***October 2012 Thread*** MNSSHP + Food & Wine - Does It Get Any Better?

I cant believe I JUST found the Oct thread!!! I have been planning this trip since May 2011 and finally someone to talk about it with!!! :)

We have been to disney several times, but this is our first going in Oct and MNSSHP!!! SOOOO excited!!! We have already purchased our costumes... my boys are going to be pirates and the girls Minnie mouses. I will be a cat, my husband is wearing a big inflatable pirate hat and grandma who is going along is going to be a wizard.

This will be our first offsite trip... with a family of six, we just couldnt make onsite work at this point and will be staying in a house in windsor hills. Very anxious to see how that is going to be!

Since we arent staying onsite or doing the dining plan, I only planned two ADRs, at the kids' requests... Garden Grill for dinner one night and Cape May for breakfast. I made ressies for a couple days and will cancel the ones I dont need when I have a better idea of weather closer to. I dont want to get major rain on our MNSSHP night!!! Anyone else worried at all about that?!

:welcome: to our thread! Glad you found us...FINALLY! If you are on Facebook and are interested, come join us over there. We're quite the chatty bunch at times!

We are also a family of 6! :) We stayed at Windsor Hills 2 years ago for the same reason, a family of 6, with growing kids, doesn't really fit in the family suites anymore. We didn't really want adjoining rooms and couldn't afford to bump up to Deluxe so we tried out Windsor Hills and loved it. I could not imagine staying off property but it was great. The ONLY problem we have with it is when we Park Hop, we have to be sure we can easily get back to our minivan or drive to the park we are hopping to.

And, it rained on us, 4 years ago, during MNSSHP. It was an on/off rain and they managed to get the parade in. The Villians stage show was cancelled after several attempts. Everything else, including lots of trick or treating, went on like normal. No or little wait, as far as I remember. It was still great fun and we have no regrets. Airline tickets are so high this trip that we will not be doing MNSSHP. But that's ok. Better than 16 hour drive down. :)

Hi! I am Amber and I am going in October too! I am so excited to make our ADR's tomorrow! We are going October 21st - 27th and staying at POR.
We have been to Disney many times but it is DD2's first trip and our first time driving.
It will be me, DH, DD5, DD2 and my mom and dad. My mom and Dad are staying at the POLY for the same dates.
This will be my third MNSSHP and I can't wait. The girls are going dressed as the stepsisters. We are planning to go to 1900 Park Fare before the party. (ADR's tomorrow) 2 years ago DD5 (3 at the time) Went as Drizella and we had a blast.
I look forward to hearing more about everyone's trips.

Anybody know what's going on with DHS on the 25th? The Disney website lists a park closing time of 6pm but the travel agent calendar lists the normal 8PM time. The 25th was our Fantastmic night, but with ADRs tomorrow I need to know if I need to make a last-minute move around of days.

That week is the annual Gartner IT symposium ... a very large IT convention that takes over the Swan/Dolphin, and much of the Boardwalk resort area. I've been down a few times during that week, and they've been known to close DHS early that week for a private Gartner event. Could be the 25th this year?

Today was my ADR day & we got everything we wanted at the time we wanted :woohoo:

10/20 Chef Mickey's for dinner (this was the only one we didn't get the exact time we wanted but it's just 20 minutes later, yeah!)
10/21 Crystal Palace for breakfast
10/22 Coral Reef for dinner
10/23 SciFi for lunch
10/24 Kona for dinner
10/26 Kona for breakfast
10/27 O'hana for breakfast

Oh how I wish October wasn't so far away!

Alright, dining reservations are made, but I accidentally reserved a breakfast at 1900 Park Faire for today, the 24th. Whoops. I was going back to bed but I guess I'll have to stay up another half-hour to call and cancel, as it won't give me the option on the site.

Here's hoping I don't get charged that $10 for canceling within a day of the reservation. Urgh.

ADR's confirmed but I could not make dining reservations on-line. Their system did not recognize my reservation # so I had to call in. Wait time was about 35 minutes. I was able to get the restaurants I wanted (Le Cellier, Sci-Fi, Via Napoli, and Cape May). However only avaiable time for Cape May for all of my dates was 8:00 PM. Must be some type of glitch in their system. I'll call back in a few days and hopefully I can change the Cape May ressie to an earlier time.

Yeah!!! So wonderful to hear of others who stayed at WH and loved it!!! I am really excited about the washer/dryer and pool and just having the space. Last time we stayed at WL and after a week during which three of us got the stomach flu for two days, we just needed more space so badly! I am anxious about it, I have loved being onsite so hearing this is really helpful. We are going without park hoppers this time... we normally only hop the last day for favorites so we decided we would try a trip without them and put that money towards MNSSHP.

And you are SO right about the plane tickets this year! Yikes!

Just made reservations for October 13-18 at the Port Orleans Riverside Royal Rooms!! So excited. It will be my youngest DD's first visit. All my oldest DD can talk about is the MNSSHP she went to when she was 3 and how she can't wait to go again. Also planning on trying Universal the 18-21.

So this is actually my first post on DIS...I just couldnt take it anymore!! I am so excited!! I'm Lora and Im going in Oct for 11 days!!!! whooooot!!!!:cheer2: :woohoo: :cloud9: :cool1:

So I missed my 180 ADR date. (so upset) I am now scrabbling to hopefully still get a few things I wanted. Looking through some of you plans to get some ideas. I will post reservations very soon, I'm finishing up now. Any suggestions welcome as I have never been during food and wine fest. My main concern is that I was hoping to have dinner at ohana and watch wishes on beach after. The only time left were 5:10 and 8pm. I took the 5....Is that way to early ?

So, I've decided to stick to my plans for park days and ADRs despite DHS hours questions for the 23rd and 25th. If we miss Fantasmic! on the 25th we'll hop over on the 26th to catch it. We've stood in the back for the show before and it was fine. Probably end up there again. Early morning CRT is my main concern anyway. Gearing up for my 4:45 am alarm tomorrow morning. Gah!

My guess is yes, its too early as wishes is scheduled at 9:00 PM most nights in October. I hope you checked the WDW theme park operating hours before booked this reservation. There are some nights in October when Wishes is not performed.
