October 2010 Car Rentals

I have usually only driven from Michigan... but timing is a bit tight for this vacation as work has cut back on the vaca days allowed. I have never rented a car down in florida... and the prices are outrageous for a 9 day rental at MCO.

Its like $318 for the trip but then to add on the loss damage protection it adds another $250 into the price pushing $600.

Do people normally get that extra protection? what happens if you don't get it and somebody steals/damages your rental?

I am not seeing how this is justifying flying and renting (around $1100) when i can drive and pay $200 RT for gas

any explanation would be appreciated. Oh and Oct 9th - Oct 18th is our dates

Check with your insurance agent. If you have comprehensive & collision coverage, your personal policy should cover it just like if it was your car. Certain credit cards have secondary coverage which would cover your deductible. Ask if one has "loss of use" coverage, which the rental company can charge you for the time the vehicle is not available for them to rent while it is being repaired.

Yeah, that "Loss of use" is a real pain. Our insurance does not cover it and neither does our credit card. Still not sure if I want to pay the high amount for the extra insurance through the rental company.

Just scored a National midsized (Emerald Aisle) for $174 incl taxes for 8 days (Sept 25 - Oct 3). Used the $25 off coupon from Mousesavers (says that it expires on 8/31 but it worked for me) and the Emerald Club Contract ID.

Hope this helps someone.

I am having trouble getting a decent rate as well. Have tried most of the codes listed in this thread, as well as others and it's still too expensive. I rented a car for 10 days in May for $163 all inclusive. I can't find anything for 7 days (Oct. 16-23) for under $250 all inclusive.

Will just keep trying.

national is our prefered rental car company (DH ExAisle), but i always book both it & alamo, then cancel whichever i don't use.

i was able to modify long-existing alamo res today, new rate for 8 days beginning 10/3 is $155.42:).

as we don't rent from them often, not sure if they'll honor my SAMSclub code & $30 VISA coupon AD8219SDM :confused3 (although we will be paying w/aVISA card).

Nagging thought that they might not let us 'mix & match' codes/coupons anybody know if it'll work?

So I am still not keen on $528.46 for an SUV, but it is over $300 less than it was a couple of weeks ago through Alamo. With two kids, bags and a stroller, I just don't think that a mid size through National (though it would be half the price) is a good option for us. I am still going to bid on Priceline with hopes of getting at least $100 off of that price. I signed up too for Alamo's *********** thing, so now we should be able to skip the rental counter which is great! THANKS for the $30 Visa code it worked for me. :dance3:

Just wanted to let you know that another poster here found that the $40 coupon works for rentals in September ... it worked for me :) ND1881JDK

Can I ask where you found the Sams Club code...I'm a member, but have never found where they have their codes.

Thanks!

the SAMS clubs in my area have flyers on rack by front door w/current travel discounts or you can try booking on their travel website direct (although i never seem to get the best rates that way).

I got $232 for 10 days with Alamo using the 20% off Mastercard contract ID code on Expedia. Can I also use a coupon? Where do you put the coupon code when you are signing up for the rate?

Thank you so much!! I just entered a coupon off of the MouseSavers website and got another $16.41 off my rental for a total of $214.92 for a compact for 10 days. :cool1:

Has anyone found any new deals/rates for October? I am still looking for something from evening of 10/15 thru early morning of 10/23. Cheapest I have found with rate codes and coupons is $250.

I have a standard from Alamo for $193.96 (Oct 14-22).
I make the reservation months ago and haven't checked to see if the rate is still the same.

Contract Id: 7012032 (use your Master Card)
I also used the Free Upgrade coupon on the Alamo Site.

Good Luck!

Never mind- I just checked and it's now $423 using these codes!

I'm going Oct. 13-19 and booked a midsize from Alamo for $212 including taxes using the Costco code and the $30 off weekly coupon, but I booked it in May. I just checked, and the same car would cost me $285 now.:scared1: The discount also dropped from $20.29 to $8.10. Guess they lowered the percentage since it says "save up to 25%".
