Off-topic randomness - a place to ramble?

LEIK OMG!! OMG!! OMG!! I GOT IT!!!

OK...so I finish up my hour of practice time and walk back into the Recording Studio for my "Computers in Music Class." And as I walk in, my teacher is talking to the guy who was looking for that student conductor...apparently to put in some good words for me and talking it up with him, and he hands the phone to me...

...because I got the job!!! I'm going to be the guy's right hand man during the rehearsals and performances of the local ballet's production of The Nutcracker, which involves our local professional symphony's musicians. So I start private conducting/score-reading lessons with him next week...and by the rehearsals he said he'll have me run through the overture among other things with the orchestra. And if he has to run and resolve a conflict, I'll be his guy to pick up the baton.

OMG OMG...I'm even more excited than I was before. Watch me do a happy dance!!

Oh... I did something like this when I was in college -- chased somebody who stole stuff from labs. I didn't catch them, either, but was able to give a pretty good description.

But afterwards, it was pointed out to me that this really isn't such a good idea. A fleeing criminal will not do any (immediate) harm. But, a cornered guy might decide it's easier just to turn around and, say, shoot you.

I think in this sort of situation, it might be better to let them go, rather than risk a tragedy. Still, I'm glad it all turned out well.

Yeah, that's what the policeman said. He said you never know what could be on them these days. Oh and BTW, the kid we were chasing was like 13!

We went to the Flames preseason home opener last week. We brought our boy to his first hockey game. (Well he went to a playoff game before he was born, but that doesn't really count)

We are so glad hockey is back! Calgary has basically sold out the entire regular season. It's been a long time since people here were so excited about hockey.

That is truly an awesome opportunity to be able to work with professional arts companies while you're still in school. I'm sure it will be an excellent learning experience, and just think of all of the connections you will make!

Heading off to WDW in about 30 minutes until the end of the week, with the Beasts in tow.

I'll be sure to find a bench on Main Street, get some popcorn (since the real world seems to have people more effective at keeping their carts in working order), and try not to do too many of things Surferrat mentioned in his thread. (I keep on clicking my Beast's ignore button, but I can STILL hear her whining! Can I boot her?)

Have a wonderful time! Remember a bright spot on your trip, you won't find Hagen waiting at the popcorn cart, breaking out into his 'off-key' renderings of Disney songs!
