October 2011 Car Rental Rates

Also, has anyone brought down their own SunPass? I just ordered one, so I don't have to deal with the car rental agencies high rates for tolls.

Sorry..messed up quote on my phone...what about high rates for tolls for car rental agencies???

Most rental agencies charge you an admin fee, daily fee and the tolls. That can turn out to be quite the amount of money. you have no choice now because the tolls are being ashless.

I went to sunpass.com and ordered one of my own for $25. I almost always rent a car, so it shoud pay for itself quickly. I just never did it before.

The tolls in Central Florida still have cash options, so you can still pay cash at the tolls. If and when it does occur it's still 2-3 years off, from what I've read on this board.

You can still pay cash for the tolls, just veer, to the right and stop at the toll both that accepts cash.

This depends on the rental company. See the pricing on this page.

Alamo, National, and Enterprise are actually very reasonable: $2 fee per day only on days that tolls are used, with $6 maximum for whole rental...plus the actual tolls.

Dollar and Thrifty are ridiculously expensive: $6.99 per day of your rental, with a $36.99 maximum per week....but that includes the tolls. But you have to pay on days you don't use any tolls.

National, Alamo and Enterprise have the most renter-friendly policies on tolls. I typically pay my tolls in cash/coin but it's reassuring to know that if I miss one my liability is virtually nil.

:scared1:checked my alamo res, it more than doubled since this am

I saw that too! Though National is still unchanged. Since Alamo has been so low, maybe National will start dropping now! I can only hope. Still looking at a total of $500 for a 2 week rental for the EA.

believe tomorrow should be the date that the IG code or perhaps extention of $40 coupon for Alamo would work for my rental.

you should see 1st drop if past pattern holds:wizard:

My rate almost doubled today too. Tried a ton of different codes, and all were more. Rates are on the up today...weird. :confused3

Strange, my Alamo rate more than doubled to over $200 today. Glad I reserved low ($94)! But I tried without any codes today and the base rate is the same; no change using any or no codes. Like the codes have been turned off.

Hi everyone, glad I found this forum!

I am looking on getting into Orlando Oct 18 - 28 (10 days). The rates at alamo are over 300 bucks using various codes. After reading several posts on here, is it safe to assume that the best rate is always 2 weeks to 1 week before you travel? I always thought it was cheaper to rent 30 days in advance.

That leads to me to ask if you reserve with alamo say today at 300 dollars, and next week you see the rate at 200, can you just cancel your reservation and re-reserve without penalty?

BLAH, when do they extend the IG rates??? I have a 10/3 pick up and I thought it would be extended today. Now the rates are UP, lol... I think they enjoy torturing us! LOL

Cloves, there is no guarantee the rates will drop as the dates get closer. It's really all based on supply/demand. If your dates are during the holiday week, chances are they won't go down too much as many others travel that week so demand is higher. If you book a regular reservation without prepaying, yes you can either modify your existing reservation or cancel that one and book a new one. Some things can't be changed, for example I had a free day coupon code that says it has been used when I try to modify my reservation.

I am still hoping for a great deal and I won't care about losing that free day.

last few weeks i didn't see the flip until late afternoon, yes i have been stalking it lol

I agree. I had to "race" to the Houston airport a few weeks ago. I just let Natinoal bill me the $2 so I didn't have to wait in line to pay cash. It was worth it to make my plane :)

However, if I was with Dollar I would have paid a LOT for that "privledge" Just a rip off IMHO.

NO! It is NOT safe to assume they will go down. It's supply and demand driven and it can actually go up! I have seen that happen quite often. If there is a big convention, holiday, etc... rates are only going up the closer you get.

Yes, on Alamo you can just cancel and rebook.

This combination is still cheapest for us, but it's now $161! It's down over $100 from a week ago.

ETA: Or not! The combination of 7014667 and the Visa $30 coupon (AD2338FDF) gets us a standard for $154. Every little bit helps!

Thanks, this dropped me from $233 down to $209! (Renting at Car care center.)

Rates are still high for late Oct. Hopefully once the last minute deals for Sept. expire they will have some for Oct.
