They must have known about Jeff Galloway coming on board for a while now. When you registered for the Princess (at least, when I did, and I did it on Day 1!) it said that one of the things you received for your registration fee was 'Race Training from Jeff Galloway'. I assumed they would email you one of his 12 week training programs at some point, but maybe he's going to be even more hands-on?

Very cool!

I just caught up on the thread. Everyone is doing great with training and races. You guys are great motivators. I'm hoping to run a 10K with my DSIL next weekend. I'm very nervous as I've only done three 5K's. I've done 6 miles in training twice so I should be ok. Wish me luck!

Here's my running related story of the week - In my enthusiasm to share my running successes, I got to talking about running with a few of the men in my Department at work. They run regularly after work. For two months they have been asking me to go with them. I think as some sort of comic relief. :rotfl2: I'm 47 and they are in their early 30s. I've been avoiding going for many reasons not the least of which is my concern that I'd be too slow or would not be able to make it. Also, lets just say I am NOT one of those people who look good in running clothes. In fact I like to stick with the motto the more clothing I wear the better I look.

Anyway I finally got to the point that I am relatively confident running 4-5 miles :cheer2: So I decided to go with the 'boys" on Tuesday. After changing we met at the designated spot and :scared1: my boss is there in little black 70's shorts and his white wife beater tee shirt. My boss is, lets just say, not the type you want to hang out with. In fact, he is quite intimidating. We rarely if ever exchange any personal information. I'm sure you all know the type. What a nightmare. Now I have to go and pray I just don't completely embarrass myself. The end result - I did awesome. It was the fastest 4.25 miles I've ever run - 41 minutes :cool1: I refused to let them get ahead of me. Of course, I thought I'd die. I'm pretty sure the boys were impressed. I felt great after. However, never again. I'll stick with my training runs with my DSIL. No stress.

I love what coach said. Great Story. You Go Girl!!

I did a race a few weeks ago where one woman (who was awesome) stayed on the course after she finished and encouraged runners who were having a hard time finishing. She ran the last few blocks with them. I think she must have crossed the finish line with about 60 people.

Wow, that's so awesome. I am sure that meant the world to them, it would have to me.

He's been around for a while.... I think this a joint venture to bring revenue into both parties hoppers. Jeff is a perfect 17 marathon runner . He and Frank Shorter were the torch bearers for the early days of the event.

Good Morning everyone...can everyone keep their fingers crossed for me and send me lucky pixie dust? I finally got a hit this morning on some "wanted" posts I've put out there to buy someone's bib for the Disneyland 5k tomorrow! I'm headed out this evening to support my BF who's running the half on sunday and I'd love to run the 5k, but couldn't register because I knew we wouldn't make it to the Expo in time tonight for packet pick up. Anyway, I got an email this morning from someone out there that can't run and am now waiting to hear back...hopefully everything will work out...how fun would that be? I mean, I have to get a run in tomorrow anyway, so it might as well be through Disneyland, right??? :woohoo:

It would be fun, but it's probably not legal. Most races have very strict rules about buying bibs.

good luck on the disneyland 5k.

i just ran 6 miles today! woot woot! 67 minutes. i can't do a long run tomorrow morning because my neighborhood's big labor day celebration is having an early start tomorrow morning. because of the tide schedule, the swimming races start at 8am! ds will be competing in his first swimming AND running races this year (they start with 1 year olds!). so, he'll be in a running race this sunday and then his mom will be in a running race the following sunday :) i'm thinking of doing the mile race they have in my 'hood - the first three people get a bottle of liquor as a prize.

anyway, woot woot! 6 miles! longest ever! ok, i know it's not the 11 that a few have done recently but i was pretty pumped. i felt ok in the beginning, totally horrible in the middle, and then just happy at the end because it was almost over. i need to figure out a hydration system. i didn't have any water or anything and i was dying of thirst.

Hi all!
Im new to the whole running thing, I am big into physical fitness since starting my weight loss journey 4 yrs ago..through that journey I accomplished lots of really cool stuff but never running! I hated to run! I ran interval sprints to help with the weight loss but never more than 20 minutes and it was never any distance..so about 10 weeks ago I decided to accomplish distance running.. it started out slooooowwww, but have really begun to enjoy the daily challenges it brings and the fact that it is just me and my mind on those runs.. So i am happy to say that I am up to 8miles non stop in about 75min. wooohoo! As i keep progressing though i thought of how fun adding races would be so i have a few 5k's planned, then a 10miler in Oct. and an 15k in Oct. but I started searching for 1/2 marathons and Hubby suggested the Disney 1/2 and said we could make a trip out of it..wooohoo! BUT, the mom in me came out and i can't take the kiddos out of school right after they come back from xmas break so i got bummed until i discovered the princess 1/2, oh I am SOOO excited! It works perfect cause kiddos schools are closed 2 of those days too...So I am IN!!!!

We are a big Disney family, we had a fairytale wedding and bought into DVC, we even bring our camper and camp.. so running through disney and accomplishing my 1/2marathon goal in my favorite place is a dream come true!!!

Working on where to stay this trip, just having trouble deciding, but I am also pleased to see that the free dinning is going on thru these dates..so it makes it a steal..

happy day to all!
Mgg

Alright so my workout yesterday was ridiculously hot. I had set the alwarm the night prior for 4:20am, however I apparently never turned the actual alarm on. I wanted to get my normal Thursday run, becasue my 5k race is tomorrow. WEll lets just say, the next time I say I missed my morning run, just tell me I will be a fool to run in afternoon/evening. I was so hot yesterday, I ran only 35 min out my 40 min. It was to stinkin hot.

Anyways, wish me luck on my very first race ver tomorrow. 5k here we come.

Congrats Dumbo on your 6 miles, that is awesome. My 6miles is next Sat. I know we mentioned are schedules are very similar, are you also using M4M?

I have a 10 miler tomorrow, as usual for Saturday. I am still not really in training mode so this will be going through the motions.

I leave for WDW on Sunday, so when I get back on the 13th, real training mode begins!

Jeter, good luck on the 5k!

Mgg, wow, on the 75 min/8 miles. I am SO much slower.

I'm scheduled for an 8 mile distance in the morning. I'm hoping to knock it out quickly (especially since I haven't been feeling well) and get on with the weekend!!

dumbo buddy-- Good luck on your race today!!! I'm thinking about you and sending some mental energy your way! Be sure to let us know how it went!

:cheer2:

Yay I completed my very first race this morning! I did a 5k and I feel great! I must say it is very exciting. I know everyone says on race day, you kinda follow the others around you, and wanna catch up, well I know I did. Normally I switch between walking and running, where I always start off walking. However when they said go, and everyone was running,. I decided why not. I ended up running for a full mile straight. Which I have nevr done before. My battery in my gymboss died, so I didn't have the vibrations to tell me when to switch to walking. So i decided 3 miles, I have done this several times during training so far, so why not run. I ended up running more then walking. I would stop to walk for maybe 20-30 seconds (when in need of a break), and continued my journey.

Overall I ended up finishing the race in 34:28 with a pace of 11:05. I came in 7th in my age divison and I was happy with that. When I say the finishing line I picked up the speed as it was all so very exciting.

I cannot believe I am about to say this as a non-runner, who use to laugh at my brother for running and calling him nuts.......but I really had a lot of fun. I am so excited for the Disney Princess, and cannot wait to sign up for my next 5k.
