off the Beaten Path at MK?

What are some of the "off the beaten path" things you like to see and do at Magic Kingdom?

you know like someone mentioned about the dressmakers shop taking photopass posed photos (which I'd still like to find out more info about too)

You know... everyone goes to ride the rides and see the characters. What things do you think are overlooked hidden treasures?

Well, this isn't at MK and I'm not sure it's hidden but I do love doing the Pick-a-Pearl thing at Japan in WS in Epcot! It's super fun!

In Liberty Square you can look at the laterns in the tree and think about the colonies. They have flags for the colonies. You can also look at the doorways and windows. One window has a gun of a soldier ready to go. Another window has two laterns for the famous warning.

Our last trip we used a book called the Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World.

It lead us to the chess game that can never be won (POTC), we heard tap dancing and singing lessons just off main street. It was really fun and added some cool moments to our last trip. We will do more next trip.

I agree there isn't much off the beaten path at MK. I would say Tom Sawyer Island is little off the beaten path in that even with the not so secret paint brush hunt, a lot of people still don't go there. Take notice of how pretty the area is around Spalsh Mountain. It's very pretty at night with the trees lit up and the bird houses hanging in the trees.

Is the Firehouse still there? because I heard it might be remodeled now? It's buildings like that where people don't notice the little things that really make it special. The details are what makes MK special.

The Ye Old Christmas shop next to the HM is also a little off, as many people skip this shop. It's small and cozy inside.

Look out for the Writer's Stop in HS, it has a very low-key sign and position, so people don't tend to notice it and it's like Starbucks, very cozy feel.

I haven't had the time to find nooks in AK, but I would like to.

When ds falls asleep in his stroller dh and I get a snack (usually a waffle bowl hot fudge sundae from the main st ice-cream parlor) and sit in the alcove off main st and listen to the tap dancing and singing lessons coming from the shops above main street! As long as a parade isn't going by it's almost like you're in another world! When it was open, the path between space mtn and toon town was nice. We also take a break on the benches by the entrance to the people mover. They are usually shaded and almost always empty. The games in the main st train station are neat too.

I want to take some time to look through the places like the firehouse and such during this trip. I don't think I've ever gone in there and always just pass it by but I want to check out the little things this time.

Would love to hear more about 'little things' that interest people at WDW that you miss if you're in a hurry. We're going to be there longer this trip, and it will be our 4th time there, so I hope we'll take more time to stop and smell the roses (or the chocolate, caramel, etc.)!

I clicked on the thread because I have a few for the Magic Kingdom.

Pirate Jack's Tutorial -- didn't expect he'd pick my daughter to be part of it but fun to watch even if you don't get to play

The little boats down by the Jungle Cruise (which costs a couple of bucks if you want to drive one).

Daughter loves the Move It! Shake It! parade -- she won't dance with the characters but she likes to dance with the guys on stilts or other hired dancers

Watching the glass blowers on Main Street.

The Trolly Parade (really singer/dancers who get off the trolly and perform)

The rose garden in front of Cinderella's castle, or sitting in the gazebo there and people watching or watching the waterfall (or waterfowl, often as not)

The mosaics in Cinderella's castle. I like the wishing well, too, but not enough to justify having to plow through so much cigarette smoke to get to it.

Swiss Family Robinson tree house -- the rooms are smaller than in the movie, but you can see a long way from up there!

Seconding Tom Sawyer's Island. I like to sit in the rockers and watch BTMRR across the way.

Ride the train all the way around. Or the People Mover in Tomorrowland.

We've done enough trips that the attractions are almost a second motive to going to the MK.... It's just a thrill to be in that park, especially at night when all the lights are on....just sitting on a bench and snacking is a treat...

Yeah, we have a few favorite attractions but we do them at RP ...and then look for the small things...wife can go in and out of gift shops till the cows come home, we enjoy just cruising around Tomorrowland and Frontierland...snack here and there....wife enjoys the big dill pickles from the market in Liberty Square...we tend to avoid Fantastland.......too mobbed and just a pain to manuever....but check out all the little side streets off of Main Street, go down by the water moat at the castle and have an ice cream...

We enjoy discovering Hidden Mickeys. Barrett's book is a good way to get started, but there are ever more there just waiting to be found.
