i hope that one day a 10 miler will be going through the motions for me! awesome!

have fun in disney! where are you staying?? we are going on the 19th :)

I actually only did 6.5. Some folks turned around early and I decided to join in, just wasn't feeling it today.

Thanks! We are staying at BCV for 3 days and BWV for 5.

Yay I completed my very first race this morning! I did a 5k and I feel great! I must say it is very exciting. I know everyone says on race day, you kinda follow the others around you, and wanna catch up, well I know I did. Normally I switch between walking and running, where I always start off walking. However when they said go, and everyone was running,. I decided why not. I ended up running for a full mile straight. Which I have nevr done before. My battery in my gymboss died, so I didn't have the vibrations to tell me when to switch to walking. So i decided 3 miles, I have done this several times during training so far, so why not run. I ended up running more then walking. I would stop to walk for maybe 20-30 seconds (when in need of a break), and continued my journey.

Overall I ended up finishing the race in 34:28 with a pace of 11:05. I came in 7th in my age divison and I was happy with that. When I say the finishing line I picked up the speed as it was all so very exciting.

I cannot believe I am about to say this as a non-runner, who use to laugh at my brother for running and calling him nuts.......but I really had a lot of fun. I am so excited for the Disney Princess, and cannot wait to sign up for my next 5k.

AWESOME!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Great job!!!!!

congrats on your run jeter!!

my son won his first swimming race ever today! omg it was so funny. dh held him and just ran in the water with him. hahah. the babies in the water were so funny and pretty much all of them cried. but thomas got over it after he felt the warm water!

I was scheduled for 8 miles today. It was nice after the 11 miles last weekend! I was at 15:25 min/mi which is a good walking time for me. I did several running intervals at 12min/mi, a little over a mile of the 8 miles total. I'm proud of that. That's more running than I've been coordinated enough to do up until this point. I think I'm really going to concentrate on that more after my HM in October. I'm just in survival mode for that one! If I can get more running intervals in before the Princess, I can assure myself of more 'sweeper cushion' for photo ops! (Can you tell my priorities lie a little more with the fun aspects of the Princess?? :rotfl: )

Great job Jeter02!

I have my C25k 25minute run tomorrow...hoping I can last...which I am sure i can just have to not overdo it.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! You are a runner and there is now no looking back! Now you can register for the next race!

I have another 11 mile long run tomorrow morning and the weather is going to be GORGEOUS! Next Sunday will be my first 12 miler, the Sunday after that...12 miles and then...SHOWTIME! Three weeks from tomorrow will be my first HM and I TRUST I will be ready LOL.

School is back in full swing and I have not been able to hop on the board much since I teach and needed to focus on getting my room ready, getting my own kids ready to start back and squeeze some running in between all of that. We are an active bunch! I continue to be motivated by all of the success stories out there. I am running my first ever 5K on Sept. 22 - an evening Harvest Moon Run.

I set out to do a 9 mile run this morning. I did 10! I am pumped!!! Just 5 weeks until my half, I am getting there. I am shooting for 11 next weekend.

I was about a half mile down the road, and thought I'd just do a short run because it's so windy. Then I though about how good I would feel if I get the run in today instead of tomorrow, so I did it. I will not do that again. I felt like I was running at an incline most of the run, not really what I wanted for my long run. Oh well, I did it.

Woo hoo! Doesn't it feel great to reach new distances? AWESOME!

Welcome back!

hi everyone,
my name is Karen and I live in Northern NJ. I started running mid 2009 for the 2010 wdw hm. I never enjoyed running in the past , but with the goal ahead of me, I was bitten!

I was proud of my hm time and had a blast (except for that annoying cold & sleet thing). I apparently tore cartilage either during or soon after the race (my legs were so cold that I wouldn't have felt it if it happened during, anyway). by the time I had the surgery and recouperated, it was already late May. I ran a few times, but was feeling very unmotivated b/c I had lost so much ground, and b/c I didn't have a goal to look forward to. Then, just last night, a friend from work said " heck yeah" when I asked if she would do the Princess hm. That was all it took. I couldn't wait to get up this morning to restart my running. I did 6 miles (no matter how far I run, I am always between 10 & 11.5 minute miles). I was planning 5, but felt so good that I kept going. That last mile was a struggle, but that's good b/c it means I'm pushing. right?

I'll do my mile-a-month method. That's where I add a mile at the beginning of each month. That will put me at 10 before February, and hopefully I can jump to 11 in Feb itself. I only ever made it to 10.5 before this past hm, so I'm not worried about going to 11.

I already booked a room at Dolphin (points). I can't understand why they scheduled the princess at the end of Presidents week vacation. Rates are so high, and I am very afraid to check out the airfares!! Oh well, it is what it is.

I just wanted to stop by and say hi. If there are runners from around West Orange NJ who want to meet for a run some Saturday morning, let me know.

I'll see everyone on the boards!

(ps - just returned earlier this week from our annual August family week at WDW and wanted to report that the crowds were unbelievingly low. I think Disney is a lagging economic indicator. Last year was crazy crowded, even though the recession was in full swing.)

Great job everyone, and welcome Karen.
We are all totally going to do this!

Started my MFM training program this week. I had my first long run at 6m today and felt great. The weather is cool here and man what a difference running when it's 65 compared to 85. Less than 6m to go. Can't wait!
Great jobs on all the training.

Hi Karen,
Wow, 6 miles on your first run back, thats great.

I'm Jo and I am new to this, over weight and slow, but working on it.

Your priorties are totally in the right place--- right where mine are as well :lmao:

Congrats for your son! Sounds like he had a good time. My oldest who is 4 still hates the water.

No long run for me yet, foot still hurts, we will see tomorrow

Hope you feel better

Me too. Well, I am not Jo. But the rest of it applies :)

I did 4 miles today at a 15 minute pace. I feel my endurance improving. But I was doing a 15 minute pace when I was at 2 miles and it hasn't changed. I have to work on increasing the pace some; I would like to be able to get to a 13-14 minute pace.

I posted this on another thread but haven't heard anything back so I figured I would try here:
Is it ok to add races as your long run? The week I am supposed to do 11 miles, there is the Sugar Land half marathon which pretty much runs through my neighboorhood. I was thinking I would do the 11 miles as I was supposed to and then walk the last two really slowly. And then the week I am supposed to do 12.5 miles, the Dallas half is going on-- that one has a 3.5 or 4 hour cut off. I feel like doing the races will get me into the practice of running the races but also will motivate me to do some of these long runs.

Welcome, Karen! There are a bunch of us NJ/NY girls here. So we can all complain or cheer about the weather together.

Checking in with my first 12 mile training session today. Finished in 2:12:02, hills and all. I took a chocolate GU at about mile 5.5, which helped a lot, but mile 10 was pretty sad. Mile 2 was my fastest at about 9:40, mile 6 was my slowest at 12:36, but that included my gel break, so I'm not sure how long it really took.

In short, 70 and sunny with a nice breeze is good running weather.
