October 17, 2009 Western

We just checked in to the Residence Inn in Cape Canaveral. I'm very impressed with this hotel (which is saying something since I spend 75+ nights a year in Marriott hotels). It's nice to stay in a newer hotel.

Our kindergartner is on a year-round school calendar and he started his fall break at noon today. We picked him up at school in Raleigh, NC at noon and started driving south - not knowing where we would stay tonight since our reservation at Pop Century doesn't start until tomorrow. We figured we'd just call and add another night onto the Pop Century reservation, but they were completely booked up. So, we decided to come to Cape Canaveral and spend the day at the Kennedy Space Center on Saturday before going to Pop Century. The nice lady at the front desk tried to convince us that we should stay at the Residence Inn for the next two weeks, but I think the commute back and forth to the parks might be a bit much. :thumbsup2

Wow... I didn't realize Raleigh was that close in driving distance to WDW. That maybe our next location for work and now might make it easier to convience DH to move there if it is driving distance to WDW. of course then we would be very far away from DL :scared1:

Hello!!

We are cruising the week before you guys!! I am so super excited..this is our first Disney cruise.

I had a very nice lady contact me from the sailing before ours..she was wanting to donate beach/sand toys/Fe Gifts whatever she had leftover to us, the cruise after hers..she asked that I do the same. Pick a family to leave extras with. I figure its win win you don't have to bring on ship, I don't have to bring home!! :lmao:

My only request is that you continue to pay it forward. :grouphug:
It would be nice to donate FE items/magnets/items to a family that hasn't found the love of the Disboards yet..:wizard:

Any takers please PM me. You will have to tell me your last name and cabin number so I can leave package at Guest Services. :flower3:

I am finally starting to get super excited for this cruise! The kids have four more days of school until fall break and we only have this weekend and next weekend to get things organized.

Fortunately it is getting cooler here so I can start to pack some of the shorts! I need to go to Kohl's this weekend and buy both boys shoes for dinner. Neither of them have dress shoes that fit and I really don't want them in their crocs or keens at dinner every night! I also need to get DS10 a Halloween costume if he would ever decide what he wants to be!

We are going to make our door magnets tomorrow, my baskets were charged by the perfect gift so I know those are done, and I think it is just packing and we are good to go!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

I am excited for you! You'll be on your way in less than a week. We booked our cruise almost 2 years ago, and now that we are under two weeks until we sail, dh and I are finally getting into gear booking our excursions and really thinking about what we had to do here at home to prepare for our absence.

What a great idea about the package for the next family. Thank you for sharing that idea. It gives me a lot of satisfaction to make good use of things we don't need that someone else will need. Our kids are past the sand toy age, so I don't know what we will offer the next group. It never occurred to me to use guest services in that fashion, but we will if we can. Do you know about Freecycle groups? Freecycle is awesome.

We are taking the 6am flight, arriving 4:10pm. Wanted to get up an out early, but that 4am ride to the airport is going to be tough...the kids will either sleep or be grumpy on the plane. My husband will sleep, so I'll probably be grumpy ;)

Where are you staying in Orlando? We're at the Sheraton Suites, then renting a car down to the port Sat am. Hoping to get to the port around 10:30am.

We thought about that early, flight but decided to take the later one. We are staying at the Residence Inn near the airport and then have a town car transfer to the pier.

So we have 2nd seating for dinner, which I prefer. However I have a question about breakfast. Is there also two breakfast seating times or is it open seating and you go anytime?

Two weeks from today, I am very excited. I went to try and buy some new shorts, but they are almost impossible to find in the stores now.

Sit-down breakfast is in Lumiere's each morning, and you can go whenever you like. Hours are posted in the Personal Navigator. There is also Topsiders for buffet style dining for breakfast, and Goofy's Galley has fruits, cereals, muffins, pastries, etc.

I tried to find excursion Playa Mia in DCL reservation but I couldn't find it. Any advice where should I find that at? :)

Now, I'm looking at the one at Playa Mia. Is he doing that one? Originally, I was thinking of the one with Josephina but it not a beach resort class, it's in the teacher's home and is 30.00 more than the beach ones. Her class involves a field trip to the market. The beach resort class, I think, is a good compromise. I was looking at the massage prices, too. Not too bad.

Hi... it is called the Cozumel Beach break (Time 10:10-4:10)on the DCL exterison list. If you are interested in the cooking one, it is called Mexican Cuisine Workshop and Tasting. (10:45 - 4:00).

It is a quiet day on the boards, everyone must be packing. I started and then got into cleaning my closet. I was distracted. :confused3

DH started too. Unfortunately he is finding some of his clothes not fitting. They are too big. (Why can't I have that problem  )

Just pokeing around till I go to work in a bit. Most of the stuff being talked about lately is about tours. I am debating if I am even going to get off the ship. I know that I will not be doing one tour.

We have 2nd seating too. I think I'm going to prefer that too due to our time difference. I'm also hoping our kids will want to be in the clubs during or at the end of a few dinners so my husband and I can enjoy the rare treat of a long dinner :goodvibes

I've been busy picking up last minute things and finishing my FE gifts. I'm going to pack a little this week and try to finish this weekend. Things are going to be very busy before we leave and I don't want to be up late the night before we leave, but I'm sure I will!

Hope everyone had a nice weekend!

Thanks so much Laura... :)

Goodwill still has shorts or wait until you get to Florida. You can buy them there no problem.

It's really tempting to just book our Playa Mia visit through DCL and be done with it. I would IF it was just dh and me going and IF the buffet menu looked more appealing AND if we were big drinkers. No question about it. We would go with DCL. It would be worth it to pay a little extra in exchange for convenience. But, we're not big eaters and the menu doesn't thrill me or dh. Dh is the only one who drinks anything other than water or soda during the day. Booking through DCL would cost 326.00 plus tax. Arranging a taxi ($40), lunch and a couple beverages for the four not taking the class ($40.00), paying to get into the park ($64) and for me to take the class, which includes admission, food, and drink ($49) brings the excursion to a total of about 193.00 plus tips. $133 savings is not exactly nickels and dimes.

Good evening everyone!

Melissa and I have been crazy busy lately and we babysat her niece & nephew all weekend. Whew! We need this cruise to get here soon! Haha!

I keep going back through the thread and trying to read up on things. Looks like some good participation on the fish extenders! Our gifts are almost done, we certainly hope they go over well! If you love em, it was my idea, if not, I blame Melissa for not talking me out of my idea

We just booked the trolly tour at key west through DCL this evening and have been going over and over our list of excursions. We were wondering what you guys had planned as far as meets while onboard. I know it's somewhere in the thread, but not sure where.

Hope all is well! 11 days until we leave for the trip! 10 work days left!

Cheers,
Josh

Yikes - one more weekend! I didn't really get anything done this weekend w/ all that was going on. Crunch time!

We did watch the Magic leave on the Port Canaveral Webcam stream on Sat - happened to be on the computer checking out Key West stuff & switched over to it. It left at 4:50 for it's last Western run before we go on it:) The kids thought it was so cool - and big! I keep telling them to wait til they see it in person.

Thanks for the Key West links & Map. We're planning on walking around since we've been there before, but it's always nice to have the street map. We were talking about taking the kids on the Conch Tour Train, so did print out the coupons on their website. I can't believe how expensive it is now - DH & I did it 8 years ago & we know we didn't pay that much.

Kim - we'll be at the Sheraton Suites the night before also. Our flight doesn't get in til after 9 though, so it'll be late by the time we arrive. We're getting picked up at 9am the next morning if you're around.

Kristi - our kids are about the same ages - DD turned 7 in Aug, DS 5 in Sept.

Still not sure if we'll make the meet @3 that day - I think that may be when we're in the room showering the kids from swimming & getting ready for dinner. I want to be dressed before the drill & sailaway since we have early dinner.

One thing I'm confused on - when we embark, what's the better place to go for lunch? Do they have different foods? Parrot Cay could be cool, just to check it out - from what I've read, that's a buffet that day, right?

I'm starting to get that panicky feeling that I just haven't researched enough:rotfl:

Kathy

The food offerings are basicly the same at Topsiders and Parrot Cay for the first lunch. The only differance I can think of is that last time I got to Parrot Cay for lunch on day one was they had hand scooped ice cream for desert.

Hello all,

I am new to the DIS boards and we will be sailing with you on the 17th. Could someone clearify for me what the fish extenders are? It sounds like fun and if possible something we might like to participate in.

To introduce, I am DW 36 will be sailing with DH 40, DD 10 and DD 8.

Thanks in advance.
