Offical free dining watch 2008

Hi. Yes the value resorts have been included and so have the cabins in FW. I stayed in the cabins during free dining in 2006. very fun! :)

Why does everyone think that the beginning of August is too early to start free dining? Remember in 2006 it started on August 13... I just hope it will be the same even though in 2007 it started later in aug. The beginning of aug is the only time I can go. So i'm hoping for that.

We were at POR at the beginning of Aug. last year and they were booked to capacity. I doubt they'll offer free dining then as some resorts are full at that time. A lot of people with kids do their vacation right before school starts, and school starts in mid-August in some places. It would be nice to have free dining that early--we would have LOVED to have had free dining last year! My dh is a teacher and we couldn't travel later than mid-August so we missed out on the deal.

Forgive me if this is a silly question, but why is there speculation as to whether or not free dining would include the value resorts? I don't see how they could exclude 4 hotels from the promotion... :confused3

It is Disney and they can and will do whatever they want. They often exclude resorts from promotions when they appear to be at a high capacity. One thing about Disney and promotions, there is no way of knowing what they will do next. You should always have a plan B when it comes to booking a Disney trip using any promotion or discount.

I totally agree... I love to speculate... so much It's a sport for me now... But they can do what they want.
They can't possibly offer a promotion if they don't have the rooms available or the revenue wouldn't support it (if past exp shows, not enough money was taken in by a promotion in that area... I am sure they can figure it out pretty well since most people use keycard throughout their trip) and families with small kids, such as ours... often like values more because of size and themeing... and can go during value season as kids are not yet in school. So my guess would be they are trying to fill mod's and deluxe.

That said... I still think free dining will be available for all resorts.. don't know why.... just wishful thinking probably.. hey it's disney.. does logic really come into play.... for me it's all emotion :cloud9:

Not only is speculation a sport - but perhaps a BLOOD SPORT (since it feels like I've been popping blood vessels in my brain over this).

My guess is that Values WILL be included - reasons are as follows:

1. Public Free Dining will include September, that much we can be pretty certain about.

2. Two groups have already had Free Dining offered, Bounceback and UK - UK (having almost all of September and a lot of August) could NOT book Values. So no rooms were taken up by them. Bouncebackers were limited to September, but were allowed to book Values. However, I can't imagine that too many rooms were taken by them, especially considering that Disney INCREASED the booking window to guests onsite in early October. I'm sure a lot of people took advantage of the offer, but for MOST guests, Disney isn't an option for yearly vacations. A lot of people who were eligible for the offer are probably there only every two or three years (or so), or perhaps on their once-in-a-lifetime Disney World trip.

3. IF Public Free Dining is also available for ANY part of August, there have been NO Value rooms eligible for that promotion at that time. If Disney is going to allow for Values to be booked in August, they should also be available in September. Maybe not as many, but Disney ALWAYS says that rooms are limited - so act fast on this offer. I don't ever remeber a promotion saying certain resort levels for certain months at the outset of the offer. That might be the case "behind the scenes", people calling and being told their is no availability for their desired resort, but that's normal.

4. I posted in another thread that for a North American guest who doesn't fly to Disney, forcing them to book a moderate will increase the cost of the package by about 25% over a value. That's pretty significant. For UK visitors who must fly, that added cost makes a room rate difference less noticeable - only 13% more than the cost of a package in a value resort. In other words, it is easier for Disney to get away with it. Value resort packages with Free Dining for about a one week stay (2 adults, 1 junion, 1 child) are around $1600. $400 on top of that seems a lot. The same family from the UK, with airfare, in USD, are already usually in the $6,000 price range. Another $400 when you are already willing to pay that much just doesn't seem to be as big of a hit.

Now, I could be wrong and values will be excluded. But, I hope not.

The speculation comes from the fact that UK Bounceback promotion had to book a moderate or above. They were not allowed to book any of the values.

It seems like last year alot of the people in the values were bumped up to villas to accomodate the overload so I heard that is why they are going to do without the values so they don't have the same problem again.
who knows until it is released, just alot of guessing till then.

Thanks for the info!

we just booked pop for 2 weeks and akl for 1 week in september so realluy hoping now that free dining becomes available hopefully for all resorts if not atleast we may get it for our last week. Fingers crossed.

When I called to make my dining reservations this morning I talked to the CM about free dining and she talked back. She never shot me down when I was telling her I was going to book it, but we had a pleasant conversation about booking it when it comes out. :rolleyes1

I made our dining ressies last night for our 14 night stay ( booked with free dining bb promo). We decided to do the deluxe upgrade just because a few family members really like the appetizer vs. an entree. We never worried about getting value out of the dining plan...just the convenience so we're probably paying too much for what we'll actually use but that was everyone's choice and it's not coming out of my pocket. We got all our ADR's except LeCellier which was sold out for the entire two weeks. If you DO have a ressie book now for your ADR's!---Kathy

You DON'T have to have a reservation to book ADR's. You can book them anytime,(as long as it's 180 days before) and the yuse your phone number.

The deluxe dining is so much food. We had it in feb and will be using it in Sept. Because it is three TS a day we booked a lot of 2 TS meals (Royal Table, Brown Derby, Narcoisse, etc.)

Wow! I can't believe Le Cellier was completly booked! What are your vacation dates? When I called yesterday to book Le Cellier for September 24th I asked for 7:00 and they had 6:40 or 7:55 available, I thought that was pretty good! Hope you have better luck as the date gets closer.

If I remember right from last year... it was 7am... but then again, I didn't have to call, just wait for my TA to get in touch with me (which in some ways was more torturous cause it was like 9:30 by the time I heard from her)

I am looking for the last week of August or first week of September.....The first date was the 23rd of Aug... but we decided to a week of two later.
