October 2010 Car Rentals

My rate is still higher for 7 days. I am still checking though. I'm still too far out for Priceline. We leave October 7th

I don't have time to read the whole thread, so I'll just report the deal I just got:

Alamo
Sept 29-Oct 10 (11 days)
Full Size (Impala)
$12.83 per day- before taxes
$210.08 (incl all taxes)

I used the Visa Corp ID# 7015210
And the Visa Coupon # AD8219SDM (20% off + $30.00 off)

I'm VERY happy with that.

thank you for posting your codes.

full size
154.77 per week - total with taxes = $159.53

going to dad's before disney so picking up in tampa oct 21

I used the Sams Club code (need the free additional driver) and Entertainment online coupon code $30 off and was able to get a full size for 9 days for $190 after taxes. Can someone tell me if at Alamo you pick from a category like at National or are you assigned a car?

Alamo does NOT have the "aisles". You get what level you reserve at Alamo. So if you reserve a full size, you do go down a "full size" aisle and choose the car/color you wish. I only use Alamo if I need a minivan and the price is the best. Other than that, I stick with National to take advantage of the "aisle" upgrade selection.

How long do you uaually wait? We leave 10/15 and I have a minivan for $358, but it seems high to me. I've been trying a $20 bid for a van a few times a week and also 12 for a full size that I read as a winning bid on another thread, but I've been rejected for both. Do you think I should wait a few weeks and keep trying at those prices or do you think they are just too low? Any feedback would be appreciated! Thanks

Thank you! I was wondering if you got to pick a car or if they gave you the keys and told you which car was yours. What cars are usually on the full-size row at Alamo?

Yea, dollar does the assigned car method -- not my favorite.

Generally the full size cars are Impalas (which have huge trunk space), sometimes Ford Taurus. Not sure as we always end up with these as full size choices at Alamo and National. I know what you mean about choosing your own car...the color is important to us, it's a pain to get a white car!

Yes you get to pick you own car ... usually on the full size aisle you'll find Impalas, Chargers, Grand Marquis

Thank you both! I'm so used to the "here is your keys go to space E7"! The thought of picking which full-size I want is just great to me!

We rented from Dollar last month & chose our own car in the garage just like the Alamo method. I don't know if this is new or not, but I didn't see them assigning cars to anyone. Everyone was choosing their own.

That is good to know, I will check dollar rates now also. I never even checked them out because I love picking out my own car.
Thanks :thumbsup2

That's good to know. When renting from them in previous years, you would go inside to the counter to pay, then went to a kiosk in the gargage where they would hand you a key and tell you which spot to find your car. Glad to hear that they are changing! I might add them back to my list. Sometimes they are pretty good when it comes to minivans.

Glad to know about Dollar. I love that I get to pick my own car. I am also glad that I booked when I did because I haven't been able to find a minivan available when doing price searches. Budget and Alamo are both sold out for my pick up date - October 7th. That makes me believe that I won't get anything on Priceline because there won't be any vans around to rent.

So I just called MCO's Dollar counter and the rep told me that I have to go to the counter first where they assign you your vehicle and then you go to the garage. They did say that you can request a certain type of car, color, or feature that the car may have. I was specifically after a Grand Caravan vs. Caravan and he said that it would be no problem to make the request at the counter and if they have it they would give it to you.

Horselover - how did you get to bypass the counter? Did you actually go to the counter and they sent you out or did you just go right to the garage yourself without going to the counter?

We went to the counter. I wish they had kiosks like Alamo. I had done I think it's Rapid Rental, so they already had most of my info. Pleasantly surprised to not receive the heavy sell on the insurance. The rep handed me my contract & sent us to the garage to pick out our own car on the mid-size aisle. It was pretty quick & painless. I still prefer Alamo but I would rent from Dollar again if their prices were better.

That sounds good to me. I am going to do the Rapid Rental and see where that gets me - hopefully to the garage!

Just rebooked thru Alamo for a full-size Oct 1-10 using Sams Club code and $30 Entertainment coupon and my rate is $168 now!

This is the same rate I am getting via carrentalsavers
Can you tell me what the code and coupon are from? (ie walmart, visa, etc)

Google those codes and you can see all the previous DIS board discussions. The first code is a Travelocity code anyone can use, and the second is an ecoupon that will take an additional $25 off at rental, no physical coupon required.

I have a minivan through Budget 10/13-10/20 for $302 using X474200, and MUWZ023. Hope it is still works for some others.

Just used this to book a mini van for Oct 2-9th. It's the best I've found so far - thanks!

THANKS for those codes...I just booked a mini van for October 16 thru 25th for $415.21. I haven't rented with Budget before, so I hope it is good. I signed up for their FastBreak...but how does that work? Do I need to prepay in order to use that service??

THANK YOU! :goodvibes
