October 2011 Car Rental Rates

I think the last minute rates are starting to moving into Columbis Day weekend which would result in higher rates. I'm hoping once we get away from that weekend, the rates will start to fall again. I have a fair rate with Alamo right now, but still hoping for a better price for National. I agree that the rates can change anytime according to what might be going on in Orlando (conference, higher attendance). I just saw on one of the boards here that the hours for October have just changed and increased. While many are thrilled with the longer hours now, not me. Longer hours is an indicator of high attendance (= bigger crowds). Hopefully everyone going soon is happy with their price. It sure sounds like alot of Sept/early Oct folks got some great rates.

Yup my 10/14-10/22 rate doubled from the $168 I booked at. I hope it is just a blip and they start coming back down again.

I could be 100% wrong....but Maybe its because its the "end" of a promotion time.....I think Alamos ends on the 26th....and then another one starts after?....Hotwire is still the same as yesterday for the mini van....

Strange that so many of yours are skyrocketing. Mine is still, wait for it..... the exact same!

At least it's a good rate, even if I would prefer lower :-)

I'm waiting for this afternoon in the hopes that the last minute rates are extended for my week (week before columbus day)

BUT, I'm okay with the rate we have if I can't get better. It's not as great as I've had in the past but not the highest we've had to pay either.

We have $136ish with all the fees, etc for 10/3 10am to 10/7 5pm for compact. I'd like to upgrade the car type but until the rates drop I can't, lol

Nooooooooooooo, Alamo updated their last minute specials and the list DOES NOT INCLUDE ORlando! :sad2:

I had a feeling that the Columbus Day weekend might cause this. This just means attendance is high and they don't need to entice anyone to rent. Did you see my earlier post that WDW has extended their hours too? Yep, we know what that means.

We aren't even renting over columbus day but I guess a lot of people come in the week before and stay through the long weekend so demand in our week is higher too.

I knew they extended hours on the 40th anniversary but didn't see it for other days, I need to check that out for our trip. Our 2 yr old doesn't make it much past 8pm but I'm trying to lure my mom over from Clearwater for a night so we can go ride the bid kid rides without her, lol

Where did you see the schedule change of hours?

I just took a look at the hours. I had most of them written down from when they first came out, and the only one that I can see that has changed is MK on Oct 1st for the 40th Anniversary.

I too checked my hours against what I had written down a few months ago. My dates are 10/4-10/12 and most of the changes were an extra hour or two for MK and DHS. I won't list every day that changed but the one day that stands out for me is the MK and DHS on 10/8 (Sat) where MK went from 10p to midnight and DHS went from 7p to 9p. The rest of the weekend changed as well. EC was the only one that stays the same. I did not include AK since we are not planning on visiting there this time around.

So it looks like bookings are up around the weekend and the car companies are falling in line as well. Gee lucky us!

Greedy stinking rental companies

Its probably our fault by putting MCO in and our dates checking rates every few hours. So by examining searches they think there is high demand.:lmao:

Well I am glad I grabbed by $100 midsize reservation for 9/27-10/6. But my dreams of $89 are all but gone.

Good luck to the others still searching for a rental hopefully you will find a rate you can live with.

I have a decent October rate with Dollar ($170 10/18-10/23).
Our flight was recently changed to arrive a half hour later than originally scheduled. So- we are arriving at 11:38PM- the car ressie has a pick up time of 11:30PM.
If I try to modify the pickup time to midnight, I will lose the rate I have.
Do any Dollar users know if Dollar still honor my reservation if I get to the counter 30 min-1hour late?

EDIT: Found the answer in Dollar's fine-print : 'Reservations will be honored for 6 hours after their scheduled pick up time'.

There's always Priceline, I got a full size (Alamo) for $15 per day Oct 5-11. Comes to less than $150 with all taxes. Bid was accepted late last week.

Here's the tread from the theme park board:

Looks like it's an advance notice to TAs first....it bears watching.
I just checked the TA page for Oct, and it seems it's been updated, but the official hours haven't. Interesting. I think the only day that changes significantly for us is Oct 1st and Oct 3rd for Magic Kingdom (although I may have had the 3rd written down wrong...)

Yeah, I'm waiting on Priceline due to you can't make changes.

Check out easyWDW.com. The updated October hours are there in a much easier to read format.
