October 13th, 2007~"Cruise-A-Palooza"

I never book my flights to far ahead as I usually fly SWA or AirTran so I wait for their specials. For my Oct. trip we were able to get $44/per person one way on a SW ding.

I just booked my flights about 3 weeks ago for our Dec WDW trip.

Glad I was able to make everyone have a good laugh for the day.

 Okay, now tha'ts just wrong. :rotfl2: :goodvibes

Kevin, Extreme Makeover-Home... is a great show, although I dont think I have ever watched it without s cry or sniffle.

I'm anticipating flights. Unfortunately we don't get SW up here in good ol' Minnesota. I remember last year some people got some really good deals with them. I also remember that Continental had some really good deals in mid December, but I thought I'd wait. Well, I wished I had grabbed them, and I did end up getting a pretty good deal, but we flew into Orlando really late, and had 2 many connections. So, this time on my third cruise I think I have the idea of what it will cost us and what's a good deal and what's not. We will see though, things change.

Wel, gotta run. I suppose I should feed the kids sometime tonight. :teeth:

My bride (Nancy), cries at Hallmark commercials...some of the Extreme Makeover-Home Edition shows----she sobs.

Jan...your not the only one - we've not had much luck finding flights for our past trips to Flordia. I always wait too long and pay more. This time I promised myself I would purchase the first convenient and reasonable flights found....please - remind me of this...often....please!!!

hope all are having a great week...k

You guys got me thinking and I had to check for flights. Still to far inadvance. Am I hoping a little to hard for Oct 13th to roll around tomorrow :hyper: ?

We are going to drive there from Illinois, its not really that far. We will save 2 thousand dollars.

Tonight I am being inducted into Phi Theta Kappa honor society at college......
(like my mother before me) she will be watching from Heaven.
its a big event for us.:cool1:

Congratulations!!! What a nice honor - enjoy!!! k

Bev - The drive isn't that bad. We just made in Oct and have done it a couple of times before that one. :drive: 18 hrs for us. Were just outside of Joliet.

I just noticed your location!
We are just outside of Vandalia.
We drive 14 hours to the Gulf Coast (Cape San Blas) every two years so we figured the drive wouldn't be a problem. It gives us an excuse to spend the night on Cocoa Beach.:goodvibes

Congratulations bevtoy.

It has been years since we have driven down, the thought of a 16 hr drive just makes me crazy. I can hardly stand being in a car for 4 hrs. I am lucky that both Air Tran and Southwest fly out of BWI and I can get those cheap rates. We usually go to WDW 3 times a year and I always have been able to get great flight prices. You have got to love SWA dings. Even my husband who was not a big SWA fan has been converted.

Have a great weekend everyone. Heading outside to do more leaves.

Just wanted to bring to eveyones attention that a game of DISer tag is being planned for the cruise. For those who are interested sign up is at YAHOO! in the account Kevin set up for us.

Hope this finds all well.

On our past cruise, we grew to ~30 families participating on a DIS cruise thread. I’ve got some great memories as we had a blast!!! This group really needed a place to share data that The-DIS does not offer. We were very lucky that Paul (Lloylf – on The-DIS) joined our cruise thread. He has strong computer skills and found a site for us to use. I just completed setting up a site through Yahoo Groups that closely mirror’s Paul’s previous hard work (big thanks to Paul for his assistance). Ours has been created a little differently. I set this up as a ‘closed site’ – i.e., a Moderator needs to ‘invite’ someone to participate. It would be my personal preference in keeping this a ‘closed site’. However, if ‘our group’ prefers, I can change this to an ‘open site’ allowing any/all with an internet connection to view the information we have added. I don’t want to dwell on the ‘horrors in the world’...just want to keep ‘our information’ as secure as we can – rant off.

This is an ‘off-DIS’ web site for us to share information (files – photos – polls – database – links...etc). It’s an amazing organizing tool that offers us free data storage (can’t get much better than that). Of course...they will offer links and banners (I call them Internet commercials) to ‘suggest’ you purchase goods/services from one of their vendors. However, you are under no obligation to review or purchase ANYTHING. I am almost finished and can use a volunteer (anyone...anyone....Bueller...Bueller)? I’d like someone to ‘take a peek’ and request ‘suggestions for improvement’. Also, will prob need someone besides me to become a Moderator. The requirements for a Moderator are ‘low maintenance’ (process an invite to another DIS member allowing them to join us – pretty easy – it’s just like sending an e-mail from the Yahoo site). I’d like a back up in case I am traveling or away from a computer. And – as our group grows....we may need a 3rd/4th to assist. So...that being said...anyone interested???

If participating as a Moderator...is not your ‘cup-o-tea’...I understand. Should you just want an invite to this site....send me an e-mail to both of the below addresses (my work and home e-mail address should pop up in a new e-mail when you click the below link).

Kevin's Home & Work e-mail addresses
Just offer me the e-mail address you want me to send the Yahoo Groups invite to.

You can always send me a PM, but this may take longer for me to get your request.

Finally....this site is not intended to replace The-DIS Cruise Thread...at all. It’s my hopes we can share information with each other...making our cruise and vacation planning easier.

I brought this post back up for anyone who is interested in DISer tag. If you click on the link Kevin will send you an invitation to join the YAHOO! site. Some personal information and pictures are posted there so we keep it by invitation only.

Hi Nancy...below is some information from a previous post on the Yahoo Groups site. Hope this helps.

Since we have some new friends and it's been a while since this subject has been brought up...here is some information on our 'off Dis web site'...if you've not joined...please look for the link at the end of this post.

:surfweb: Do any October 13th cruisers brave the shopping malls on Friday after T-day?

I have been avoiding shopping in the stores. Doing mine mostly online this year. I work full time and that just works better for me. The only store I have been to has been Kohl's with DS#2 for him to pick out clothing.

We are going to try to decorate outside on Friday since it is to be in the high 50's.

Thanks for the link, sent an email off to Kevin.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Hello Everyone!! I've been around - just a little busy. DD just got her first letter report card!! She did so well. I'm so proud of her.

I told myself that I would get our passport a year in advance. Well, I still have not done it. With Christmas shopping now I may wait till after the new year. I think i need some motivation from my friends here. :)

padisneyfan- we live outside Baltimore and will fly from BWI also! Tell me it's too early for those DINGS. I need to download that feature.

I wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving. We have so much to be thankful for! Take care all.

Seagee---You have plenty of time for those Oct dings. For my Oct cruise this year, I bought my tickets in Aug and then finally got a ding 2 weeks before our cruise so could switch and get the refund.

I don't mind flying out of BWI as it is so much cheaper than Harrisburg. We always allow ourselves extra travel time since you never know how beltway traffic will be.

Holy Cow! I cannot believe there is actually a forum for the October 13th cruise. My DW and I booked our curise last week. We will be first time cruisers, but are a Disney Family. Our DS is only four and has been to DisneyWolrd and Land a combined 5 times. Our DD is only 1 and has been to DisneyWorld twice already! Our families think we're a bit crazy over this, but its nice to find a place to meet others with our same interest. We can't wait for the cruise and I'm trying to learn all I can to make it a great experience. I look forward to catching up with everyone to get all the scoop on what to expect. I've browsed quite a few of the posts, but have much more to catch up on. If anyone has any hints for a first time crusing family with pre-schoolers and what to expect I'd love to hear.

Thanks!

TX- :welcome: to the club. If you talked to friends and family of the posters here they would tell you that were all nuts! We rebooked on the cruise in Oct. I have a TR (Oct 06 double dip) on the other page. Check it out. If you have questions someone here will be able to point you in the right direction.

Welcome DisneyFamilyTX

Feel free to ask us any questions. This will be our 7th cruise on DCL.

Did anyone go out shopping on Black Friday? The Lancaster Outlets opened at midnight and DH and I went over. The traffic was terrible, what should have taken 30 minutes became a 90 minute drive. It was bumper to bumper on the expressway. Their are so many stores that it wasn't to crowded in the stores and most of them had sales with 25%-40% off everything in the store.

DH and DS#2 went golfing on Friday sine temps were in the high 50's. I spent the time putting the fall decorations away and starting to decorate insise. Still didn't get those outside lights out yet, hopefully today.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Nancy

Welcome DisneyFamilyTX!!!! I see this was also your first post - welcome to The-DIS as well.

Looks like you are looking for some 'start up' information on DCL - if so, I can't think of a better place to start than the below link

Magical Disney Cruise Guide - great tips and suggestions...90+ pages...well worth burning a printer cartridge

I can relate...if I had a dime for each time our family gave us an 'eye roll' when we start discussing past/future WDW-DCL trips. I confess...many of us on these boards need to go through a Disney support group - wait a minute...we are on one.

I tried...failed - big time. I had a plan to pop-into 3 stores to pick up just a few things. I was at BestBuy at 5a...only to see a line that went ALL AROUND THE STORE!!! I was surprised...it only took ~15 minutes to get inside...only to find out the digital camera I wanted was sold out. Circuit City was next...no line by ~0530...but it was like being in a sardine can and a sauna at the same time (good times). You guessed it they were all out of the SD memory cards I wanted. Check out lines were sooooo long - it just wasn't worth fighting to find a cheap DVD and wait an hour to pay. My next stop at 0600 was Michaels...did find something there...a fake Christmas tree for the office (yes, he celebrates in shallow victories).
