OCD Princess Planners: Flights, Frights, Food, & a ToT Race, Too!!!

What a difference 6 days make! Monday I was ready to give this whole thing up in defeat...well today I pushed myself just to see what I was capable of doing. Last month I could barely run 1/8 mile straight without dying. Today after my Curves workout with my body all warmed up I decided to see just how far I could run today without stopping...I was hoping for a 1/2 mile....BUT when I made it to the 1/2 mile, I told myself try to make to 3/4 mile, when I made it to 3/4 well I pushed it to 1 MILE....Yes, I ran 1 entire mile without stopping or slowing down. This may not seem like much to most people, but this is progress and I did in a little over 11minutes. Sure, I am a long way from running 10 miles straight but I made it to 1 mile!

:cool1::cool1::cheer2::cheer2:

That is so awesome! What an amazing feeling, yes? See.... You CAN do this!!!!

Just stick to your training program and come October you will be more than ready!!!

OH...and I just noticed the 11 minute part!!!! :worship: see... who is going to have to try and keep up with whom? I was no where near an 11 minute mile this time last year!!!! Granted...yes it is a mile and you have to maintain that over the distance of say a 10k to get your qualifying time to submit...but just a bit more training and you certainly will!!!

You make me laugh...I was nearly dying when I finished that mile. :lmao: How do you ever build up enough endurance to do that over and over again for 10 miles.

Race Questions:
1. How do you carry your "stuff" while you are running? I was thinking like phone/ipod, those beans of yours, etc.

2. Realistically how much do you run and how much do you walk? Dont base it on last year, cause you did too much walking. But what should I shoot for in distance/time before I walk and then how much walk before running again!

First building that endurance is a slow process. What I love about the couch to programs is that if you follow it it pushes you just past where you are comfy each time. So you run for 11 minute today , but tomorrow if is 13.... And before you know it is 30. I am not convinced that walk run programs do that. I could be wrong.

Next- I carry a water bottle that has a pouch. The bottle is a squeeze bottle that has a wrap around it. My hand slides into it so that I do not need to grip it.(you shouldn't run while clenching your fist- just as you shouldn't squint your eyes. Tension responses like that make your body think it is in a stressful situation and energy will go toward that rather than you run- or something like that. I read about it early on and just remember the rule of wearing sunglasses and not clenching fists.). There are also belts but I am less of a fan. You can go super cheap on these items. I think I spent all of $15 total on my first bottle and belt that I got from Walmart. For Christmas I got some nicer ones though... And I do prefer them. Oh the phone.... There are arm bands that your iPhone can slide into. Mine loads from the top and the ear phones come out the top. I had another one that it loaded upside down and made me nervous. You could put this in a belt... But I like my phone secure.

Using a walk run method is different for everyone. Personally. I don't use it. I run the entire time I am out. It is just to hard on me other wise. I can keep going easier than I can start going again. Rundisney will have a Galloway program that will list intervals for you. I want to say a lot of people use a 60:60 ratio. Starting out, I want to say it has a 15:45 (those are both seconds). The idea is (I think). You work up (only when you are comfortable) from that -15 second to a full minute. I would suspect the process could be taken up to any ratio (5:5 minutes, 20:20 minutes etc). Point is you have to find what works for you. My ONLY recommendation is that you don't become complacent with one set of splits (should you choose a walk run). I think not pushing past to the next "level" causes problems for a lot I people who use this method. By trouble I mean- the training doesn't seem to get them to a place of better endurance. I think the parts of the Galloway method were it if talks of always making sure you are comfortable are taken a bit too literal and causes some to never push past that initial 15 seconds. Course as long as they stay on track and increase their distance as the plan suggests. They should be fine to tackle the race course they just might not have the right pace.

Hope this made sense....

Thanks Ann...

I am just wondering by the time of the race should I be running 10 miles straight? I am not sure that is doable, but maybe as I get farther into training I will see that it is doable.

You talked about in your TR about bag check...what are you talking about? What is a bag check? What do they allow you to carry with you as you run concerning bags?

Hello :)

Tammie mentioned this PTR to me on our Oct '13 FB group as I am going to be running the ToT 10 miler, but will be going solo.

I am new to running and wasnt planning on doing a Run Disney event this year (was planning on Princess 1/2 next year) -- but the ToT 10 miler just caught my eye and I decided I am going to do this race this year.

By the time of the race, I think they say for the 10 miles you should be able to hit 7..8  something like that. If you can hit 10 before, great... but as long as you can get up to 7 or 8, I think you are good.

Basically, at the expo you will be given a bag. This is your "official" bag to check in before the race. In it you will put anything you want for after the race. Anything from a snack to your phone (if you are not running with it) I think some people bring wipes to "clean" themselves as well as a change of clothes...flip flops. Get the idea? In my case for the phm though, Steve will have a bag ready for me. I will not need to go retrieve one from bag check.

As for what they allow you to carry... well, I think basically anything. rundisney frowns upon earphones...but kinda turns their head if you do use them (I know I did and will) The ONLY thing they will not allow is a mask that covers your face. I also think that covering your bib is a no no as well. I doubt they would allow you to drag a suitcase behind you...since strollers are not allowed...but beyond that.... if you can carry it and want to you should have no trouble. I think "utility belts" arm bands...etc are going to be the best bet. I know I did have my water bottle with me and I will again for the phm.

Tammie- I am by no means a runner, but I have done my share of jogging. I can pretty much keep up a 5k in about 33 minutes when I haven't been training, all jogging, no walking. But that's not the point I wanted to make.

One suggestion for you on the walk/run intervals is to try a heart rate monitor. I wore one when I started jogging. Know your top range (85% of max heart rate). Start with 1-2 minutes of walking after stretching for warm-up. Then bust into your jog and go until you hit or exceed that 85% rate. Then walk and watch your monitor. If it drops below your 65% rate, pick up the jog again. If you still have some energy before you get all the way down to 65%, go ahead and pick up the pace again. This creates natural, customized intervals. And the more you exercise, the better cardiovascular condition you're in, the faster your recovery will be, and soon you'll be just jogging/running. Make sense?

Made great sense! Wish I had known this a year ago :)

So glad you found us...we are a little quiet right now in the planning part. We still have not figured out where we were staying. We had a PIN code, but then the TOT was changed and made the PIN no good. :worried: We are waiting till Ann gets a bounce back offer.

Walk (RIDE, RUN, SWIM, just get your hiney moving) to WDW Update

Sorry it has been so long...I have now gone 244.5 miles as of tonight! I have made my way through Wichita Falls and have merged onto the highway to Fort Worth. In 84 miles I will be in Forth Worth! Thinking about when I get there heading start to DFW (Dallas-Fort Worth Airport), hop on a plane and get to WDW faster! :rotfl2:

Looks like I am veering off towards OK...thinking about heading up there and picking up Amy and dragging her with me!

I thought anyone following along might like a training update, since we still do not have any TR plans yet! But we are getting closer and closer to some...

This week I was working on C210K Week 4 here is how my week went:

Monday, Feb 11
Headed out to run...expecting a major snowstorm tomorrow (nothing compared to Heather Belmore-Htun) not sure when I will be able to run again this week! If you told me last year that I would be out running I would have laughed at you...Freaking out...week 4 is hard! I kept hearing Ann push yourself you can do this...on my last 5 min run interval my left calf on the side a pain shot through and my leg gave out...I walked it out and tried to finish but it kept doing the same thing and I decided to hobble to the car! I was so close but now I am scared! Darn weight...

The weather turned yucky with about 6 inches of snow on Tuesday...along with a busy week with the schedule

Saturday, Feb 16
Wahoo...beautiful afternoon for a "run"...2 miles run/walk at a :14.23 mile! C210K wk4/d2 DONE

Sunday, Feb 17
I know you should not run back to back days, but where I live with the wind is not blowing HARD it is a pretty day and looking at the rest of the upcoming week today is perfect high near 60 and little wind. So I took advantage while the 2 oldest were at dance group and Jeff & Goo took off to the gun show. I really pushed myself with Day 3 and told myself if it was to much that I could just walk it out...funny thing is when you get going you end up pushing yourself and I finished 2 miles at almost the same pace as yesterday! WAHOO! I think I will probably stay with week 4 for atleast another run, since Monday was such a bust! I would love to run tomorrow, since we have no school, but I know that I am risking injury if I do...yes, I hear you Ann!

Other thoughts...
I gave up the scale for Lent. I had Ab hid it from me. The silly thing has way too much control over my attitude and feelings...and sets me up for failure whether it is good (then I think I can cheat) and bad (what is the use of watching what I eat, so lets eat). The only time I can weigh myself is my monthly weigh in at curves, which is tomorrow BTW. I am continuing to watch what I eat, although I have had a couple of Valentines cookies this week...MIL makes us these great pecan sandies each year...darn things I wish the kids would get them eaten.

Too funny, Tammie!

I am not so funny in real life, but give me a few moments to think and I can come up with something :rotfl2:

P.S. - How do I look? ;)

So love the ticker! I cant believe Katie is going to be 21!

I gave up the scale for Lent (I also added some positive things too that are not about giving up...posting a positive post on friends facebook pages at random telling them what they mean to me along with trying to get the rosary said each day and turning off the radio in the car and turning on the divine mercy chaplet). I know that seems like a silly thing to give up, but it is amazing how much control a little thing has over your life. But, I have allowedI have been promising numbers forever...finally did an official weigh in at Curves. I have done 6 weeks on the program (Curves, Xyngular Diet, & C210K):

Pounds Lost: 12
Inches Lost: 7.5
Body Weight % Lost: 4.2%
Body Fat Lost: 13.10 lbs (which means I have gained a little over a pound in muscle)

Of course we all want better numbers and I dont seem to lose fast with the 8 day challenge like most people but it is a step in the right direction. My stamina and endurance is coming along...I now can run a solid mile without stopping (6 weeks ago I could barely do 1/8 mile without dying). On my longer runs I am down to 14 1/2 minute mile over 2-3 miles...down over a minute per mile.

:worship: you are doing so well! I am honestly impressed! I also am honestly thinking you will be far more ready for the tot than I was last year.

I understand going for it on a good day like that. Some times you just have to take a day when you can. .. But yeah, don't risk injury to do so. I have been running back to back all week...so sometimes it is ok in training. You just HAVE to listen to your body... Not the whiny part that tries to tell you going out at all is a bad idea... But the one who is trying to work with you to get in shape. (Does that make sense?). In other words- it is one thing when you wake and you are stuff and it is cold out (or hot... It won't be long before it is hot) and your body and mind try to convince you to skip and another when your leg is cramping to the point of buckling ;). That being said - the best best BEST thing that a trainer at the local running store told me was that running is about chasing pain. It makes me not terribly concerned when I have one ache it another. I guess it comes down to knowin your body well enough to tell between an injury or normal "wear and tear".

You and me both! I am trying to find a little something special in a little blue box to get her. It would be her first little blue box. (I have never had one.)

I saw some of your FB posts and thought that was very cool. And those stats are impressive!! Stay off the scale, on your program and drink lots of water and I think the next time you see the scale (April Fools Day?), you'll be super proud of yourself.

Walk (RIDE, RUN, SWIM, just get your hiney moving) to WDW Update

Today marks 278 miles completed! According to the map I have just passed through Fruitland, Texas!

fruitland_zps2e5a63cd.png

fruit2_zps4cfdacbb.jpg

As you can see the landscape is getting a lot hillier than from where I started at on the Great Plains...also a lot greener than home!

Today I ran my farthest distance ever straight without any walking...I made it 1 1/14 miles! Wahoo, but the remaining 3/4 miles was a very slow walk. I have a 5K on March 23 and I am really hoping to be able to run a half of it straight (about 1 1/2 miles). I should be able to reach that goal without a problem, but I dont want to die the other 1/2 either!

LOVE THIS!! Yes, I've finally caught up on our PTR! :cheer2:

For those that are here that I haven't officially met yet, I'm the phantom OCD princess. princess: Who also needs to update her ticker... because I'm pretty sure it's still set to the Sept 25th original date.

My lack of presence... as short as I can possibly make this... my daughter had knee surgery 14 weeks ago and my life got more crazy than the norm. My training completely went by the wayside to take care of her, probably more than she wanted or needed, and I had to let the other princesses know that I may not be able to go and to count me out of the plans with the idea that I might do a 'small town drop in' on them while they were there. :wave2:

However, training has commenced officially, life hasn't slowed down one bit, daughter is still in physical therapy 3x/week, but the chaos has been absorbed and adapted to and I think I can... I think I can... I think I can...
figure out how to get there for TOT weekend! Nothing set in stone yet but it's back on the top of my list to figure out... mainly financially. We have quite a few medical bills to pay off as a result of the surgery. :upsidedow

But I'm going to try to be more involved again and present!! :thumbsup2

Now nobody pass out because I did an update. :p
