OCD Princess Planners: Flights, Frights, Food, & a ToT Race, Too!!!

Here I go again...changing up my program in hopes to find something that fits me...C210K just was not working, straight running and adding distance, a no go...so what now?

This week I have been reading and watching videos on the Galloway Method...heck as Ann said, Disney has hired him as the training specialist, so maybe I should listen. So today I downloaded his app for a 10K and after my curves workout gave it a shot...lets just say that day 1 I ran farther and faster using his method...a whole 1 mile longer and almost 20 seconds faster per mile. I hope this means more good runs to come...

Finally A Room is Booked, along with Official Dates & Some Flights

The OCD in our group has been running wild when it came to booking a room since we started this PTR in September...

Round 1: Waiting patiently for Ann's bounce back from her TOT trip in September. She got a pretty good offer and we were ready to book at AoA for a suite...but a nasty CM did not understand early morning all day long flights and we ended up missing the booking window...which was okay because Ashley1 ended up getting a PIN CODE so we reworked out plans...UNTIL

Round 2: We were ready to book POP with the PIN Code the beginning of December until Disney decided to change the TOT to a week later...

Round 3: DisneyGals through Adult Disney had a great rate, but Ann & I really did not feel the love at All Sports...so, we ran numbers on all resorts and waited for...

Round 4: We decided that we would wait for the next bounce back offer after Ann returned from PHM...well the bounce back was that great...so we decided...after running all the numbers and room combinations and bringing OCD to the point of calling it off...we decided

Round 5: To look in renting DVC points since we were at the 7 month mark, and after searching for a good point price and finding someone, there was no room in the BW for us...so here we go again...

Round 6: To tell you the truth (Tammie) could not handle anymore going back and forth and waiting for offers and convinced Ashley1 & Ann to turn it over to her trustworthy TA and let her take care of looking for the best deal and turn our attention to better thinks like ADR planning...so thank you Michele of Pixie Vacations for taking over our OCD room hunt...

Here it is...

September 28-October 2

Ann and Tammie will arrive on the 28th, while Ashley 1 and Ashley 2 will arrive on the 30th

I am so excited for you! I really hope this is what does the trick! And given today's pace... you are going to rock this!! You just need to get in the distance, but you are already at a pace that will keep you from being swept. (assuming you maintain it for 10 miles..which I KNOW you will be able to since you have 28 weeks to get there)

I love the OCDPrincess post! I totally forgot that we had a joint user account. :rotfl: It sums it up well...and I would expect that we will get a discount... you just never know if it will be a public one or a pin or even the AP... or maybe even an employee (still crossing my fingers;))

I am sure it is an en
durance thing...thinking I should be farther along then where I am...

You are doing great! It is MARCH. Now... I will be honest with you... should you only be to the point of running (and yes...I say running to include an interval method) a max of 3 miles come August, I might raise a bit more of an eyebrow. However... Lets talk August 2012. What do you think my longest run was that month and what do you think my pace was? I will let you guess. I think it might surprise you but also show you that you HAVE this in a way that I didn't last March.

WHAT IS A PR???

Personal Record.

I know you long for someone to run with...and I want to be there for you...as well as for me too! Share my pain with you!

I do. I am just so happy that you are doing this... and even if we dont run the entire ToT together it is great to know someone else is braving the training along with me. :goodvibes

I knew that you would obsess over your return flight...so glad I made you book your departure flight...baby steps!

I am so glad you told me about it too. It has not been that low since that day. I still am stalking that return though... tuesday is at 160 (or has been, I need to check today) and sunday is at 280. If monday was 160 it would be a no brainer... I would just stay one more night. However, two nights means the stay will cost me more...so that isn't worth it.

Cant wait to see pictures....YAY STEVE!

I got Kira to sign up too! :cool1: I will make sure to post pics tomorrow after we are done.

l... it should be fun.
I think you do need some fun in your running...

This will be, but I still am going to go all out. I plan to "dress up" but it looks like it will be raining and cold tomorrow. Not sure how my "costume" will work in that weather. I also am hoping to get a good time. Just for me... not because I plan to do anything with it specifically... well.... maybe I am. Steve thinks I am being petty... but I would like a bib for the ToT that has a corral that is b. Not because I need to run in B... but because I would like it for perpetuity. Also, we are thinking of going to our home town. (have not been in over 2 years) and there is a race there that is huge. Like it is double the size of the phm. This particular race does not recognize any times from races if they are longer than a certain pace.(maybe Disney should do this too?) So far I would have no races I could submit. I might be able to get the pace tomorrow if all goes well. Also... this race... only finishers get a tshirt at the end. You have to cross the finish line to get your finishers shirt. Makes me think I might want to try this race.... SOOOO doing well tomorrow might be a good thing. If I get a better corral for that race, I will be less likely to have to dodge walkers. (which I had to do a lot of at the phm... even if you watch my run across the finish... I am weaving to get to the finish. THAT should NOT happen... walkers should not be stumbling across a finish line in the middle of the course way)

YOu did not give bad advice, I am willing to try anything and love your input...

I still felt bad.:flower3:

Yep, one step at a time, one run at a time...
:thumbsup2

The jury is out on the stretching, most times I go run right after curves so I know my muscles are warm, then when I dont I do a nice brisk walk and a few stretches before hand. I know that most of the issue is weight...Love the ball idea...I am going to try that... I spend about 5 minutes on the edge of my porch. I stretch each calf in three directions (you can do this by positioning the ball of your foot in three different ways). So I get the muscles on the inside of each calf, outside of each calf, and the middle of each calf. I give them each a good long hard stretch (and it really feels good). Then I throw in a quad and a hamstring stretch just for good measure. I have found that this takes care of my shin splints almost immediately. If you haven't been stretching, give it a try.

The Galloway is actually against pre run stretching, right? I think I understand the reason behind it... but I know for me I have to stretch. Maybe not a ton... but I do have to some. And after... I have to remember to after!

I have also been reading on the KP Tape...and I am thinking of getting some. Although I am going to look pretty funny walking around school in my capris and tape on my legs since it lasts for about a week before needing to be changed.

I think my injury healed quicker when I used the ktape... and added compression socks. Now... most running sites will suggest the expensive $50/$60 a pair ones... I went to walmart and in the diabetic section found they had some... 2 pairs for $10. those worked well for me. I still use them when I feel sore. Sometimes I wish I could wear them all over my body. :rotfl2: Oh... and biofreeze. LOVE that stuff. that helped too. I did also get a foam roller... but ended up not really using it...so it along with the cd it came with sit in the box still.

THANKS FOR THE GREAT ADVICE & PEP TALK ANN & SUSAN....

you are welcome!!

I for one am so happy for both Susan and Heather. Family time is so important... add in that she will have a good time with friends too (right) and that should make for a perfect time. And Heather!!!!! :cool1::cool1::cool1: What a perfect surprise!

I thought I would report on my running event today. I set my goal of getting a good time so that I could not only use it to submit for registration of the ToT ten miler, but so that I could maybe submit a time for a somewhat local race. In that race (the local one) you are only able to not be in the last "corral" if you submit a time with a 9:40 pace for a 10k or longer. I knew it was going to be a bit of a stretch... but not by much. I had seen my pace coming down this last month. Can you imagine if Disney said all who were above a 9:40 min/mile pace were in the back? :confused3 Well, I imagine I wouldn't be weaving around people all the way through 13.1 miles and even at the finish!

So I talked Steve, Zoe and Kira into going to do the 5k portion. At first it was just Steve and Zoe. Then Steve decided that he wanted to try a bit more than he could if he was doing the entire thing with Zoe. So Kira was coerced into registering so that she could walk with Zoe.

We picked up our race packets yesterday afternoon. The race organizer was ironing on decals onto green shirts as we picked up. It all seemed very "unorganized" and I felt a bit like this was not going to come together well.

It was a fun run so costumes were not only encouraged, but prizes were handed out. (spoiler... we didn't win any ;)) I think we were close though since early on one of the race photographers asked to take all of our picture.

Here is just my family.

486104_4510082110617_109497806_n.jpg

The race was advertised as flat. :lmao::lmao::lmao: No, not flat. HILLS. SERIOUS ones. My rear end hurts!

I lined up for my start before Steve and the girls, starting at approx. 9am vs. 9:15am. The chip timing company was having a hard time getting things set up so we were waiting a bit. Then all of a sudden it was a go. Well, I was not ready with runkeeper immediately, so I hit start when they did... and I forgot my delay was 40 seconds. By the time runkeeper started tracking me, it was not quite a 10th of a mile into the race.

The course was beautiful though! A 5k around a lake and then for the 10k... just a second loop. I saw Steve and the girls each twice on my run. I felt good about my pace, even though the hills were killing me, since runkeeper had my pace under 9 minutes for the first loop. Miles were seeming to match up well too. When the last half mile was upon me (as was the last huge hill) I was still under a 9:30 pace and I thought to myself "its ok if you have to walk up the hill you are under pace" I am happy I didn't listen to that little voice and continued on running rather than walk.

I rounded the last corner and saw the finish. I sprinted. I shut runkeeper off right after I crossed. Runkeeper listed my distance as 6.4 with a time of 59 minutes. This would have had my pace as 9:14. However, official distance is 6.2. (remember though, I didn't start tracking until about a tenth of a mile in...so where is that quarter mile???)

My official time was 1:00:00:18 (not even a full second past 1 hour) I really had wanted to come in under an hour. I am so glad I didn't stop to walk any of it or I would have been even further off of my goal. I am just not sure where runkeeper picked up the extra quarter mile. It doesn't make sense to me.

Steve and the girls had each crossed by the time I reached the finish. Steve finished in 38:58 and the girls somewhere near 50:00 (although I am not certain since official times have not been posted and steve and I only asked about our own)

Once I finished, I found the girls and then made a bee line for the restroom. Yes, that was an issue for me the final 2 miles. (:scratchin maybe I will learn to not have potty issues on races soon... cause maybe that slows me a bit. ;))

Then it was time to enjoy the offers that the sponsors gave out. Taco Time (a local mexican fast food chain) was there and gave us all as many tacos and white chili as we wanted. I had a taco...but that was about all I could handle. There were every kind of pastry imaginable, along with various spreads to put on it. There was yogurt and bananas and water bottles... oh and green apple juice. They also offered massages for participants.

Then the prizes started to be handed out for costume... and raffles (we forgot to put our bib in for that) Then came the prizes for finishing. Wow! nice prices for all of those categories!!! For an event that I worried would be poorly put together I was really impressed. Most runners ran the 5K which cost only $20. What a lot you got for your $20!!!

Oh, and you might wonder what I looked like today. Well, after the race I looked like this. And as for my pace... I don't have the official, but I am guessing between 9:40 and 9:41..maybe 9:42 SOOO Close to that 9:40 goal!

487839_4509820184069_529863243_n.jpg

Little frustrated... official race results came in. The race official who told me exactly and hour even...with only a "nano second" (which would have been wrong anyway) was wrong. I came in almost dead last. (sucks to live in the land of runners ) with a pace of 9:42 and finish time of 1:00:18. So this definitely won't be good enough to submit. But... maybe I don't care. The race has over 50k registrants. That is about twice that of the phm..so it will be packed. Not sure if I want to deal with that. The only way I was considering it is if I got a time to submit so I would not be in the back with all the walkers (not that there is a problem with walkers... but I suspect there will be quite a few of them)

So I do have a time to submit for ToT that I will be happy with. Again, not that I am certain I will start in a corral that is higher than the other ocd princesses... but it would be nice to see the letter on my bib non the less.

Well, I did it.. I registered for the Tower of Terror 10 miler! :cool1: Now to just come up with a training plan and I will be ready!

Training Update

A quick training update. Last Saturday I decided to switch to the Galloway method of training/running and I loved the app I downloaded from him. My first run on Saturday was the best one and longest run I have done...I went to down about 20 seconds per mile in time and ended up running almost 2.5 miles. Sunday, I felt good so I thought...how about another run. It was good run, too. Monday, the weather was so pretty and I had time...so how about another run...MISTAKE! I know I should have a rest day, but the weather was again so perfect...can you say only 1 1/2 miles...about 3/4 mile in SHIN SPLINTS returned to the point that I could barely doing the walking internal and I gave up. I have not run since, which is scaring me as I have a 5K Saturday that I really wanted to be ready for. I finaly located KT Tape and compression sleeves, so I am going to hope those get me through the race in little pain (along with a week of rest).

Like I said I have a 5K Saturday morning...more of a fun 5K, where time is not really important or skill for this race...A COLOR RUN! My dd and 3 of her friends from school and my oldest ds are running.

Here are my goals for the race:
1. To come in under 45 minutes...I want to make a solid 15 minute mile. My first 5K was basically a walk and I managed just over a 16 minute mile. Hopefully, I have improved.
2. Run the first mile and then do a 2 minute run/1 minute walk interval for the rest of the race.

Well, I did it.. I registered for the Tower of Terror 10 miler! :cool1: Now to just come up with a training plan and I will be ready!

I beat you...:cool1: signing up! So that is 2 OCD Princesses in...hopefully Amy will join us! And we have the Ashes cheerleading section!

Love them! SO fun

The race was advertised as flat. :lmao::lmao::lmao: No, not flat. HILLS. SERIOUS ones. My rear end hurts!

Oh my...good booty work out!

I lined up for my start before Steve and the girls, starting at approx. 9am vs. 9:15am. The chip timing company was having a hard time getting things set up so we were waiting a bit. I beat you...:cool1: signing up! So that is 2 OCD Princesses in...hopefully Amy will join us! And we have the Ashes cheerleading section!

I wonder if they will have a sort of cheer squad like they did for phm. I don't think I saw anything...but I will have to take a second look. I do hope Amy goes... we still have lots of time for you to come closer to my pace though... so who knows what our plans will end up being. If nothing else though... we will have each other at start and finish!!!

PTR UPDATE

We actually have a park plan and ADR plan...it took only a day to come together...AND WE ARE STILL FRIENDS and THE TRIP IS STILL ON. I will come back Sunday to update you withe the plans, when I have more time!

I am so glad we were able to come together on the plans. It will make things so much easier. I think that made my last girls trip a challenge because the idea of having all these ADRS and not knowing where anyone really wanted to be or where they would end up... :confused3

First update should be easy since it won't involve a whole lot... but it will be just you and I, Tammie. The next day begins a mix of plans, right? I love seeing the plans all come together!

What a great big sister! I am so happy that your family is getting involved in your running!

I am too. I think it actually surprises them how fun it can be. I know...running? fun? But I love those events... and free tacos was enought to make it a win for Kira.

Did you do your best? That is all that you can ask of yourself...time is just a number!

Yes, you are right... but I get mad at myself because I eased off. I had that little voice telling me it was even ok if I walked up that last hill because i was ahead of pace. Luckily I didn't... but I didn't push. Had my program been accurate, I would have known to push rather than ease off. I would have been able to come in under the hour mark. I mean... in the end, the time I needed was only off by 12 seconds total.

NOT AGAIN!

I know, RIGHT!!!

Where we get placed, we get placed. I do hope to find someone to run with...AMY (hint hint)...and you do your thing! Just no riding TSM until I crawl over the finish line!

I wont ride TSM before you... course... I wonder if the Ashleys might as they wait for us. I can't say I would blame them. If we are split up during the race and I finish before you, I might go and retrieve my bag though.... I just hope it isn't down on the floor of the indiana jones stunt show theater. OMG! That was HORRID! I wasn't dying at the end last year...and that was still quite the torture to walk down and hike back up all those steps. (not to mention the line to get in)

I am too. I think it actually surprises them how fun it can be. I know...running? fun? But I love those events... and free tacos was enought to make it a win for Kira.

If they get the text notifications, then they will know when we are nearing the end...for me they will have 2 1/2 hours of playtime...I would NEVER expect them to stand those 2 1/2 hours on the finish line...they have villians and TSM! I am wondering if we really need to check anything, or if our :cheer2: could just hold on to it. I really am not planning to take much with me in the parks...just a small across shoulder bag...

Katie and I really want to do a color run! There's one in Austin in May, but I think I have a conflict..

I think I will play mom and make sure you go BEFORE!

I didn't check anything for the phm cause Steve was suppose to be there waiting for me with my bag. However... what I will have in my bag will include shoes and cleaning wipes... and probably a change of clothing. Not to mention some biofreeze. It might be a bit much for Ashley to have to drag along with her...so I will check mine. You do not pack as much as I do.... or anything. My feet will need to come out of the shoes though and into some flip flops... btw... the ones I got at the phm expo... they DID work. LOVE THEM!!! squishy...and supportive...yet open so my poor toes can recover.

As for playing mom... ::yes:: we will have to have eachothers back and remind... but ya know... last weekend I did go RIGHT before. It was not the same kind of issue I had at the phm.

You gals are BOTH brave!

Lol, well have done TSM dash that morning, so I'm sure we can wait for y'all to cross the finish line to do it at the party!

And I do not mind hold a bag while y'all race. We are all moms remember! It's what we do! Lol I have a feeling I will be yalls feet's best friend on this trip! And tammies shins!

I would not expect you to wait!

I also don't expect you to hold my bag. Course if I pack lightly- then maybe. Trick for me to pack lightly

And my feet- oh my! They look like something you would see in a horror film as a part of someone's body who has been tortured. You won't want to make friends with them. Lol! They are scary!

1st 5K AFTER Starting to Train
Saturday, March 23rd
Color Run

I completed my 1st 5K AFTER starting my training this past weekend. For those that have been following along in my last 2 ½ month “run thing” it has been full of challenge for me. The weather has not been too cooperative, but what do you expect it has still been winter. Then there has been lately the whole issue of shin splints in both legs to the point I could barely walk to the car. And finally this thing, called self-doubt in trying to come up with a plan on how to train.

I am following the DisneyGals Blog, Pumpkin to Princess. In the blog each week they give training advice & goals. One goal was to run a 5K around this time, so I chose a perfect one (although at the time I did not know just how perfect it would end of being as my first official 5K)…THE COLOR RUN. If you don’t know about color runs here is the basic premise…a 5K where at each 1K you are colored by volunteers in a special powder paint of a different color. My 2 oldest had heard about race and really wanted to run it too! The race is run for charity...

http://thecolorrun.com/about/

As I stated before, this running thing has been a real struggle for me the last 2 ½ months and last week the self doubt in the form of nerves really hit me. I was supposed to run this with a friend, who like me started training the same time (in addition to being about the same age and fluffy-ness). Well she has taken off in her training, and each week posts her accomplishments…let’s just say that each week I began feeling more and more like a failure when compared to her training). In addition to this, the shin splints got the point where any running was next to impossible. So I took the week totally off from running, not that I really wanted to but I knew I had to rest the legs and I went and found compression calf sleeves for the race to wear in order to combat the shin splints. But the friend thing was really making me think about backing out, but I knew I had to do this and maybe with the adreniline I would find out that I was capable of more than 1 ¼ miles running (without walking) and closer to her almost 3 miles running.

Friday night (after Ab’s track meet) we headed to the city the event was going to be held in (about 1 ½ hours from where I live) with my family, along with 1 of Ab’s friends (the other 2 would join us in the morning at the race). While driving Friday, I got a text and my friend and her family were not going to be joining us for the race…2 of her children were sick. I have to say that I breathed a sigh of relief that she was not joining me on the course. We spent the night in a hotel near the course, and got up early to get our registration packets (about 2 hours before race time start) 7AM. The morning was quite brisk, but it felt good to walk nearly the 1 mile from the parking lot to the registration tables…hey good warm up walk right and time to get rid of the nerves? Last night I had been seeing that registration check in line was at times 2 hours long, so we got there early and walked right up. The girls were cold so we hiked the 1 mile back to the car (this time up hill) and decided to wait in the car until closer to start time and until their 2 friends arrived for the race. At about 8:00 we headed back to the starting area to wait for the friends and get in the chute…we were engulfed in a sea of white, and learned that their friends were stuck on the highway at a standstill trying to exit for the parking area. Did I mention that 13,999 people besides me were going to be on the course? The girls stood talking with their friends on the phone, while Boo and I watched the chute line grow bigger and bigger. About 8:40 Boo gets antsy and wants to get into the chute area, I must have been really nervous because I let him go, ALONE…he had his phone and we had a meeting place set up but just as soon as he was gone I got sick to my stomach that I let a 13 year old go alone in this crowd. Ab’s friends got dropped off at the entrance at 8:45 and we made our way to the chute…which by now looked like this with a huge crowd behind us. The first wave started right at 9:00, but we did not move from our spot until 10:00…people were funneling in from the sides official start of the shoot in front of us.

I was so nervous and I wanted to GO…it was really hard waiting. It was this time that I understood my fellow OCD Princess and her bathroom relationship before a race. Dang, I was pulling an Ann, needing to go but I did not want to get out of line. Finally, we started moving at by 10:15 we were dancing at the front of chute ready to go about the same time I get a text from Jeff that he had Boo (who was already done with the race). When it was our time the paint flew in the air and off we went. My goal was to run at least until I reached the 2nd color (2K) and anything farther before I went into a run/walk interval would be icing on the cake. I also figured starting with 4 high school kids, that I would run most of the time with them. It quickly became apparent that running was going to be tough in this race, here is what the official ColorRun website says…

“Do I need to be some sweet ole’ runner to do this?
Oh my goodness, NO. There are plenty of other great 5ks out there to test speed and performance. This Color Run™ event is all about a color crazy day with friends and family. You can run, walk, crawl, or cartwheel if you wish!”

Running became a case of going around/dodging people (including toddlers, dogs, strollers), even though there were race signs everywhere about walking on the left. Well my high school running partners decided they would rather have fun and even before we made it 1K they were walking. So I left them behind and continued on my weaving through the crowds towards that 1K… then towards the 2K color mark running, until…whoa, who said there would be hills? Between me and 2K color was a HUGE HILL…I have it my best but ended up walking most of it. But at the top I started my run again until I made it to 2K. Feeling good, I decided to push on farther with my run…maybe I could make it to 3K running. Well, almost made it to 3K then from there on out I was walking a running. I would walk until I caught my breath and then would start running again. My wrist Iphone holder was not working out so well, so I was not able to get my interval app going like I wanted and I left the headphones in the car thinking that it would be wiser to run without because of all the people. Lessons learned for my next race. I did manage to get the stopwatch going so I knew what my time was and at the 4K mark…from there on I decided to run as much as I could and hopefully I would reach my goal time. Crossing the finish line, was such a relief and a sense of accomplishment. I finished in :45.16, which basically is a 15 minute mile…which I had sat my goal as. Ann tells me that I probably ran a lot farther than a 5K dodging people and the time I spent getting around them probably made me closer to a 14 minute mile pace. I wove myself around to the drink station and grabbed a granola bar, and then headed to my waiting husband and 2 boys in our meeting spot and waited for the 4 teenagers who apparently had a great time...

walking and rolling around in the color. After the last couple of years we have had at Ab's prior school with mean girl drama...this picture really makes me happy, happy, happy!

This picture on the other hand does not make me happy, well what do I expect to look like after having color thrown at me, sweating, and pushing myself to get over that finish line being very much fluffy?

I certainly hope that the next 5K picture I take will look better! And those TOT pictures...amazing!

Race Reflections:

1. Perfect 1st race: No need to worry about seasoned runners on this course and being dead last. This was not about time to anyone but me and I made the time I wanted too!

2. Calf Compression Sleeves: Worked perfectly, I had no issues with shin splints during the race. Although today, 2 days later, my calves still hurt…which is a sign they did what they were supposed to do…put the stress back on the calves and away from the shins.

3. Need to find a better, Iphone running case that allows me to do more touching through the plastic to set my apps.

4. I can at least do a 5K within the Disney 16 minute time frame needed for the ToT 10-mile. Not sure if I am capable of more (at least not right now).

Where Do I Go Now:

1. Begin Week 1 of Galloway’s Internal Training for a 5K race (8 weeks)-I know I am farther along then week 1, but I like starting points and this will help me build up to the harder weeks so that I am more successful and help me combat the shin splints.

2. Sign up for next 5K to take place in 8 weeks-Found one at 7 weeks locally that I am going to sign up for.

3. Sign up for the ColorRun in my town for June. (A few weeks after we signed up for the one we did out of town, they announced a local ColorRun, grrr).
