October 2010 Car Rentals

That sounds good to me. I am going to do the Rapid Rental and see where that gets me - hopefully to the garage!

our 1st time renting with them after signing up for rapid rewards (or whatever it's called) still had to stop @ counter in terminal & show ID/CC, etc. & decline all the goodies they were trying to push. Was worth it, they seem to have very good rates on one way rentals dropping off other than originating MCO.

Just rebooked thru Alamo for a full-size Oct 1-10 using Sams Club code and $30 Entertainment coupon and my rate is $168 now!

that's a good rate for 9 days, mine for 8 days is $155

alamo used to be such a pain using coupons that didn't 'match' the corporate ID...i haven't rented from them for a year or so (still hoping National will drop before next trip:wizard:) but last thing i want to do upon arriving @ MCO is to have to argue with person in the garage counter.:confused3.

My rate just went down another $20 since I rebooked last week. I now have 12 days through Alamo, Standard, for $210 (with all fees, taxes, etc.). Booked with an Entertainment rate.

Seems like those of you with reservations the beginning of October are finding some great deals! Still hoping for something to come up Oct. 14-22. Rates are hovering around $300. That is the most I have ever paid for picking up at MCO. Fingers crossed that something else comes up.

I agree - I have yet to find a lower amount from when I booked back in February for our upcoiming trip Oct. 21-31. Actually, when I look at the prices today they are $200+ more than when I booked it.

Yep, I just checked for our Oct. 13-19 trip and it's $200 more than when I booked.:scared1: Let's hope rates for when we're travelling come down.

I thought it was just me!

I got a Hertz minivan for 10 days, pick up and drop off in Miami, for $477 (incl, all fees and taxes). I went back to change the dates, because now we're arriving a day earlier, so it's an 11 day rental now - and the cost was over over $1,000!!!! We'll take taxis in Miami on our first afternoon if we have to - it'll be cheaper than changing the reservation! And we'll stay near the airport so the taxi fees are low. We're still driving up to Orlando on the original date - we just changed our Barbados - Miami flight to arrive the afternoon before so we could do a few things there. We had planned to leave Miami for Orlando around 12 or 1 p.m., but now we're leaving around 7 a.m., and because we are returning the car at 7 a.m. on our way home, I was able to change the pick-up time to 7 a.m. without triggering the rate increase.

I'm still hoping to get a good last-minute rate though.

Same here...I checked yesterday or the day before and my rate almost doubled from what I booked (Oct 15-23)! I will keep checking up to a few days before we leave but for now, I am happy with my rate.

My rate has just started going down the past week so there is hope for you all in mid October! I would try again next week. I'm hoping mine goes down further or I can get a bigger vehicle for less than $300.

We went to Disney Wold in June and the car rates seemed higher than I can ever remember. My friend told me to try Priceline which I had never used - can't stand Shatner. But I used it and bid on a Licoln Towncar and got it for a great rate. Woth a try.

I've noticed all the posts about rates dropping now for October at Alamo so I tried my dates just now (10/10 - 22) using the same Costco codes I used in May and almost fainted! In May I booked a compact for $256, now the rate is $922!!!

I guess I'll keep my original reservation.

I booked for October 9 to 18th with Alamo for a compact car using the BJ's Wholesale Club (25% off PLUS one free day and a free second driver) back in August and got a rate of $114.89/week plus Day rate of $16.41

Subtotal $147.71
Discount $16.41 for free day
Taxes/Fees $61.54
Estimated Total is $192.84

I checked today as I was going to give you the link and the total for the same date/time/car is now $597.11 Estimated Total... INSANE!

Thank god I have my confirmation email!

I wasn't aware you can combine discounts. Is this only with Sam's? I have BJs club card but also have Entertainment. Of course the rates are $400 more now so I think I'll not worry about the $14 I could have saved, lol... good to know for future though!

I got a minivan from Budget for October 30-November 6th - MCO - for $302.
It will be $25 cheaper when I pick it up. X474200 (Travelocity public code)and MUWZ023 (ecoupon)

Interesting to note:

I'm arriving on October 31 and leaving on November 11. Hertz, for all of the time included wanted to charge me over $450.00 for the entire rental with a compact vehicle.

I went back and changed the rental period to 10/31 - 11/4 and then created a new rental from 11/4 through 11/11. The new rate is now $375.00. Go figure...:worship: I'm still looking though. Seems I should be able to beat both rates.

Stilllll waiting for a better rate. Sttttiiilllll wwwaaaaiiiittttiiinnngggg popcorn:::rolleyes1

Just got $100 off my van rental from Dollar close to DTD was $561 for 12 days with the oi1054 code, got an email from Dollar with the code 2MVME...now it's $461 :goodvibes
