppy to our one-cat household in November. They've reached an agreement of sorts. Our cat hasn't warmed up to the puppy like I'd hoped, but they don't actively fight. I think 2 cats (or 2 dogs) are more likely to really bond. Bet they're curled into a furry ball, napping together in no time!

Here is my secret: I've been running in Payless shoes. I guess I need to break down and spend the money on running shoes.

:scared1: OH, no!!!!! Yes, please, please get yourself some running shoes.

They are sooo worth it. You'll feel an almost-immediate difference. I'd suggest going to a specialty store where they're trained to evaluate your gait and fit you with the right shoes.

Getting real running shoes made such a difference for me! No more knee pain, much more endurance.

They may seem pricey, but they're cheaper than the doctor! ;)

Have to share that the key thing for me today was that I brought my husband's iPad to the gym and watched a movie that I'd downloaded last night; best $3.99 ever! The first 75 minutes flew by. After that, the next 55 minutes (I'm pretty slow...) dragged. My friend came and ran next to me for the last 30, without her, I would have quit even earlier. ~~~Jennifer~~~

Agreed. I cannot run more than 5 miles on the TM without some heavy-duty distraction (after 5, music alone just won't cut it).

My trick is to load a season or so of a TV show onto my touch iPod and only watch eps while I workout. One ep is usually 45 minutes, so you can get through a mini-thon of your fave show--or that one you never watched but heard everyone talking about.

Hi! I'm not sure if you can buy tickets at the expo or not, but I was able to buy my discounted tickets online. The e-mail with the event code came right after registering - I think it was from active.com?

Until recently I think you had to call to order them, but now on the princess homepage there is a link under "Travel Details" that says Theme Park Tickets. You can order them through that link. Mine took about 5 days to arrive.

Hope this helps!

Wow ladies, great job on your running this w/e. Reading how your run went is so motivating. You are all a strong bunch of ladies. Keep up the hard work.

I am doing my run this afternoon. My Garmin and ipod are now fully charged, I had a good lunch, and am letting that settle a little. I am mentally psyched for this run, I just hope my body is physically psyched for this run.:)

Park tickets can be ordered online. Go to the first email you received when registering and there is a code...It starts with the letter "P"

The trick to LR on the TM for me is visualization. For example yesterday I did 8 miles. A 1/4 mile up followed by a slow run up to one mile...now I'm ready to race...I kick it up a bit and pretend I"m doing the first 3 miles of the race. Usually still darkish and not alot going on yet, then slow down for a mile, the next 3 miles I pretend it's the last 3...coming up on the long sweeping overpass and back toward Epcot and finish line (I even think about that Gospel choir with a tenth a mile to go..I think they are awesome). Last mile slow down and cool down..Good Luck

Got in my scheduled 4 miles. Felt good, feet didn't bother me, though I did feel them at the last half mile. I will say it was very moderate to light though. I took it nice and slow. High 30's so nice weather for a run.

Going to doc in the AM. Off to stetch some more, ice and shower. Have a good day.

After some finagling, we threw together a trip for next month and I signed up for the half and the 5K. Hope to see some fellow WISHers there.

Do you know how much the discount is?

Woo-woo! Got in 11 miles today! Was nervous - I've been resting since Wed. b/c my calf was really bothering me. NO probs on this run, and it wasn't CRAZY cold - between 29-33. Didn't seem to be much wind, so that helped, although I did keep the hat / gloves on the whole time. Had to immediately go from running to taking my son to his scout meeting - meh! Now icing my left ankle b/c it's tightened up on me, but thankfully it's not painful.

Tried the Gu and it seemed to work out okay. I also bought a pack of Clif Shot bloks so may try that on my next lr and compare.

Keep training, princesses!

Oh - and another idea for motivation came to me today! Around mile 6 I started feeling pooped, but then it hit me - "right about now, I would be running through Cinderella castle!" Toward the end at almost 11 I thought, "I would prob. be seeing Spaceship Earth right now!" It really helped pump me up a little until the next adrenaline surge kicked in!
