I went to Old Navy today- they sell workout stuff. I had no idea. And it was cheap- or at least compared to Academy, Sports Authority, etc. The sports bras were 12 bucks, shirts were 10 and pants were 15. I was reluctant to spend $$$ on stuff right now bc I wasn't sure if I would stick to it. And I wanted to lose some weight before I went out and purchased the pricier stuff. So I was pretty excited.

Hope you all have a good weekend-- I am headed to California tomorrow. My girlfriends and I are getting together in Napa for a few days. No husbands and no kids. I am not sure what I will be doing with all of that extra time :rotfl: I am brining my stuff so I can get at least one run in while I am there. One of my friends said it was getting down to the 50's in the evenings; with it being so hot here, I don't know if I remember what the 50's feel like. I am really looking forward to running outdoors instead of on the treadmill.

i'm planning on going to old navy today! awesome! i didn't realize they had sports stuff! great info!

ENJOY your time in california!!! how wonderful!

I clicked on the link and was like OMG!! I am *so* cheap. $180 for sunglasses is definitely out of my range.

I found a pair of sport sunglasses at Ross (or TJ Maxx, don't remember) for $6. They are also very light and have the rubberized nose piece.

Sunglasses are also a must for me, as well as a hat (winter) or visor (summer). I need the brim. Sunscreen is also a must regardless of season, as well as something to wipe off sweat and such in the summer. I have been buying the scotch-brite brand sham-wow knockoffs for that, they work great.

I was wondering about the sham-wow type of clothes for this. I definitely need to carry something for the downpour I call sweat! ;) Just one question-- how do you carry it while you're racing? Tuck it into your waistband? I don't think I'll want to carry it for the full half...

Hard to say. You may have started to take in a few extra KCal from the hunger feeling a few hours post run. You are eating a small recovery meal in the first 15-30 minutes post run, right. The carbs in that meal will help delay those hunger pangs.

Have you tacked body fat or sizes at various points on the body during the weight loss? If so, is your gain the thigh and glute areas? That my friend is new firm muscle.

Other than these two things, look at your nutrient ratios and make sure carbs have not crept up.

I have a feeling its the carbs and perhaps the ultra light beers I have been enjoying lately. Is the alcohol a big contributing factor here? If so, that would give me enough reason to chuck them for a while.

i'm not the coach but i will say that YES!! the booze definitely will contribute to not losing weight! even the ultra lights! about 2 years ago i lost 30 lbs (have since had a baby and lost it again aside from about 10-ish lbs). in order to really lose the weight i had to cut out the drinking. since it's the summer i haven't been doing a good job of that (and not eating all that great either) and that's exactly why the weight hasn't come off.

it's hard to cut out those beers. they seem to be tasting even better this summer!!

Oh, yeah, it could absolutely be the beer. But if you're drinking enough water, beer shouldn't be a huge issue, in moderation.

Pretty much you saw Lance Armstrong in the Mich Ultra ads during the TdF coverage but I would bet that he did not have more than a couple in the 6 months pre-tour.

Not a dietition - but in my consultations with mine we count a serving of alcohol as a serviing of fat. One a week is huge if you are living on a nutrition budget. It's the carbs but also the Alcohol.

Also, from a trainer's perspective. I am asking my folks to consume 8-10 glasses of water a day. More to offset exercise. Also one oz of alcohol is a negative glass of water.

Food for thought

I use a spi belt in races to carry my id and gus, so I just tuck it in the the band on the spi belt. I am honestly mostly carrying it, though!

DING, DING, DING ----

Never have I thought of a Sham-Wow type towel. I have a bunch of club 'donoted' hand towels that I tuck into my waistband during the summer. They are cotton and I tend to loose them once they get overly saturated.

Great Idea

Question for Coach One hour of swimming, I'm doing about 2400 yards in lap, what is that worth in cross training? I'm doing the half at DL and haven't done swimming as part of cross training in the past.

Way to go! :thumbsup2 I think I saw you registered for the mini in MB this October, too? I'll be there for the 5k but I'm still toying with walking the half.

Yeah, I decided to sign up for Myrtle Beach because I wanted to do a test run before the Princess (and because the medal was really cool!). I'll be walking it. It SAID it was walker-friendly, but there is also a 3.5 hour time limit. So, we'll see how close I cut it and how strict they are about the time. Since this is the first time they've done that particular race, I don't really have any past info to go on!

Good luck with the 5K! I considered it, but I won't be getting into town until Saturday and then I'll probably be heading straight to the expo...

I think it is a great option. You are working your upper body while getting a decent aerobic workout. Rating swimming against other forms of x-training is kind of difficult. If you come from a competitve swimming background I would say that the swim you described may be equivalent to an easy or slightly higher 30 minutes on a cycle or elliptical. If you are putting some sprint work into the mix and swim more like a barge than a sloop yuo may be working a mid-aerobic hour on another piece of equipment.

In either extreme you are in fact performing an hour of cardio that has little leg involvement well away from the anaerobic zone and that is beneficial. It is a calming, relaxing hour that will carry into the next run refreshed.

In long distance Tri training I actually looked forward to swim workouts just because they were invigorating and added balance to the run, bike and weight workouts I did the other 5 days.

Thanks coach-that helps. I have have had IT band issues in the past so I only run 3X a week. I did swim competiveity many many year ago-so I my swim is freestyle, breaststroke and backstroke. With the current injury-torn both ligemnts on my right thumb, I haven't been able to do much with weights.

Thank you, Coach. That is all I need to hear so its bye bye to my brewski's during training cuz its totally NOT worth it.

This thread has me SO excited about the Princess half. My goal is to run it but I may need to run/walk. Or I may run the 5K and walk the Half. I am on Week 5 of C25K and loving it. My next run is Week 5, Day 3 in which I'll run for 20 min. straight. Today's run was 8 min. of running, twice. I've never run for that long in my life. It is blowing my mind!

Bye, bye vino :rotfl:

Vino meaning wine? Wine is actually good for your heart!

I think I read somewhere that alcohol can have wonky affects on the metabolism. Makes sense. All I know is the timing of me ramping up my ultra lights correspond to my scale issues. Dang.
