Occupy Wall Street

... It's coming just not sure when its going to break.

Not until people start missing meals, and the government is going to make sure that doesn't happen. In other words, we are fine until the economy collapses sufficiently to disrupt our government's ability to send out checks to placate the populace.

People will not take up arms because they are less successful than they were last year. It takes a lot more than that. The time may come, but we aren't there yet.

The key in this video is the discussion of the Fed. The Federal Reserve. It is the problem here, not the banks themselves.

Is not the Federal Reserve full of banks? Is the Federal Reserve part of the 6 banks that control 60% of the USA's finances?

I ask because I'm curious. I really just don't know enough about it.

People are missing meals, not able to make their mortgage payments, car payments. It's not enough people but the unfortuante part is that its festering right now. Most Americans are upset the ones that aren't are the ones that have money and enough to be happy and put food on the table for themselves and their family.

I feel something has got to give, we are a strong country and like a PP said I fear a Revolution will happen, not like it did the first time but its going to happen.

Some may say "Oh its only $5 a month, but what about that same person who know also has to pay more for the tolls (aka GWB and The Lincoln Tunnel?) so now that is another approx. $80 more each month this person just driving to work has to pay. That is minimal by the way because if they have to go over another bridge then its even more. So each month now they have to pay approx. $85 more dollars just to get to and from work. However, in the past 3/4 years they have not gotten a raise, but the cost of food has gone up, rent, daycare, tolls, gas etc. Which is inflation and it happens normally but if you aren't getting a raise normally what are you supposed to do? IF you work full time and have a family, get another job? You are lucky to have ONE now that also includes benefits.

Many Americans are not getting paid what they are worth but the owners and CEO's just keep pocketing that money and its not trickling down to the rest of us. So what do we do? What is the solution?

If it was actually about that, what will a handful of protestors accomplish? I guess that I dislike those things too but how will this protest help?

It's a confusing mess. :(

It's the start of a revolution. Just because the mainstream media chooses not to report it doesn't mean it's not happening, or that it's just a handful of people. It's not just wall street either. Google occupy America

It actually has been happening in Wisconsin and even New Jersey (Trenton) but no one covers it. It's going to get worse when people start to realize this and then it will become scarey. This is NOT about political sides. This about right and wrong.
Let me tell you, I support them 1000% but what the cops are doing is disgusting and very wrong. They are abusing their power.

I do agree that MM did say it much better on Bill Maher then that interview.

The more unemployment that is going to occur and when the rich keep getting richer and a new year comes and those big ups get those million dollar bonuses and yet still say "Our Company isn't making any money" then you are going to see some crazy stuff happen. Mark my words. You will be coming back to this thread, and I will be saying I told you so. I had hoped this would not happen but I fear that its going to.

The cost of living is going up, yes gas has come down but everything is going up and we that are working and do have jobs for the past few years are not getting any type of raise and are expected to do more. There is going to be a straw that will break the middle classes back. It's coming just not sure when its going to break.

Of course it is about political sides. I am guessing from your quote that you believe the political side you have chosen is right and that the other side is wrong. The entire protest is based on the advancement of a particular political point of view and method of resolution. There is no way to properly discuss this issue without making it political.

Both sides are wrong right now and our country needs to be fixed in many areas. It is both sides that are not happy with what is going on in this country but no one is stepping up to try and fix it or even give a solution that can be achieved. It wont' be fixed overnight but a solution has to happen.

So now we as Americans are taking it into our own hands.....that is what concerns me.

Yep - the general idea is that you only arrest enough to keep things under control. And you aren't arresting them with an intent to send them off to prison - most of them will make bail and never see the inside of a jail cell again after paying a fine.

The police are not trying to hurt people. They are trying to protect people.

Frankly a strip search and night with the real criminals is what most of these bleeding heart protesters need... let them think twice about wasting peoples time with such stupid protests.

Isn't there a "Let's beat dogs" or "Let's drown kittens" forum that's missing you about now? Other than your rants we are having a very civilized, informative discussion.

Ladies and gentlemen, let's please continue our conversation, I'm finding very interesting. Join me in putting thomas on ignore.

The entire purpose of this thread is to further your political point of view. I guess dissenters are not permitted.

While I agree that many(most) are not happy, the solution this movement seeks is propagated by Michael Moore, Cornel West and Noam Chomsky. Sorry, but they espouse a particular political point of view. Furthering the cause of this organization is political.

Dissenters are certainly permitted, I just don't think we need to have someone continually talk about physical assaults on the protesters. I don't care if you don't agree, please, share. Just don't pretend you are adding to the conversation by talking about how you wish to see the protesters harmed. That's not informative. It's just violent.

PS: My view of it isn't political. My view is to gain knowledge as to what people think is going on. I don't really care who is on what side. I've never been "brand specific" in my voting. I just know when I think something sucks or not. :)

There have been a number of dissenters (including myself, I guess, sort of, torn I guess I am) but it was done without snark.

Getting back on topic. I previously mentioned actions having consequences. Capping interest rates would probably have a consequence of annual fees (which some cards are all ready going back to) and stricter credit guidelines.

What we need is moderation of all things, which we do not have AT ALL. It seems our politicians (on both sides) believe in all or nothing approaches. No one wins with that thinking.

So there's no cap on interest, yet some cards are STILL choosing to charge fees. So then, what would the difference be to just cap the interest? Sooner or later all or most cards will start charging the fees anyway right? Isn't $20 a year for a card cheaper than, say 25% interest on $10,000 ?

I had been talking about this type of situation with friends a long time ago. Like several years and I said, the time for Americans to worry is when people start to UNREST. Even though it is a very small group that is what is happening right now.

I don't know about that. I noticed 10 years ago that the current climate was one of boiling frogs (or lobsters or crabs, take your pick). There's an old saw that is true: if you put a frog in a pot of water and take your time, gradually increasing the temperature, letting things sit if the frog shows any discomfort, you can eventually boil the frog alive and it won't ever protest because it will get used to the heat.

That's what's been going on in the USA for a very long time. And everytime someone feels discomfort there are people there to tell them what to feel.

I'm currently reading a book about how the mortgage crisis evolved (written by a real shifty character - his creds are that he's a WSJ report. :rotfl:), and it is truly sickening reading about the greed at the top and the dishonesty and the outright fraud that funded and channelled it and created the whole mess. But ask the posters on these boards and they'll blame the people who took out the mortgages. Look at the talking heads on TV. They blame consumers. The truth is that the mess was a huge con game run by some people who, guess what? Have gotten to keep all the money they made by buying politicians, committing fraud and running con schemes.

I don't think there will be a revolution; I think there won't be a middle class and the vultures (or their descendents) who made so much money from this nation will fly off to some other country, stuffed to the gills with our prosperity. They have not one whit of concern for this nation except when they need to wrap themselves in the flag to convince us to do something that is in their best interest and not in the interest of our nation as a whole.

Well the ones charging fees are reward cards, so get rid of the rewards. Seriously though, I don't have the answers. It appears no one does. And if anyone acts like they do, I think we should be wary of them.

I was looking forward to watching Inside Job this weekend (and getting good and angry) but Blockbuster sent us a wonky DVD. I think the corporations and banks are in cahoots! Oh wait...;)

Why should they be strip searched and locked up? The constitution gives us the right to assemble and protest. A's a matter of fact, it's one of our basic rights that the country was founded on.

I do think there is a lot of truth to your post. but I also think what Mickeyistheman is accurate. Historically, the frog eventually realizes he's being boiled.

Interestingly, my DD15 just had to write an essay on the Protestant Reformation. She stressed that it wasn't just about religion, but was also social, political and economic in nature. She made a comparison between the invention of the printing press and the effects it had, not unlike what we have now with the corporate and political controlled media and the effects of the internet and social media. How the printing press allowed everyday people to understand that they were being taken advantage of by the greed of the church and politicians.

Btw. . .she got a 10/10. Her teacher wrote "Excellent insight. I see that we are going to get along very well." in the margin. :thumbsup2

I do think that eventually this is all going to come to a head with some type of revolution. I base that on historical perspective. It's usually how these things work out. . .and I think it's getting close.
