: What 5k's are you doing?
Adding to the race day packing list: sunglasses and tissues!![]()
Where is everyone planning to stay? My friend and I are currently at AS Music but are looking to change. I'm curious what resort would be easiest to get back to post race.
rule #1: never wake a sleeping baby, right???
There have been so many posts I really need to catch up!
Quickly for now: I asked the WDW Endurance group about the Princess 1/2 marathon "Princess in Training" shirts. I received the following response:
"...we are planning on offering the Princess In Training shirts later this fall. They will be available via our web site."
Yea! I've been wanting one of those for motivation/focus!![]()
Who is all coming in of Friday the 25th?
I will be arriving with my 2 girlfriends and 1 of their daughters on Friday! We are hoping to be there in the afternoon but may have to wait for the daughter to get out of school. We are making a girls weekend and celebrating the 16th bday of the daughter!![]()
cape may cafe is at the beach club and is SO good. it's not all seafood but most of it is.
speaking of sunglasses - are there running sunglasses? i have regular sunglasses but they are always fogging up. running is quickly becoming an expensive hobby!
I wear Maui Jim Sport Sunglasses:
http://www.zappos.com/maui-jim-hanalei-tortoise-maui-rose-lens
These are very light with a flexible frame and a rubberized nose piece. They never fog up and wrap around your face. I love em!
I clicked on the link and was like OMG!! I am *so* cheap. $180 for sunglasses is definitely out of my range.
I found a pair of sport sunglasses at Ross (or TJ Maxx, don't remember) for $6. They are also very light and have the rubberized nose piece.
Sunglasses are also a must for me, as well as a hat (winter) or visor (summer). I need the brim. Sunscreen is also a must regardless of season, as well as something to wipe off sweat and such in the summer. I have been buying the scotch-brite brand sham-wow knockoffs for that, they work great.
The number seems big, but really it is better to be in a bigger race. You are more likely to have people running the same pace as you. I am looking at running one that has less than 1000 people and I am concerned I am going to be the slowest person by far.

i have been thinking about a hat but my mets hat is so hot! i think i might have to buy one of those running hats i see some people wearing - they look much lighter.
I would suggest sun glasses and a hat or visor for anyone running in the bright sunlight. A good running visor or hat will be made of a wicking material to help keep the weight down and the cap of a mesh material. The most important feature of a good cap/visor is that the underside of the bill is black. Black absorbs some of the light reflecting off the pavement so you eye are not squinting as hard. Similarly sunglasses reduce the glare and subsequently the squinting. This is all an effort to reduce squinting which leads to stress in the face that transmits itself to the neck then shoulders and upper back.
Also, my Eye Doctor running partner would knock me over the head if I did not mention that UV protection of a pair of sunglasses will also protect the eye from sun damage and cancers.
Yay! I'm not the only 15 min/mile person here! Everyone else complaining of being slow at 10, 11, or 12 min/mile makes me laugh. What I wouldn't give to be able to say that! As it is, I'm going to be cutting it close to the sweepers to even stop and use the bathroom. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I don't have to go!
I'm plodding away at my 14:36 mile. Glad that there's a group of us. Maybe we can all stay together for the race?
I'm signed up for the 5K as well. I figured I knew I could at least finish THAT!
I talked to DH about me doing both and he didn't say no. I'll have to see how my long runs are going here in a few months and see if I think I can do them both. I'd hate to miss out on the finish of the Half Marathon by finishing the 5K. The Half medals are SO much nicer, too!
is anyone training with a jogging stroller? i have been doing my weekday runs with my son in the stroller and it is SO hard. the stroller is heavy and pushing it makes me so slow. on the weekends i've been able to run on my own when dh is home. i can BARELY complete 2 or 3 miles while pushing the stroller.
i'm getting nervous for the weekday runs when they are more like 4 and 5 miles because i just don't think i can push that thing for that long.
It's super hard running with a jogging stroller. I did a 5K training program with my daughter. It did wonders for teaching her how to stay in the stroller for awhile thoughI am looking forward to jogging outside with her once fall rolls around... not happy with the treadmill today.
Barely finished 2 miles tonight but I was hurting and didn't want to injure myself. I am getting really psyched for the race. I keep reading blogs and looking at photos and get all misty. This will be such a HUGE accomplishment.
We are planning on going to Expo Friday. We will be arriving Thursday. This is a short trip for us so I'm trying to decide where to eat since the 6-month window is rapidly approaching! I'm thinking celebration dinner after the race at Yachtsman!
WP Express isn't that big.
We might be better with a Raglan Road ADR (there is beer there, too)? It's usually pretty easy to get one, and we can plan big and then reduce down as people commit or not. It's also a place where someone can stop in for a drink, if they don't want to eat and/or are there with family (can send the family to shop!). Although, it can be pretty loud.
is anyone visiting WDW before the race? i will be there in sept, dec, and january (i know, i'm spoiled...we bought a DVC contract that had extra banked points that we had to use).
since i'll be there during prime training, i should really run while i'm there, right? usually we walk a TON (used a pedometer once and we did 12 miles most days). maybe i won't do a long run?
i'm staying at bcv in sept, ssr in dec and treehouses in jan. anyone know where to run there?
Yeah, I'm doing both. Maybe that was a dumb idea, but I wanted to participate in both. I suppose I could always decide otherwise once I get there. I knew that I probably could finish the 5K even if something happened to prevent me from finishing the half (if my MS flares up or some other such unforseen event) and at least I'd come away with one medal.
It's my version of pre-emptive planning.![]()
Coach Charles, I have a question for you. I lost about 25 lbs. as of December but since I ramped up my running mileage (24 miles per week) I gained about 5 lbs. back. No matter what I try the scale will not budge. Is it the glycogen building my body is experiencing the reason why? Is it pretty much impossible to lose right now in my 11th out of 16 week HM training (first HM Sept. 26)? Is this a normal thing?
Thank you.
When in December will you be there? We'll be at SSR 12/1-12/4 then moving to AKL 12/4-11.
BTW- sorry for posting a bazillion times. I'm just learning multi-quote.
