Offical American Idol Discussion Thread

Tess: I couldn't agree more with you on all of your points. Last night we tried to pinpoint just what it is about LaToya....and Simon's comments were right on. Our opinion is she is so reserved and staid--almost to the point of being uninvolved both with the audience and with the judges. If you watch how she gets her feedback, it's respectful, but as if a glass wall is between her and the judges. No real facial emotions, etc. either way.
.....and poor Jasmine, she was REALLY bad last night.

WDW ON JUNE 24::yes:: :earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsgirl:

I still can't stand Fantasia.

La Toya is boring and nothing special and that was not her best performances, IMHO.

Jasmine was always one of my favorites but didn't do well last night...it seemed like she might have been sick it was so bad.

I am now focusing on Diana. She was by far the most fun, and exciting one last night. She did a GREAT job and I was so happy to hear the judges agree.

I voted for Diana last night.

Poor Jasmine.:(

Now if and when Diana leaves, and it's Fantasia and La Toya left, I haven't got a clue who I'd vote for. It just wouldn't even matter to me. I wouldn't buy either's CD and that is usually what I base it on.

At this point, as long as Jasmine goes tonight, I don't care who wins. They are all very different from each other, in my opinion. I know Fantasia and LaToya have been lumped in the same category before, but I think they are terribly different. And I enjoy all three of them.

This concept that F and L are "too old" for American Idol makes me feel REALLY old! 25 is not too old! Heck, Jennifer Lopez is older than me - and if you say she was at her peak 5 years ago, she was about 30. How could 25 be old?!?!

Tonight I am so surprised the judges were praising Diana after her performances, she was not that good! Now she just got an extreme ego boost and will be even more annoying. Am I the only one that is annoyed by her attitude? Especially after her second performance when she was all giddy and jumping up and down. I don't really like her voice because it's mostly screaming, but her attitude is what really bothers me!

My DD (former John Stevens voter) has now taken a huge liking to Diana. I think it is due to Diana's youth. Diana is 16 or 17. I'd jump up and down at that age too.
You can also add me to the list of newfound Diana supporters too. I have voted for Latoya all along, but I don't see any growth in her performances. I've been waiting for a "spark" from her because she definitely has the voice for one. I agee with Simon. Latoya has become boring.

Fantasia is not my cup of tea, but in response to the "too old" discussion, if I am correct, she is only 19.

Jasmine and Fantasia have strong, loyal fan bases. Jasmine may even pick up some sympathy votes.

Many that have pegged LaToya as the best from the get go (me included) simply because she was so much more polished than the others. But I never really got excited about her.

Now, with Diana improving, she may pick up some of LaToya's "talent" votes. Add in John Stephen's "young" votes and George's "nice" votes...

So...

Will LaToya be the one to go tonight? I hope not, but it would add shock value again like when Jennifer was voted off, which she really wasn't voted OFF, she just wasn't voted ON. Same could happen tonight with LaToya.

What do you think?

I agree that Jasmine should be the one to go tonight - but will she? She's a major celebrity in the Hawian islands now. They are pulling for her big time. Remeber - it's not usually the one that you think it's going to be. It depends on the votes. She should have left instead of George, but she had the votes. And - it's really a shame if she isn't the one to leave because she was clearly the weakest of the 4 finalists. But you never know. . .. We shall see tonight::yes::

Diana was the most surprising last night. She did great, and I think she must be reading this thread because she totally improved on the wardrobe choices last night. Her clothes were very flatering to her figure.

I have to agree with everyone who is saying it might NOT be Jasmine going tonight. Remember in Season 1 - Tamarya was voted out of the final four. I thought for sure that she was going to be in the top 2 and I was shocked when she got sent home so who knows. It's anyone's game at this point.

I have liked Latoya all along, but she seems so "distant" or something. Her second song was definitely better than her first.

I am not a Fantasia fan, but I personally thought that "Knock on Wood" was the best song of the night - not Diana's.

That said, I voted multiple times for Diana. She's the only one who seems to be getting better each week. She did a great job on both of her songs and DH and I are both impressed with her.

Poor Jasmine. She should have gone last week. She was bad and she knew it. She's not having fun anymore. I felt so badly for her when she was crying. She's a BEAUTIFUL girl. I think she should go into movies or TV.

You can tell that Latoya is trying to loosen up a bit. It's down to the wire now and she knows that is the one thing that can cost her the competition.

IMHO, whenever she tries to loosen up and move around and/or dance, she sings a little worse because she's out of breath. I noticed it a little last night and definitely on Latin music night!

There better not be any surprises tonite!! Jasmine gotta go!! If not, then let it be Fantasia!

Fantasia is all that...but I like LaToya better even though we don't know much about her (as Simon says). LaToya is mysterious to me- to all of us...like she is untouchable or something...and I like it! :)

How much did we really know about Ruben, other than he could sing really well and he stood there after with a cute grin on his face. He won.

Also, did anyone notice the bulging on Latoya's back. Her dress was pretty, but I couldn't help but notice this huge bulge on her back. Anyone?

Well, I didn't watch last night's show. I had other things to do and I have gotten to the point that I'm not interested enough in AI to tape it to watch later.

I do agree with other posters about Fantasia and LaToya. While they are both great singers, LaToya just doesn't move me. I like Fantasia better because she seems to connect with the crowd and she connects with me. There is nothing wrong with being refined and graceful but some emotion needs to show. Maybe LaToya showed some last night, I don't know. But if I were voting this season, Fantasia would have gotten my vote almost every week. Sure, some of the things that she does annoys me but for the most part, I feel that she is better than LaToya because of her stage personality.

I didn't watch last night - I recorded it and might watch it at some time. I really don't care at this point - I'll probably watch the last 5 minutes of tonight's show.

Fantasia bugs me big-time. Can't stand her voice. I'm a LaToya fan at this point. Would I buy her CD? No - but then I didn't buy Kelly's or Reuben's either. (I DID buy Clay's.)

I thought everyone but Jas did good last night.

I am not a fan of Fantasia's voice. I don't like the Macy Gray type of voice and I don't see why they say she has something different. She sounds like Macy Gray, that's not different.
Fantasia also needs to get some pants that fit. She was yanking them up in the back on her second song and that just looked tacky. Just because you can wear them doesn't mean you should.

We had company last night so was not able to give AI my complete attention. Jasmine looked so pretty last night but Simon and Randy were awfully hard on her. They almost seemed annoyed that she is up there on stage. Simon's digs used to be kind of amusing and they were softened somewhat by Paula's kinder praise and Randy's stupid dawg comments. The judges really bothered me this season---
I think LaToya hit the nail on the head last night when she said something like all 4 of them will have careers out of this. At this point I don't care who wins. My favorite this season is Ryan. Seacrest out----------

I couldn't watch last night because I had things to study for, but it sounds like I didn't miss that much, bases on other comments. Poor Jasmine, she's been having off-key moments from the start, but according to everyone here she didn't have a single note in tune. She should go.

I disagree with people who seem to think that it is a problem to be "too young" or "too old." As I said before, it's the talent and personality that matters, IMO. Based on what I've seen before and on people's comments from last night, the final four from my least to most favorite are as follows, Jasmine, Fantasia, Diana, LaToya. Jasmine has frequent pitch problems, which should not be a characteristic of a professional singer. Fantasia still irks me as always, I still can't stand her screechy helium voice or her attention-grabbing personality. Diana, never was my favorite, but she impressed me last week. LaToya is my favorite. She has an outstanding voice, and I think she has a great personality. Just because she doesn't seek attention like Fantasia does, does not make her an "ice queen." Just because she doesn't retort back to the judges' comments does not mean she has a "glass wall" between her and them. I like how she actually listens to what they have to say. I would love for LaToya to win. Either Jasmine or Fantasia should go tonight IMO, but I think it will be Jasmine.
