October 17, 2009 Western

Wohooo..... I'm excited the cruise going to Alaska from Vancouver.. No need to find airline tickets for us :cool1:

Are we going to get discount and OBC (maybe) if we book on board Oct 17?

cwid510 - Are you from Vacouver or Seattle?

Hello Saturday -- and we cruise in 5 more Saturdays!!!!! :)

I'm so excited I could explode.

Laura - I'm so happy you got your upgrade!!! Very very lucky.. :)..

Went to look for some magnetic paper to print some door magnets today.. guess I gotta keep looking.. not very popular here, it seems!

Has anyone seen WENDY around?? :)

Wow! And I thought I had waited a long time!

What are everyone's thoughts on today's cruise announcements? Anyone hatching any plans for next year or beyond?

I am thinking I will book a 7-day Mexican for October 2010. But, I will wait until we are on the ship having the time of our lives before I spring it on the hubby :ssst:

I am not trying to burst your bubble, but if you want a Oct. Mexican cruise on DCL, you will have to wait to 2011. Me personaly, since I am a Gold Castaway Member, I will be on the Phone at 5 A.M. on Sep 21 to get on the Panama Canal cruise. Alaska has zero interest for me. Now if they did a round trip to HI from L.A. I would book that in a hearbeat.

Wendy is here, but mainly lurking! Up to my eyes writing this stupid dissertation - it feels like it is never going to get finished.
Anyway enough moaning. Excited to see we are a gold castaway club member but cannot see us going to Alaska. For some reason it doesnt really excite us.
Best wishes to everyone.
Wendy

Silver Castaway - Benefits begin after your 1st completed cruise

Gold Castaway - Benefits begin after your 5th completed cruise

Platinum Castaway - Benefits begin after your 10th completed cruise

What do you think of the benefits for Gold and Platinum levels? Personally, I'm ambivalent. Being able to book excursions and such 105 days out instead of 90 would mean something to me if so far, we hadn't been able to book everything we wanted at 90 days. About the Castaway member social, we've never been to one, and correct me if my information is incorrect, but I've heard it's pretty lame. Maybe, now that it is only for Gold and Platinum, it's going to be a nicer affair. The third benefit, being able to "Take advantage of special onboard shopping opportunities ", isn't too clear. Does that mean discounts, exclusive merchandise, or what? I would be happy with either unless the exclusive merchandise is really overpriced.

I myself wondered why they tampered with it.... My philosophy is, if it isn't broke, don't fix it. I enjoy the CC social, but I am a goober. I can see where most would rather spend their cruise time doing something else, but I like the meet and greet aspect of it... not to mention extra free goodies!! I don't get the whole level thing. What are you really providing? Booking incentive, maybe, but then it feels like you are punishing me and not providing me with an oportunity to do the PC repo because it could potentially sell out before I can book. Right now my feelings are leaning towards the negative. I agree that the system could have been "tweaked" a bit to include some extra perks, but I wasn't thinking along these lines.... <sigh> ce la vie

Hey Lucky 1 i wish i got a scarf as we are beyond excited to go to Alaska however there was well over 1000 of us wanting to see the presentation and only seats for maybe 350  bad planning of events on disneys part for D23 Expo

Wow. Over 1000 for only a 350 seat theater. Now I am really happy I did not go. That's insane. Remindes me of the first PC cruise to L.A. and the pin situation. LE 500 pins for about 1000 staterooms. Talk about had planing, I will admit sleeping in beat street was fun. I like what they did to the Castaway Club. Everytime I have been to the party it is more than full and I would say more than half the ship was in Beat Street/Route 66. Way to crowded. On the PC cruise last year there were so many Castaway Club members that a second reception was made, and held at the Goofy pool. So the change is a welcome one. I do agree that the booking thing in my opinion is unfair for one time cruises like a Transatlantic, or a PC. I think those extra special cruises should go on sale the sameday gor everyone.

Not really sure what to think about the changes, this is only our 2nd DCL cruise, the first one being in 1999. I understand the need to reward frequent cruisers. I wish they thought of something like this with WDW. We are at least Once a year visitors to WDW and definately once a year to DL.

We are from north of Seattle so it only takes about 2 hours going to Vancouver

Cool - I went to school there and my inlaws are there, so it could be a launching ground for the start of our vacation. Definately will be a vacation choice for us since DH worked in Alaska and would love to go back.

Sorry you missed out on the scarf's. Hopefully things were not too crazy there.

Sue - Do you have a wal*mart or staples there? The brand name that I found here at the OfficeMax store is Avery. A package of five 8.5 x11 inch sheets is about 13USD.
I am working on my magnets today and trying to figure out how to maximize the magnets per sheet, given the paper is expensive

Hi, everyone. Is it too soon to be optimistic about oil prices dropping? $69.12 right now with what four days to go?

A quick QOTD:

Don't leave home without it.. What's YOUR it for this Disney Cruise? (I mean, besides passport, tickets, licences, and money)..

I guess I should remember my Wife. Just kidding. Had to have a little fun. I would say, my labtop. I need it to pay some bills while I am gone. It sucks, in today's age even on vacation still have to take care of things at home.

I guess for me, it is a prescription drug. I won't die without it, but my skin might be a little worse for the wear.

Does anyone have an "on the fence"? I can't decide whether or not to pack my hair dryer or make due with what is provided. :scared1:
