OCD Princess Planners: Flights, Frights, Food, & a ToT Race, Too!!!

HappyNewYear-2010.jpg

Happy New Year...sorry to say that I rung it in by sleeping, but I had good reasons to go to bed at 8:30 last night (other than a bad headache). This morning I ran my FIRST EVER 5K...I hate calling it a "run" because according to the tracker my time qualifies as a "brisk Walk"...but needless to say I was at the race course at 8:30 am in 13 degree weather. Brrr, but I was all bundled up in compression running clothes...scarf, ear muffs, 2 layers of socks and gloves along with a fleece jacket. Let's talk a moment about compression running clothes. First, they are expensive...Second, I felt like a sauage in some casing...I am sure I was not a pretty sight squeezed into these clothes...all my rolls and lumps were very apparent (needed the fleece jacket just to cover those things up, and you thought I wore it for the extra layer of warmth). I "run" with a lady who I am friendly with our children attend the same schools and she is starting this running thing too...her boys are incredible runners both making it to the Jr. Olympics last summer. She has decided it is time to get into shape too. We both laughed as we started in the back of the back and passed the gate...our goal was to finish under an hour (my goal was under 48 minutes...TOT Run has a 16 minute min. per mile and I have a little more training under my belt then her...but knew that whatever happened we would stay together, so I might be slower than my goal.) The first half of the course we alternated between "running" and walking...and at the end her son lapped us at his finish......we passed the finish for our 2nd lap and the guys running the timing system promised us they would still be here for us...and cheered us on! We were following an older gentleman how suddenly got way ahead of us when he took a "short cut"...CHEATER. Nearing our last bend, I urged Rhonda to finish strong and we ran in the last 1/8 of a mile...and guess what we finished and I was under the 48 minute mark (:47.53)...thank goodness we ran at the end. It was fun, and totally doable for me. I know next time with more training it will be easier and faster, but it is a start and I have 270 more days to prepare for that 10-mile race!

I joined a facebook group...Walking to Disney, which starts today. So with a 5K that is 3 miles...which according to googlemaps takes me from my front door to the highway! I am Disneybound...only 1457 miles left to go!

That is just so exciting. I really applaud you for running in the cold...that cold! Truth be told I would rather run in 30 degree weather and sunny than 70.... but 13?! That is so crazy!! You are going to be so ready for the ToT! And...now that you have made the pacing goal you know you can only improve upon it! Do you have a 10k in mind that you will run for a time to submit? You can always bring a time, but with what you ran today... I would start accumulating times...submit your best one by the deadline and then if you think you can do better between the deadline and the race, bring it to have your corral placement changed. I know... it seems overwhelming. I know last year when I registered for the ToT and was told I should get a 10k time to submit, my first thought was "wait, now you want me to run a 10k too?!" I am SO glad and thankful that I was encouraged to do so because by the time the race came I was ready for it... but had I not been toward the front of coral c ( there were only A B C and D), I am almost certain I would have been swept. I am hoping that I don't have to worry about it for the phm..but still if I were to run a 10k and do better than the time I submitted I would bring it (we are now past the submission deadline) Anything to keep me further from the sweepers will make for a more enjoyable race. Cause...keep in mind the sweepers start the minute the last person crosses the start line. (poor last person!!! I can't imagine)

Would you mind if I joined that fb group? That sounds like some fun motivation. I really need some. I know I have the phm I am training for, but not doing a race in December kinda has me feeling like I need something.

Congrats on a good job!!!

You are so encouraging...I don't want to worry about sweepers...I want that medal!

I wonder if there is a 10K anywhere close...we did find a 5K to run in March...one of those "COLOR" ones.

I will get you in that FB group...I found it through the DISboards on facebook page!

The Day After...

Oh my, I thought I was in a lot better shape...but I can barely move today! :scared1: But even with that I did go and do my Curves workout this morning and this afternoon did the elliptical for 30 minutes. That gives me 10 more miles towards my goal to walk/run/ride my way to WDW! Which means I have left the city limits and made the merge onto the highway going to the big D, and yes I do mean Dallas! I just passes a friend from church's house and I am waving at them!

Tomorrow Goo goes back to school, while the rest of us have until Monday to get back in the swing of things. Boo will be starting a new school Monday...say a little prayer for him, middle school is hard enough without being the new kid.

I have a middle schooler. Middle school is tough! I will say a little prayer for a smooth transition. Can't believe you ran a 5k, did 30 mins on the elliptical and went to Curves. You are hardcore! That's pretty darn great!! :thumbsup2 I'm only 2 miles from home. Better get in gear!!

I hope I am encouraging. I try to be honest though. Kinda a take the good with the bad. Like... I KNOW you can do this... but be aware that there are sweepers. (if that makes sense) I think anything you can do to perhaps get yourself ahead of them even before the race is good. (no matter how fast of a runner you are) The medal is very cool and if that is what helps to motivate you then you need to keep that in your sights.

Ya know... I looked on active.com for races in your area and I couldn't find ANYTHING! Running USA...again nothing. No one runs where you live?

It gets hot in the summer there, so I would highly recommend shooting for a 10k in late spring. Maybe April/May? I know that July seems to be a popular month for races, but in July I would worry that it would be too hot for you. :scratchin maybe that is why I am not finding races I wish I had a better suggestion. I would just google and look on active. Maybe you could travel a bit to one?

Yay! Another ToT runner/and veteran. I too want to improve upon last years time :goodvibes I also want to get more pictures with characters (I have none from the 2012 race)

Turning 40 wasn't a big deal to me... but somehow just having turned 43 makes me see that 50 will be here soon and THAT scares me. Funny thing is... I am probably in the best shape of my life. My 43 year old self would whoop my 23 year old self easily!!!

Way to go getting more activities in!!! I am very very impressed. :goodvibes

And...on the day after ache. That will get better. I promise. Yesterday, dh said to me "oooh, you are gonna be sore tomorrow" after I got back from my 8 1/2 mile run. He was shocked when I told him that I wouldn't be. I think he almost didn't believe me. I told him that unless I injure myself I really don't' experience that day after pain any more. And... as expected... nope, nada... not sore. Even my hamstring that has been giving me trouble isn't hurting...weird, I just now realized that. Now.. the pain I do get is right after. My bunion was on FIRE after my run. I couldn't wear the shoes I wanted to cause it made it worse. Feet are better today though.:goodvibes

I wonder if what helps to keep me from getting those day after aches is that I use bio freeze after I run and I also after a long run I wear special socks. The socks are amazing for helping to keep the blood flow going right and the bio freeze... ::yes:: you must get some. I hate the smell, but I found some in a bottle with a rollerball (I hate to touch the stuff) and it has a disappearing scent.

Ok...I am just rambling at this point. :rotfl: I need to go to bed

I have been messing with these 3 photos for a long time...finally a layout that I am happy with!

Trust me I know those sweepers are going to be around, I just dont want them around me! That medal is going to be my reward and an symbol of getting back under control and accomplishing something that I never dreamed of doing...until I met you! :rotfl2:

Ya know... I looked on active.com for races in your area and I couldn't find ANYTHING! Running USA...again nothing. No one runs where you live?

You have to think where I live...a city of 180K in the middle of no where...Dallas is 6 hours, Denver is 6 hours, Ok City is 4 hours, Albuquerque is 4 hours...the closest is Lubbock at a little over an hour. There is a very active running club, but most of the races are 5K (about 1 a month)...

I really do not think I will be ready in April/May? I am hoping to do a full out 5K in May without walking. That is my goal. Not worried too much about the heat, there are a lot in the mountains in June/July...but I think the terrain would kill me...I will find one. Denver is a much better option in June/July than Dallas.

I did a good detox bath, so I think that helped...really HOT water with baking soda and epsom salts...for atleast 20 minutes.

I LOVE how that turned out!!!

Thanks...I have been fighting with these pictures for a long time...now I am fighting with Asia pictures. Just can't find the right papers to make it work. :confused3

You gals!! Wow!!!! I wish I could run ONE mile, let alone a 5k!! Turning 40, well, I'm actually looking forward to it, just want to be a whole lot thinner for it. Maybe I can walk a little more in the parks, since it won't be a peak time or anything.

Ann, you and your Lightning fan would LOVE cars land!! I put some pics on my FB page, I think it's in the Christmas 2012 album. That area is JUST like stepping into the movie. It's SOOOO well done!! Kinda glad they're talking about bringing it to Fl, but sad to see the part in DHS go....we LOVE the LMA Stunt show, that's our FAVORITE show. DH was real sad. The backlot tour, eh...that can go. No biggie there. Just want them to hurry up and do what they're gonna do!!! LOL

As far as working out, I had a couple bad days in there, but me and my friend Melanie are joining a "biggest loser" Challenge from our neighborhood here, we're in a huge military housing area, so lots of ladies want in on the challenge. So, kinda taking it easy, but waiting on the weigh in for that. I need to get moving tho....got a LOOOONG way to go!

Ya know... I looked in my area for races, and I think it is just a slow point. A lot of them have not been announced yet (I think) Cause there were really none in my area either. I live in a town with a population of (I think)10k in town with 30 or 40k in the surrounding areas. We sit pretty close to a lot of things...but it is about an hour drive to any "real" town. (like Seattle or Tacoma) I know that Seattle has a pretty huge running community...so there is that draw. I would expect to see some races... so I assume it is the time of year.

I think you mean Tammie... my little one is not the cars fan. I do know what you mean though about the area being like stepping into the movies. We went to DLR in July. AMAZING!!!

OK I have to ask. What's a "sweeper"? I have image of those brooms from Beauty & the Beast (right?) in the plaza just outside the animation section of DHS. Like a whole line of them coming up behind you to sweep you away. Scary!:scared1::scared1::scared1:
