Offical American Idol Discussion Thread

I'm going to digress from the singing for a minute and talk about the personal styling of the final four.
In my opinion, both Latoya and Fantasia have really stepped out as far as personal style. Latoya coming the furthest and looking the classiest on a weekly basis.
Now Diana and Jasmine....what's up with them??? Jasmine wears those tight jeans and sparkly bracelet every week--I just didn't like her look at all last week for Big Band. And Diana has quite a little pouch going in her tummy region, yet week after week the clothes she wears accentuates it rather then hides it. Either they got the worst stylists or they aren't taking their advice.

I read an article in Entertainment Weekly & the stylists & singing coaches said they cannot tell them what they should do. They can "steer" them, but they can't say "you should sing....." or "you should not wear......." . I think that if the stylists were allowed to dress these folks, Diana would dress quite a bit differently. Did you see her on the show where George got the boot? She looked great. She looked like she didn't have a belly at all. She just keeps picking the wrong clothes. I think it's funny that Diana dresses so much "older" than she is; on the other hand, it seems like Jasmine picks stuff that you would think a 17 year old would choose.

I have a feeling Diana dresses older because of the whole Simon "you're young, you're young, you're young" thing. Just a guess though.

What's tonight - Donna Summer? If I hear one more sound byte of Simon saying "Battle of the Divas", I'm gonna hurl.

That's a good point, and probably true if I had to guess now that I think about it. They keep reminding them and everyone else that they're young. The way I see it, so what? If they've got the talent and the personality, shouldn't that override simple age?

That's right::yes:: If they allow them to compete at that age, then age shouldn't be an issue. If it were, then the young ones would have left the competition sooner.

find a note -- and a key while you're at it!

OMG, it was SO OFF KEY I had to hold my ears!

Bye, Bye, Jasmine!

Ok...think what you will of me but........did anyones else notice on Jasmines VERY TIGHT dress that she should have um, well, trimmed......
I'm sorry but that just popped out at me (no pun intened) when I first saw her!
Very very off-key too.....hope she does better!

What happened to Jasmine?? Its too late to change her wardrobe now!

"This is NOT It" -- how terrible. Bad choice of song and not a note in key!!!!!

Just as I thought it would be -- it's be LaToya and Fantasia in the final round.

Bye, Bye, Diana!!!

P.S. What is WRONG with the judges? Are they hard of hearing? She was so offkey! AND, IMHO, I do NOT like her new hairstyle...

Poor Jasmine is just way out of her league... she should be singing in a high school talent show. She has trouble staying on key, and just has no spark in her voice at all. Weak technically, and she brings no personality to the performance.

LaToya gave a polished and professional, technically outstanding performance. But I agree very much with Simon's point that we don't feel that we KNOW her. She's professional, cordial, pleasant to look at the listen to. I can see her having a career on "adult contemporary" radio, but I don't see her as an Idol caliber entertainer who can generate excitement and truly connect with the audience.

Fantasia just blows onto the stage and owns it. Yes, she's cocky. But you can FEEL how much FUN she's having. She' s technically very strong, and she seems to love flirting with the audience. She reminds me much more of Nell Carter than of Macy Gray. And I adored Nell Carter and the energy that shimmered around her.

Diana is developing into a very strong performer, too- strong voice, having fun. I think that she's got a very bright future, and that she will really mature into an interesting performer over the next few years. She's very young, still has the baby fat look, but she's just beginning to glow onstage lately.

Wow, Jasmine was soooooooooo bad tonight. I agree with Simon about LaToya, I've always thought she was dull, good but dull.

Oh my, I can't believe Jasmine is going to sing this song!!!!!!!!!!!

Diana I think will be really really great in a couple of years (I think she's pretty great already).

Poor Jasmine, the Mama in me wanted to just hug her and make it better....

She became Carmen tonight... it was so sad.

I agree, Diana has come a long way. She's determined and God bless her. I don't like her style, though.

I so agree with Simon about LaToya. We still don't know anything about her. She is very discreet and ladylike, but she can sing her little heart out.

Fantasia will always be my favorite.

So at least we know who our final three are.... :teeth:

What is Disco about this song? It's from "Footloose" - 1984!!

Very disappointing for Fantasia.

Enough is Enough is going very well for Diana -- she did MUCH better on this song than on her first one tonight.

Wow! I'm so proud of Diana, and the way she OWNED Enough is Enough!

She's really developing a sparkle and confidence on stage that I didn't foresee a few weeks ago.

After tonight, I think that Fantasia and Diana both have a great shot at the title. LaToya is the most skilled and polished performer, but in a much more subdued and elegant way.

Where to begin??? Jasmine, oh boy, she really picked the wrong songs. But she wore a great dress.;) I agree with Robin, I wanted to reach out and hug her.

Latoya - I don't care how boring she is to others, I think she's great. She is so classy and beautiful and she can sing too. She's the anti-Whitney IMHO.

Fantasia - Great on the first song, but "Holding Out for a Hero" is NOT disco. NOT NOT NOT. How is she getting away with singing all these songs that are out of the stated genre?

Diana - OK, flame if you will, but I thought she was screaming. She's got pep, and she's cute and lovable, but she screams. Sorry, she's not my first choice.

All in all, I'm voting for Latoya.

I thought that Diana was fantastic this evening. I may even pick up the phone and place my first ever American Idol vote.

I agree Diana was fantastic!!!!

Jasmine......I lover her....but its her turn to go....when she cried, I cried

LaToya can sing but she bores me

Fantasia....good first song....didn't like the second

I just tried my first ever vote, and I'm getting "the call cannot be completed as dialed" message. Isn't the number 1 866 IDOL 01(or 02, 03 04)? Am I dialing it wrong?

It's 1-866-IDOLS-00 - make sure you have the "s" at the end of "idol"

Diana should win.

Jasmine should go.

Latoya and Fantasia are just overrated to me. I hadn't seen the show in about 2 weeks and came back. These girls are good singers, but they are so boring. They look way too old to be AI's, and they just don't have that IT quality IMHO.
