October 2011 Car Rental Rates

Nooooooooooooo, Alamo updated their last minute specials and the list DOES NOT INCLUDE ORlando! :sad2:

i'm holding out hope that maybe next week a drop may happen for my rental date. I know in sept people were posting price drops up until day before departure, although i'm seriously thrilled with paying $104 for a standard on alamo for 8 days, just wish it were with national to help retain level.

I just took a look at the hours. I had most of them written down from when they first came out, and the only one that I can see that has changed is MK on Oct 1st for the 40th Anniversary.

fantasmic has been added every night.

i'm confused re MK parks hours on 10/2 (pm emh but we're staying offsite), have seen both 10 pm & 9 pm posted in different places:confused3

This depends on the rental company. See the pricing on this page.

Alamo, National, and Enterprise are actually very reasonable: $2 fee per day only on days that tolls are used, with $6 maximum for whole rental...plus the actual tolls.

Dollar and Thrifty are ridiculously expensive: $6.99 per day of your rental, with a $36.99 maximum per week....but that includes the tolls. But you have to pay on days you don't use any tolls.

I have Dollar, as they have most competitve rates for my dates of 10/6-10/14. I have a pickup at MCO and a dropoff at JAX, so most of the rates are sky-high!! Plus Dollar also has the $25 adinistrative fee attached as well.

I just receive my SunPass in the mail the other day.

I agree. I had to "race" to the Houston airport a few weeks ago. I just let Natinoal bill me the $2 so I didn't have to wait in line to pay cash. It was worth it to make my plane :)

However, if I was with Dollar I would have paid a LOT for that "privledge" Just a rip off IMHO.

The tolls in Central Florida still have cash options, so you can still pay cash at the tolls. If and when it does occur it's still 2-3 years off, from what I've read on this board.

Sorry..haven't rented a car before...agencies charge u for tolls? Wouldn't I just pay for them when I go thru?? Confused!

You can still pay cash for the tolls, just veer, to the right and stop at the toll both that accepts cash.

The tolls are supposed to be going cashless now. My last trip, I also hit a cashless toll and exact change only (no toll collector). I did send in the money, but it definitely ruined my day since I didn't know what was going to happen. Plus, my trip will bring me to Tampa, Orlando and Jacksonville and I don't want to have any poblems.

I was starting to worry about tolls after reading this thread but did some research.

Sounds like I'm all set from MCO to Disney and back as long as I have plenty of quarters. :)

One less fee for the rental company and one less thing for me to worry about.

A new $35 off coupon for insiders to replace the American Airlines $35 coupon people have been using.

AD2724FZA

It is valid on Economy through Fullsize.

I fill an old Airborne tube with quarters and leave it in the rental car during the course of our trips. The long tubes (the size one can buy at Costco, Sam's, etc.) carry $18 worth of quarters. The regular size carries about $10 worth.

Sweet, Thanks!

With 7014667 I am down to $204, saved me another $5. Do I still need to show my American Airlines member card for this one?

You guys are not going to believe this, but I just checked the Alamo site using these codes and I got "Alamo is completely sold out at the Orlando International Airport for 10/20 to 10/29". :scared1: WTH??? I guess I'll keep trying, but this doesn't mean no last minute deals. UGH

Hey, wanted to mention that the code you tried last week is now working on my dates (10/15). Before I got the sold out code like you do, but today it works. It let me go in and modify without changing my rate to the new current high one. It kept my low rate and now let me switch my insider code of 7015135 to 7014667, giving me a much lower rate. You might want to try it. I got a total of $300 for a 2 week rental (standard size car). I'm still looking at $500 with National, so a $200 difference....that's pretty huge.

Looks like this code now works for late Oct. Seems like they opened it up instead of blocking people out. Right now that too bad it's currently higher than what I had before. Will keep a eye on it to see if it drops.

I was able to swap out codes on my current reservation and now I'm down below $200. :)

No joke - Rack rate for a mid-size car is $32/day! And for some odd reason, economy is $35/day. :scared1: Hope everyone got good rates last week!
Yeah, rates kinda jumped up today.

Thank you for posting this! I will try it later....after my daughter finishes typing her homework.

I tried to modify my reservation, but it charged me the higher rate that is showing today.

THANKS! Just saved $23! :goodvibes

Codes seem to be a hit or miss for certain people. Also the vehicle class has a big thing to do with cost. I tired it with my STD SUV reservation and it went from $300 to $500 while my standard car reaervation went down $20.

That is strange. It worked for some of us, but not all of us. It must have something to do with the car class. I did try to switch my coupon from the one I was using to the new insider one, but it changed my rate, so I stuck with the original coupon.

I've been trying without success to add myself to existing res under DH's name as additional driver. No matter what I do when completing the Kiosk checkin, finding that "I" up the rate aprox $10 a day:headache:

I thought that spouses were automatically covered under the alamo insider program and did find confirmation of same in a search on the website
.
I called insider's number for alamo 800-882-5266 and was told 'every insider' wanting a free spousal rental added to a reservation must stop by the counter to produce the DL. Also that you cannot add additional renter to res online w/o incurring the daily fee. I asked if it was a one time thing (which I understand entirely to confirm ID, etc.) but was told 'no, you have to present the additional driver/DL @ counter each trip.:confused3If it's the drill, i'll do it, but doesn't sound right to me.

I'll call Alamo again tomorrow during business hours, but can any alamo reg renters confirm the above is true (i do so hate to waste a good whine:rolleyes1)?

My experience with National's Emerald Club is that the spouse is an authorized driver not an additional driver. As an authorized driver I've never had to show them my Driver's license, but as an additional driver with Alamo (before Insiders) and Thrifty I did need to show the DL.

I got an Alamo Rental ---Van..8 days for $208 including taxes and fees! :) I joined the Alamo Insider!...It was a $35 coupon! :)

Can I ask what days you are renting and what inside and coupon codes you used? I need a minivan for our stay of 10 days and the rate you quote is perfect! Thanks in advance!
