Offical American Idol Discussion Thread

I thought that LaToya was so NOT boring particularly during her second song. She has all of the tools to be great IMO. Fantasia is talented too but just not my taste.

Poor Jasmine. :(

That's it, I was leaving off the "S". I guess I should have been able to figure it out by the number of digits I was dialing. Thank you!

Boy, I really disliked Diana during the first few weeks of the show, but she has become my favorite. I think Simon hit it right on the head tonight. She is the only one who has grown during the competition. Jasmine should be the one to go.

The number is 1-866-43657-then choose 01,02,03,04.

Poor Jasmine. I felt so bad for her. I wanted to hug her too. Simon doesn't have to be that rude towards her.

Latoya- Great as always. I think her personality is just fine. She's very mature and carries herself like a lady. What more do they want? Everyone has there own personality.

Fantasia- Didn't care for her outfit- the half tops. She didn't pretty good tonight. Simon really likes her and wants her in the finale.

Diana- She did good on her last song. But I must agree with the other poster. I don't think she's an American Idol. I also think she screams a lot in her songs. Diana is definitely not Kelly Clarkston.
Kelly can sing better.

I honestly think they shouldn't of did Disco 70's songs as a theme. I think that is to out dated.

Good-bye Jasmine...We will surely miss you!! Sorry to say but I agree with Simon (I forgot what he said, but I know he was not to thrilled to hear her sing). She was crying I guess she knows her time was up. She kind of made me cry too! :(

DITTO!
Diana...Diana...She was great tonite. In the beggining, I didn't care for her, but I grew to like her a lot and yes she has grown during the competition.

Fantasia and LaToya...both did a great job as always.

ITA! I couldn't stand Diana but she's grown on me and I'm rooting for her to win.

Jasmine was terrible, I felt bad for her. I'll be shocked if she doesn't go tomorrow.

I also made my first ever vote call to American Idol tonight, I voted for Diana. I'm impressed by the way she has grown in the past weeks.

I love LaToya....as usual, she was wonderful!

I can't STAND Fantasia's voice!!!!!!!!! UGH! What was up with the judges...they just love her but I just can't understand why!!

Diana was very good, even better on her 2nd song!

Poor Jasmine performed at her worst.........she knew it too. :(

I think LaToya should be the next AI...if she doesn't win, I sure hope it's Diana because the thought of Fantasia winning is awful!

I hope Fantasia doesn't win. I do not like her voice, and she is definitely an attention-seeker. I like Diana's voice, but she seems to have very little personality. I really liked Jasmine, but I don't think she will be going much further, unfortunately. LaToya is both talented and classy. I'd like to see her win.

Do you guys not think that Fantasia and LaToya are too old?

I just look at them and think...how in the world are they going to get a Video on MTV. They look too old to even be VJ's!

****************Edited to Add*******************

I just looked on the AI website. It says that Fantasia is only 19? She looks like she is in her mid-20s! Latoya I'm guessing just barely made the age limit.

I just realized that I'm going to be in Disney World during the finale! Oh well, what a great problem to have!!! As poorly as Jasmine did tonight, I'd still like to see Fantasia to go! She always sounds like she has just sucked helium before she sings!

CBRorBust, I personally don't care how old a performer is or looks as long they are talented and sound good. Why would mid-20's be too old? Do you think that American Idols should all be teenagers?

Tonight I was just not excited to watch. I watched, but I was also online and doing other things because it's not exciting to me. IMO, none of them can even compare to Kelly or Clay.

I felt bad for Jasmine. She didn't do that great, but the judges didn't have to be so harsh! A lot of people thought that her crying was to get sympathy votes, but she's not Fantasia! I can see how she would be upset after some of the comments she got, and you could definitely tell she was trying to hold it in. She didn't even want to say anything when Ryan was talking to her because you could tell she would have started crying. I still gave her a couple of votes, because I like her, and would much rather see her stay then Fantasia or Diana.

Latoya did great. I don't know what the judges were talking about when they said it was boring, because I honestly think she's the only one that has the talent to win this competition. So I had to give her a couple of votes too.

I shouldn't even bother making any comments on Fantasia or Diana because it's the same everytime...yuck! I am so surprised the judges were praising Diana after her performances, she was not that good! Now she just got an extreme ego boost and will be even more annoying. Am I the only one that is annoyed by her attitude? Especially after her second performance when she was all giddy and jumping up and down. I don't really like her voice because it's mostly screaming, but her attitude is what really bothers me!

I think the judges are trying very hard to steer people not to vote for Jasmine. It would be embarassing if she made AI because of her intonation problems. While Diana has great promise, there is no way her performance was the performance of the night (Fantasia's first song or LaToya's second one owned that title IMO). I like Diana but if you listen note by note vs. the overall song - she has some real weak spots. I think the judges were playing her up to get her votes to prevent Jasmine being in the final three. They want the final three to be all people that could be successful.

Jasmine... poor sweetie had a rough night tonight... sorry to see her go, I think with more voice training she may be able to do something more with her talent. btw.. I love "It's Raining Men" but it is a VERY Difficult song for anyone to sing.
Diana.... very good tonight, very enjoyable. (hated the clothes tho)
Fantasia... ok... I try to listen to her and I just do NOT care for her style.... I find her utilization of Ya" Yaaaaa. Yaaaa" at the end of EACH and EVERY song she sings irratating. This is a lovely girl, full of life who may find a niche.... just not in my CD collection.
La Toya... again this woman sings rings around the other contestants... I think SHE IS SHOWING US WHO SHE IS EVERY WEEK!!! She is smooth, refined and graceful. What's wrong with that??

My opinion:

Fantasia is in complete command of the stage and of the audience - she certainly is the most comfortable and sure of herself. Her voice sort of bugs me at times, and I am really annoyed with the way she cocks her head to the side and sort of baby talks out a "Thank you, [Paula/Simon/Randy]" when she is complimented, but I think she is far and away the most all around talented of the group. I think also as Paula pointed out, she is good choosing material that suits her unusual voice.

La Toya, on the other hand, has sort of a default pretty voice. She's ummm, overally precise or something. Unlike Fantasia, I don't think she really thinks about what type of material she should or shouldn't sing. I have agreed with Randy throughout on La Toya - good, but nothing earth shattering.

Jasmine - such a sweet girl, I love her like I loved George, but even Jas seems to know that this is likely the end of her road. Pitch was a problem throughout the last few episodes, she is out of her league at this point but she gave it a good run.

Diana does a great job with difficult songs, particularly those that have high and low notes. I also agree with the judges in that she gets better every week.

At this point in order of best to worst, I'd say its Fantasia, Diana, La Toya, then Jasmine. They are all good though, and while I haven't enjoyed watching this season like I did last (where in hindsight I think Kim Locke was my favorite of the competition), I've still enjoyed it. :) Its one of the few shows I watch religiously and I probably will continue to do so as long as its on TV.

Jasmine. . . :earseek: Terrible performances both. What more is there to say. I really don't know how she made it this far.

Fantasia. . .you love her or hate her. I'm in the latter category although I realize there are many, many people who will enjoy her stylings. She does seem to connect with the audience when performing.

LaToya. . .I want to like her, I really, really do--but there's just something about her I can't put my finger on--she just doesn't do anything for me. . .no chills when she sings and I'm not moved by her performances. Quiet, unassuming and I just don't connect with her at all. She has a beautiful voice, but there are a lot of performers out there with the same type of voice--nothing unique about it.

Diana. . .a big surprise because I really haven't enjoyed her either. When I first heard her I thought "cute kid", she'll get better with age and darned if she hasn't improved greatly just over the course of this competition. I think she's pretty levelheaded and humble (or at least puts on a better act than Fantasia) and seems to engage the audience in her performances. I agree with the judges' opinions on last night's show--she did very well and, frankly, I enjoyed her performances (while probably not "technically" the best) most of the four.

I would not be a bit surprised to see Fantasia and LaToya sort of cancel one another out in the voting process (with Fantasia gone and LaToya left standing *fingers crossed*) and thereby permit Diana to slip into the final two.. I agree with everyone else though--Jas is gone tonight.

Truly though, I don't care who wins this year because I just don't feel that strongly about any of them. ::yes::
